FG Approves Mandatory Drug Test For Public Service Applicants by postie(op): 12:40am On Dec 23, 2025
The Federal Government has approved the introduction of mandatory pre-employment drug testing for prospective applicants into the Public Service.

A statement on Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, said the approval is part of efforts to address the growing problem of illicit drug use and its impact on national development and security.

He said Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments and Parastatals have been directed to make drug testing a core requirement in the recruitment of new personnel.

The statement partly read, “The Federal Government has approved the introduction of mandatory pre-employment drug testing as a requirement for prospective applicants into the Public Service, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the rising menace of illicit drug use and its attendant consequences on national development and security.

“Consequently, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments/Parastatals are hereby directed to include mandatory drug testing as a core requirement in the recruitment of new personnel.”

Imohiosen added that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies have also been directed to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in conducting the tests in line with established standards and procedures.

“The directive, which was contained in a service-wide circular from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, including extra-ministerial departments, is in line with the determination of the present administration to decisively tackle the menace of drug and substance abuse and insulate the national workforce from unwholesome practices,” he said.

He noted that the policy was informed by concerns over the rising rate of drug and substance abuse, particularly among youths.

“The directive on the introduction of mandatory pre-employment drug testing for prospective applicants is premised on the concern raised by the Federal Government over the alarming rate of drug and substance abuse, especially among the teeming youth in the country, with far-reaching implications for public health, socio-economic development, workplace productivity, and national security,” the statement added.

This initiative builds on a series of anti-drug measures introduced in 2025.

In November, the Nigeria Customs Service mandated drug testing for all incoming recruits and serving officers to enhance discipline and border security.

Additionally, a July directive approved university-wide drug screening, signaling a nationwide push to address substance abuse.

Re: FG Approves Mandatory Drug Test For Public Service Applicants by wizelink: 2:48am On Dec 23, 2025
The head (leaders and politicians) and its tributaries (his or her children and relatives) must be certified free before venturing into testing the masses.

Laws are not made for the poor masses alone but for all in a given country.

Before now, it was poor men children that lived in slums that experimented with drugs that were mostly cannabis.
But right now, it is the children of the Elites that live in estates that are most addicted.
And they are experimenting with hard drugs like cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, Canadian loud, Colorado, etc.
That doesn't mean that poor men children are not involved though.
Drug addiction hijacks the mind and destroys the body.

Why is Tinubu so desperate to raise money from overtaxed Nigerians who are struggling to cope with hiked petrol price due to subsidy removal that gave him $84 billion in savings?

Instead of making life easier for us by crashing petrol price and dollar rate as promised, why is Tinubu making life worse than even his cluelessly expired and corrupt Buhari made it huh

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.

NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

This has always been the irony of the ayédèrú APC leader looter who smuggled himself into Aso Rock to continue the disastrous socioeconomic crisis that his expired Buhari started in 2015.

The funniest thing about this is that many applicants who abuse drugs will still scale through, either through weak enforcement, arranged medical fitness certificates from government hospitals, or the very usual nepotism that the public service currently reeks of.

Re: FG Approves Mandatory Drug Test For Public Service Applicants by bunmioguns(m): 5:48am On Dec 23, 2025
Mandatory drug test for common applicants, but 'Mandatory Psychiatric Test' for the politicians and lawmakers is missing? If they test the people in the National Assembly and the Villa, the machine will explode. You want to test a boy who hasn't eaten in two days for 'substance abuse' when the people making the laws are high on power and diverted funds. This is just another way to disqualify the children of the poor so they can slot in their own candidates. Absolute rubbish.
Re: FG Approves Mandatory Drug Test For Public Service Applicants by Salewa97: 5:58am On Dec 23, 2025
Good initiative.

Those who are into drugs shouldn't be part of those who are going to be making policies for the country
