Critic Questions FG's Preference For French Tax Experts Over Local Firms (Video) by Summyoat(op): 10:14am On Dec 22, 2025
A public commentator identified as Bro. Darlington has criticized the Nigerian government over its decision to engage foreign tax consultants, questioning why local expertise was overlooked.
He argued that Nigeria has numerous qualified tax professionals capable of handling revenue-related reforms, asking why France was chosen instead. According to him, bringing in foreign consultants raises concerns about the exposure of sensitive national information under the guise of tax administration.
Bro. Darlington also cited Remita as an example of a successful indigenous solution, noting that the platform performed effectively from the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan through the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari. He questioned why such local systems are now being sidelined, suggesting that personal interests and foreign ties may be influencing policy decisions.

Nothing good ever comes from France's involvement in West African politics

History has proved this.

Just the same way he awarded a so called “bidding” contract to Hi tec owned by his Lebanese friend and ally. So is what he did with the tax laws.

We all should brace up for high inflation next year. Nothing concern the average trader with tax as he will always add to his profit to pay whatever tax. Danfo and taxi driver will charge his passengers depending on what obtains.

He's an owned man. Cozzying up to France at a time when our francophone neighbours are pivoting away from them is shocking. We know the only advantage France offers to their puppets is tenure elongation. We've seen it with Allasane Ouatarra, Talon, Paul Biya, etc. Nigeria had a foreign policy of strategic non-alignment until Tinubu happened.

Here is a breakdown of the primary benefits UK citizens receive from their tax contributions (Income Tax, National Insurance, and VAT).
1. Healthcare (The NHS)
The most direct benefit is the National Health Service. Unlike many other countries, your taxes ensure that:
Emergency Care: A&E visits and ambulance services are free at the point of use.
Hospital Treatment: Surgeries, cancer treatments, and overnight stays are covered.
GP Services: Consultations with your local doctor don't cost a penny.
2. Social Security and Pensions
A huge portion of tax revenue (specifically National Insurance) goes toward the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide a safety net:
State Pension: Regular payments once you reach retirement age.
Unemployment Support: Benefits like Universal Credit if you lose your job.
Disability Support: Payments like Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for those with long-term health conditions.
3. Education and Childcare
Taxes fund the development of the next generation:
State Schools: Free primary and secondary education for all children.
Higher Education: While students pay tuition, the government provides the massive up-front loans required to attend university.
Childcare: Schemes like "30 hours free childcare" for working parents of toddlers.
4. Public Safety and Infrastructure
Your taxes pay for the "unseen" systems that keep the country running:
Emergency Services: Funding for the Police, Fire Brigade, and Coastguard.
Infrastructure: Building and maintaining motorways, A-roads, and bridges.
The Environment: Funding for the Environment Agency (flood defenses) and waste management.
Defense: Funding the British Army, Royal Navy, and RAF to ensure national security.
5. Local Community Services
If you pay Council Tax specifically, that money stays local to fund:
Bin Collections: Weekly or fortnightly waste and recycling services.
Street Lighting & Maintenance: Keeping pavements safe and fixing potholes.
Libraries and Parks: Public spaces that are free for everyone to use.
Where does £1 of your tax go?
To give you a sense of scale, for every £1 spent by the government (based on recent Treasury data):
~25p goes to Social Protection (pensions and benefits).
~20p goes to Health (the NHS).
~10p goes to Education.
~10p goes to Interest on National Debt.
The rest is split between defense, transport, and general public services.
Would you like me to find out how much of your specific salary goes toward these different services using a tax calculator?

This is what we should be protesting about.

Have this government ever listed the benefits of this new tax regime to the average Nigerian? Or just collecting the tax, and probably looting it, what do we gainhuh
We are quick to emulate (from western countries) collection of the money, but not what the collected money is being used for!

Well, he can start by refunding the 5 billion naira budget they received for the assignment. He seems to be the only person on the so-called "Team". Where are the other members and how diversified was this team? Is it just another Lagos boy arrangement?

I think China should exempted from there, the Chinese bring their money to invest in infrastructure, factories etc employing thousands of Nigerians. The Chinese will provide finding, get their companies to build the road, railway, port etc using theirs and local manpower, at the end of the day you see the infrastructure the loan was taken from them for. The west Eg France will provide loans through Eg world Bank, Paris club etc, the loan is handed over to government officials who are then encouraged to steal the money and hide it back in western banks. France gets back it's money meanwhile Nigerians are left to pay for loans for infrastructure not built.

Probably a very confused, and selfish guy that sidelines others.
Anyway, he's retiring the billions; such major tax review isn't supposed to be rushed. Take enough time, invite businesses, individuals, civil societies, e.t.c to have inputs and conclude on certain things to avoid backlash like what we are seeing currently.
I ask again, why the rushhuh

Tinubu sold Nigeria for a piece of french support as France is losing global relevance and fastly losing its hold on french west Africa.

Tinubu is going down as Nigeria's worst President of all time

wicked souls will emulate UK tax reforms but will never emulate UK tax benefits. These are the things Nigeria govt should provide for taxing life out of it citizens but you won't smell even govt federal schools are not affordable for an everage man here. Light water, electric, education, Heath I pay for all even roads I pay tf and Police still collect for standing on the roads. What exactly does this govt offer for collecting multiple taxes from us?

However, if the agreement is meant as a way to ingraine an effective tax system into our system and then transfer back to nigeria after a period of training of our Tax officials, then it is a great idea.

I am particularly concerned that we don't enter into an agreement that would cost us being sued and have to pay damages just to get out of it.
Re: Critic Questions FG's Preference For French Tax Experts Over Local Firms (Video) by jchioma:
My concern isn’t even so much as giving such sensitive data of Nigerians to the hands and control of foreigners, but the ominous silence of those who were shouting sovereignty all over the place when America wanted to assist us in the fight against terrorists. This is complete sell off. Worse hit are the citizens whose information can even be traded off by France to other friendly countries.

Is there no French speaking countries in Africa?

Is there any time the President is not in France? His preferred place for medical care. I'm not surprised. Exposing Nigeria to exploitation. Unpatriotic lot.
