These guys are confused and will continue to be.

Just because they are after peoples money, see how they are dragging themselves here and there.

Oyedele will come tomorrow and say another thing, another day, another person will counter him and say another thing creating more confusion.

Those who claimed to understand these people all because of hate for another...might be thinking they have sense only to find out that they have no sense for believing their staggered and incomplete information.

Just imagine,I went to Access bank at Wuse 2, Abuja to link my TIN to my acct, the bank said they were not aware and I was shocked. The lady I met pleaded and asked me to wait let her confirm from the branch manager and she also told me that her oga said, that there is no directive to do so.

The whole thing now looks bogus, like a fictions films.
Has there been anything that doesn't cause confusion in this corntree?

Una funny shaa. Na today Nigerians begin pay tax? The only people who are captured in this tax now are remote workers, content creators, hookups, etc. Before now, these people werent captured. But they have been paying other type of tax such as VAT, bank charges, import duties, etc.
Nigeria never worked with all the resources we have, it will still not work now. Nigeria's problem is looting. baba, people dey loot this country die and it wont stop until electoral system is fixed. Now, if electoral system is fixed, people can win election based on their strong campaign, so the politicians will be scared of masses and not scared of fellow politicians. For now, politicians are scared of other politcians who have capacity to influence election via rigging. That is why people who store can migrate to the ruling party and they wont be tried in court. So they can bring votes for the ruling party. So, baba, naija no fit better, forget it.
My guy don lose the remaining hope he has left for hin corntree 😂

I said same thing, there are different types of taxes. What many nIgerians werent paying was income tax. And the reason was because many Nigerians dont have jobs. Yes, many nigerians are self employed and struggling. So, income tax from such sector wasnt really coming in but those working in companies, govt establishments alreayd have their income tax deducted. While most Nigerians pay other type of taxes such as VAT, bank charges go to govt as well, import duties, etc. Most Nigerians already pay that.
As for hookup, ur tax man said it doesnt matter what u do, u will be taxed, he even used hookup as example. So, that is it.

Now, my concern, Nigeria suffers from massive poor job sector, which means most Nigerians have to struggle to find something to do. In such a country, how dare u take up to 25 percent of such struggle? Like we need to be having sense.
Should I really explain the reality of Nigeria today?
Look, calling those who earn 800k yearly poor is wicked. Those people are not living, they are dead. They are worse than poor. What u should tag poor today is 15m yearly. Yes, a person on such income with family is poor.
Here is the reality, Nigerians provide everything for them selves. There is nothing govt provide here.
Let say I made 20m last year from remote works, and in my family house, my people need light. So, let say I spend 4m on electricity, fueling, generator repair and I didnt pay income tax but have been paying other taxes such as VAT, importation duties, bank charges, etc. Now, govt comes and add income tax which will be around 4m plus. Now, my 20m purchasing power has decreased to 16m. But my electricity problem did not decrease. I will still sort out the electricity which cost me 4m last year. Can u see how govt reduced my purchasing power?
Now, let say becus of bad roads, I spend about 1.5m yearly to maintain car, what happens to that?
Now, becus most Nigerians are poor so u surely will have dependencies such as parents, siblings, friends who once in a while need ur help.
I still spend heavily on bottle water yearly, if govt had provided water, this would have been sorted out. So, govt cut down on my purchasing power without resolving any core social issues for me. So, who will fix those problems I cant fix now as my income has dropped?
Omo, we are so funny in this country.
In a country with high rate of unemployment, encourage people to make money and increase purchasing power and reduce income tax. With increase purchasing power, u can have VAT at 10 percent, govt will still make good money and govt should ensure the VAT money is utlized properly to fix social issues and gradually introduce income tax at lower rate until the country is developed with structured institutions. What govt needed to tackle now is cut down in running cost, block corruption, fix electoral system so that people orietated candidates win, make corruption unattractive at all cost. taxing already poor country to this tone of 25 percent is madness.
One of the reasons foreign clients work with Nigerians is cheap labour. So, if u are now taxing me like developed worlds, how do I charge my clients cheaper? Dman!

They just want to enforce this thing by hook or by crook, the main target from what I feel is the automatic deduction from everybody's account once you hit the taxable thresholds, they don't care again about the TIN or account registration, they know Nigerians will try and reject so instead just enforce deductions through the banks from the CBN governor, all they want is that money.
That would be criminal. You can't just enforce an unexplainable deduction like that. If you're being taxed there would have been a direct deduction from your income report or source.

I had to read this your post twice. What comes to mind is why are there no protests or call to recall those Legislatooters?
It is quite unfortunate that Nigerians would suffer this

This your post should be an eye opener.
I’d suggest you create this as a topic here on Nairaland, let Seun, mynd44, lalastilala move it to front page. 25% tax is too much

This is what chronic tribalism and ethnic sentiments and nepotism can cause

No protest because the man is from majority ethnic group, so because their brother brother is in power they won't protest.

They have been blinded by tribalism.

Yes Banks always follow the directive from their number 1 Regulator CBN. So until they receive such directive through a Circular, no Bank will link TIN to any Account holder except the cooperate Holders.

I'm just confirming that Tinubu and his economy teams are thief and a big mistake that must be corrected in 2027...You can't tax people who don't do anything.
You are getting it wrong, governments globally tax income. If you are not doing anything or jobless, and not receiving anything you wont be taxed. Any transfer or transaction that shows from its origin that is a form of income will be taxed . Taxes from income is normal. And even these new tax laws the rich pay more that the poor . Any political elite or business man against these tax laws are not speaking for the masses but their personal interests .

Re: NIN, CAC Numbers To Serve As Tax IDs From 2026 — FIRS by xliente:
Its interesting the efficiency and extra length the government is willing to go to just to ensure that every citizen or business is being taxed and no one escapes or is being bypassed. They basically want to tax every bank account number and also want to mandate the banks to deduct the tax directly from there.

It is high time we all wake up from sleep in this country. Now that it has clearly been confirmed by the government (FIRS) that online capturing of personal data and collection of tax through the banking system without anyone needing to step foot at the bank or tax office is a very real possibility, this same system also needs to be adopted in conduct of future elections whether it be presdential, governorship or others as well with the very same efficiency and accountability required for tax collection. As a bank account holder, one does not need to set foot at the polling station to cast votes anymore, meaning that the voters card and the entire voters' accreditation process can also be bypassed in order to cast votes. It can also simply be done through USSD mobile banking, Internet banking, mobile app banking and so on. If our bank account numbers can be used to deduct tax directly, then they should also be equally used to cast our votes electronically during elections.

This will go a long way to prevent voter intimidation at the polling units, vote buying, election malpractice and so many evils associated with election in this country.
