Military arrest policemen on VIP escort duty in violation of President Tinubu’s directive

The military has arrested four police officers for allegedly providing unauthorised escort services to a VIP in contravention of the presidential directive on the withdrawal of policemen from VIP protection duties.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest occurred on Dec. 17 at about 9:30 a.m., while the officers were reportedly on escort duty.

Those arrested were identified as ASP Musa Waziri and Insp. Jeremiah Achimogu both attached to 45 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Abuja; Insp. Awipi Terry of 21 PMF; and Insp. Hassan Baba of 50 PMF, Abuja.

According to security sources, the officers were arrested by military personnel after allegedly flouting the presidential order withdrawing police personnel from VIP escort duties.

The sources further disclosed that the policemen were dressed in uniforms similar to that of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), allegedly in an attempt to evade detection and deceive enforcement personnel.

The arrested officers have since been detained, while disciplinary procedures have been initiated against them in line with extant regulations.

The Federal Government had earlier directed the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from unauthorised VIP protection duties to redeploy manpower to core policing and internal security operations across the country.

Tinubu, I salute you. All past Presidents even the unchallengeable military Heads of State could not stop Police from escorting VIPs, but Tinubu has done it. Same way he stopped the generational fraudulent Fuel and FOREX subsidies that all past leaders could not stop over about 50 years, Tinubu stoped them in the first 30 minutes of his administration.

Now he has promised the international community that State Police will be established, even if it means arm twisting the National Assembly to pass the State Police Laws, Tinubu will do it.

This is better, let the rules be obeyed

That, however, is not the primary responsibility of the military.

That said, I do not subscribe to the rather simplistic argument that the military must remain perpetually concentrated in the North because of the insurgency. The armed forces have multiple roles to perform within the society, and the challenge in the North is not fundamentally one of personnel strength.

Unless, of course, the argument is that all military personnel should be redeployed to the North, which would be utterly absurd. Nearly all the military personnel you see in towns today have served in those troubled areas at one time or another. They were merely rotated out to allow other officers and men to take their turn.

Mr President should pls review this directive in that it should be selective as there are levels to being a VIP, in Nigeria.

The police don’t listen to anyone . They believe they are god and can’t be controlled especially when they are inspector and on higher ranks.

Every security oufit has the right to detain you when caught in abnormal acts. Let me don't call it arrest, but the intent is to hold dem down in a confined space for interrogation or investigation later.
