Using water instead of coolant makes the engine rusts quicker
Another one is change single cell radiator to double cells

Your engine will now struggle to hit optimal temperature even after driving for 30mins

Which coolant would u guys recommend? Cuz most coolants I see look like colorings added to water.

The last time, my vehicle shown up a warning that I should consider changing my oil which I did immediately with same oil number indicate on my engine cover, I was shocked to see the price tag for 72k plus oil filter anyway.

So, I don't think I have to bother myself about the oil since my car will alert me when it's due for changing

Same lies that kazeem sold to you

Your vehicle engine isn't an air cooling system

Without thermostat, your vehicle fails to maintain optimal temperature for effective performance

Waiting for your dashboard to show oil deficiency before you act is not good for the car.

Wrong.

Every car produced from the year 2000 to date does not need to warm up before u can drive out.
EXPERIENCE REMAIN TEACHER , TO THE LECTURERS, YOU HAVE TO WARM YOUR CAR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES MINIMUM, BUT WE THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD IGNORE THE IMPORTANCE OF WARMING YOUR CAR IN THE MORNING,

Fantastic write up but:
Changing oil at least once in a month is not totally true, after every service, the engine is supposed to cover some dance before changing the Oil, it can cover it before 1 month or even at 3 months. I usually change mine every 6 months. I use Hardless Gold.
Also the fallacy that if you're using mobile, you can never change to Total or Ondo is a big fat lie just the oil grading is what you need to consider. If you want to argue this, why don't you start buying oil from the USA after importing your car from the USA?
Where did he write that you should change oil at least once in a month?

You guys should try and pay attention to details when reading

I do oil change every 3 months or 5000km but tilumbu has made me push it to 7 or 8000km

My car has over 300,000km in its odometer reading and it's still going strong

Most proper mechanics will require the thermostat installed back in the car or they wount touch it.
Once the thermostat is removed and the fan is made parmanent, it means the car does not get to the manufacturers set temperature for optimal performance. Eg the manufacturer says your engine should be ran at 37c, you are then running it at 20c, thermostat that should be closed to stop flow of water to inclease temperature and open to reduce is removed, so the vehicle cannot regulate its self. Omo, engine will fail well before time.
Infact when one mechanic removed my thermostat it brought out check engine warning, I scanned an caught him, had to give him money to go buy another and install in my presence.
Never remove thermostat or make your fans run permanent.
The question is that, why are they fond of removing people's car thermostat? Why?

What is the point of changing Oil, when the engine is already operating on Oil Shortage mode... ?

You just have to top up the Oil on a daily basis with fresh oil.

All the long distance transport company drivers do warm their buses before embarking on their journey even with new buses as recommended by the company's mechanic.
The question you should ask is why they do that.

Change your car engine oil at every 5,000 kilometres covered, this I have been maintaining for the past 13 years on the same car, but the issue is that nowadays it takes me 3 years to get to 5,000 kilometres, and it's been 2 years I last changed my car engine oil
Did u just say 2 years? Some of you are unbelievable.

Even as extremely handy as chatGPT is to clarify very simple issues, some of you will still play ostrich in the sand.

So because uve not gotten to 5,000km, you wouldn't change your oil right? So whether you ride 5,000km or not, you don't know oil degrades with time?

Anyway, the mechanics I'm referring to are not road side or agbero mechanics. I once worked with a transport company and the company also assemble the buses they use in the business. And the chief mechanic is not a Nigerian. Anyway, I'm not disputing your opinion but only expressing my thoughts based on what I observed.
Guy,just read it up pls.

Or read ur car manual and don't allow any mechanic to deceive u.

End of talk.

Sincere question here - do you think modern engines still need the warm up?
I thought that was an issue with older cars
Every car that has an internal combustion engine needs to warm up so as to give time for the engine oil to start circulating

This thing is very common with Lagos mechanics. Na why I Dey give my bus driver guy my car to go help me fix anytime I want to do something on it. He’s well known and those mechanics won’t try shit with him.

