Airplane lands itself after in-flight emergency, in a first for aviation automation

An airplane has, for the first time, automatically landed itself after an in-flight emergency, according to the system’s manufacturer.

Two people emerged unscathed from the Beechcraft Super King Air 200 after it stopped on the runway at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport near Denver, according to video posted by emergency responders.

The twin-engine turboprop landed under the control of Garmin’s Autoland system, which the company says is now installed on about 1,700 airplanes. “This was the first use of Autoland from start-to-finish in an actual emergency,” Garmin said in a statement.

From self-drive cars to a plane performing auto-landing.

We are indeed at the frontier of the next-level technology.

airplanes have had autopilot and autoland systems for decades. Commercial airliners routinely use them to land in low-visibility conditions (Category III autoland)

That's a beechcraft kingair 200. A beautiful turboprop plane.
A beauty to behold
The autoland feature on that plane is an addon, doesn't come with the plane from factory.

Not in emergencies. Plus this said airport isn't a CATIII airport so yeah, the feature comes in handy.

While these people are already at the point of moving to another level,
we are here talking,
Stable electricity,
Kidnapping,
Religion,
Hammer,
3 square meal,
election rigging

Africa is just terribly behind.

I heard someone in Ghana is building an Ark,that the world will perish in flood, starting today, 25th December?

Sad

True. Well spoken. What makes this Garmin Autoland event a "first" and fundamentally different is the context an in-flight emergency

The feature has been around for a while but it's the first time it's been used for real-time emergency making it a first case.

I hope Garmin learns from Waymo's recent incident to avoid any such blackouts in the aviation industry!

Well this helps, but still not quite there.
The next challenge for auto landing will be incidents involving aircraft systems failures. The degree to which a compromised aircraft can safely make it down.

They say the time of Abraham when the Zigirat was built in Iraq, then called Babylon was significantly more hitech than anything the world is doing now.

I seen pictures of stone quarry in china from ancient times where they are slicing up entire mountain like person cut loaf of bread

There is youtube video titled Ancient Spaceport , where you see ancient airport with petrified airplanes that look and even better than all the plane you see flying to today cause they are vertical takeoff planes dont need runway, they sit on circular platform.

always very very important for young people to know there is absolutely nothing new under the sun, and many would say including the sun and moon, cause they are said to be man made too, its not so hard to believe sun and moon are man made when you can see orions belt stars up in the sky made up of 3 stars in perfectly spaced straight line

The foreigners abroad doing great things.. developing and innovating new things inorder for their people to have a better life...while here in Nigeria politicians focusing on 2027 and fighting each other for 2027 election ..it's a pity

The reason why the west keep making inventions and innovations is simple, whenever they meet it is for progress but when we meet, it is for ethnic, religious and social rilvary, this is usually the height of backwardness.

Nice one! The current design & technology of airplanes are almost a century old. We are now due for a radical paradigm shift in aviation technology.