This is 100% correct.
Once the oil quality is checked regularly and replaced as specified by the manufacturer, the reliability of the engine performance is👌.
Is it oil quality or the level of oil in the engine?

I saw some pple saying cars produced from yr 2000 to date doesn't need worm up b4 driving especially old engine from Night till morning. Every car with any model engine deserved to be worm up for at least 4-5minutes especially in the morning b4 driving bcus the engine has taken over 8 hours to cool so as the engine oil so when you start the engine small, it stimulates the engine oil to go round the engine and ensure some level of lubrication and its make your engine move well b4 you will start accelerating at higher speed. These engines are just like human beings; sm1 just woke you up and start running immediately?

Very dangerous. My car once knocked engine because I failed to check oil level after driving from Lagos to East and almost back.

Mind you, I serviced the car a day before the trip
Re: How Nigerian Drivers Destroy Their Car Engines Without Knowing It by AngelSlay: 3:58pm On Dec 22, 2025
Just as engine oil lubricates, cools, and protects car parts, blood carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and removes waste in the human body. When everything is clean and circulating well, the system runs smoothly.
Here’s the parallel:
Old or low engine oil = poor blood quality or dehydration
When oil is dirty or low, engine parts grind and overheat.
When blood is unhealthy (from poor diet, dehydration, or illness), organs work harder and get damaged over time.
Skipping oil changes = skipping health checkups
Many people wait until they feel pain or collapse before seeing a doctor—just like drivers waiting for strange engine noises. By then, damage has already started.
Wrong oil type = wrong lifestyle choices
Using the wrong oil harms an engine slowly.
Poor diet, lack of sleep, smoking, or inactivity slowly harm the body—even if you feel “fine” at first.
Reduced fuel efficiency = low energy levels
A neglected engine burns more fuel.
An unhealthy body feels tired, weak, and performs poorly at school, work, or sports.
Engine failure = chronic disease
Ignoring small issues can lead to total engine failure.
Ignoring health habits can lead to serious conditions that are expensive, painful, and hard to reverse.
The lesson
Small, regular maintenance prevents big problems.
For cars:
Regular oil checks and changes
For humans:
Regular meals, clean water, exercise, sleep, and medical checkups
Just like drivers who maintain their cars save money and avoid breakdowns, people who take care of their bodies early avoid serious health problems later.

Have you been to the Middle East before, where the temperature is almost double that of Nigeria?
Do you think they remove thermostats from their cars there?

Dumping any engine oil inside the engine!

They will buy anything that KAZEEM recommends, and to top it up, they just buy from any where without concern. Some think they buying Mobil 1 but don’t even know they are buying oil blended in Aba.

Another one is using water for coolant 🤣🤣🤣

Normal now...
This should be the Basics of car usage knowledge, but trust me; many car owners in Nigeria don't check their oils especially the ladies.

Women own na to use and dump anytime the car develops fault...even if it's on the highway; they'll call their husband, bf, or brother to come and carry the faulty car.
How is this relevant to the topic under discussion now

Funny, just met a woman and her daughter with low oil level and a warning dash light.

She called her usual mechanic who recommended mobil 5W50. Meanwhile, her car, a 4-cylinder Honda CR-V, uses 5W20, as the SAE number indicates on the oil cap.

I told her to quickly return it and get at least 0W30 or 5W30 instead since the 20 viscosity is not easy to find.

So we helped her top it a bit, and suggested she goes for full oil and filter change with the 30 if she can't get the 20.

I asked how often she serviced the car and she said every month as recommended by her shady mechanic, despite barely adding 170 miles in 30 days cumulative commute.

That's how she was wasting money as well as killing her car with thick viscosity oil because of a shady mechanic.

If only people would read more about their vehicles...

The first start of the day, always allows the RMP to drop to 1 or a bit lower than 1..... that's allow the car to warm up before driving.
I have made it an habit to wait 2mins before engaging the gear. I have been consistent with it.

Whether the style is for older vehicles or not, is not less of my concern.
