PDP Condemns Tinubu Govt’s 'Poor Communication' On US Strikes In Nigeria, Says Trump Broke News First

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its handling of public communication regarding the United States’ military strikes against terrorists in northwest Nigeria.

The opposition party called on the government to adopt a more proactive and transparent approach to addressing sensitive security matters.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, President Donald Trump said the U.S. carried out what he described as “numerous precise strikes” against terrorists in northwest Nigeria, claiming they were responsible for killing Christians.

Trump said the operation was conducted under his authority as Commander-in-Chief and targeted ISIS-linked fighters operating in parts of Nigeria that have suffered years of violence and insecurity.

According to Trump, the militants had been “viciously killing, primarily innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries.” He added that he had previously warned the groups to stop the killings or face consequences.

The Nigerian government later confirmed, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, that strikes had occurred in parts of northern Nigeria.

However, authorities did not provide details on the nature of the operation or the extent of Nigeria’s involvement.

In a press statement issued on Friday, December 26, 2025, by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Nigerians first learned about the reported American strike through verified social media accounts of former U.S. President Donald Trump and other American officials, long before any official response from the Nigerian government.

The PDP noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs only released a “vague statement” several hours later, which merely offered a passive confirmation of Nigeria’s awareness of, and cooperation in the operation.

“While international cooperation in the fight against high crimes like terrorism is very much appreciated, the Peoples Democratic Party is deeply concerned about a communication structure where foreign powers break the news of security operations in our country before our government does,” the statement read.

The party warned that such an “inverted communication approach” does not serve the interests of either the Nigerian government or Nigerian citizens, particularly given reports that the U.S. military had, in the past, entered and operated within Nigeria without the prior permission or knowledge of the authorities.

According to the PDP, the Nigerian government ought to have been the first to officially inform Nigerians about the operation in order to properly sensitize the public, rather than waiting to confirm information that was already widely circulated.

The government should not be in a position of merely reacting to foreign announcements on security operations within its territory, unless it was taken unawares like the rest of the citizens,” the party stated.

The PDP further called on the Nigerian government to ensure that any defence agreement with the United States prioritizes joint operations.

The party stressed that such arrangements would promote knowledge sharing and experiential learning for Nigerian security forces.

This, the party said, would help Nigeria combat insecurity in a more sustainable manner, instead of relying on what it described as fully externally led “precision attacks

The issue is that Tinubu is not in touch with the reality.
Yesterday, he was busy tagging Trump on twitter during his Christmas msg just to prove a point, only to wake up with sad news this morning.. He’s not aware of Donlad Trump’s plans..

The “joint operation” statement is just to save a face, which everyone would do to cover his or her shame

When trump released a statement about Nigeria being a country of particular concern and also a disgraced nation he made one thing clearhuh " We will be swift and quick"... So there's no way Tinubu would have done something.

I thought as much...

Tinubu only started issuing statements after the news broke out in foreign media.

This government is a sham and the US doesn't really rate it!

It was Nigeria that provided the intelligence. Infant, our foreign affairs minister spoke with Marco Rubio just before and after the strikes.

While Tinubu was busy attending owambe parties in Lagos and sending Christmas wishes and tagging Trump, he did not realize that Trump and the United States had other plans, a far different Christmas “gift,” delivered through numerous precise airstrikes on terrorist locations right on Christmas Day.

PDP should stop playing cheap politics with serious national issues.

Those who are not in the know about the operation should stop wailing unnecessarily

Nigerian government is just doing damage control and trying to save face.
Few hours before Trump made the announcement, both The Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede AFM and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General W Shaibu shared pictures where they are partying, sharing rice in Plateau state same time American troops were bombing Islamic Terrorists in Sokoto and Zamfara grin.

I have made good and crytical analysis over the matter elsewhere. Check my immediate past posts and see for yourself.

The fact is that the USA , backed by her Congress, has formally set up a joint working force with Nigeria to combat Fulani terror in Nigeria.

What is the point, when we all know and accept this fact that such a joint work force exist, of revelling in self-deceit, especially after USA and Nigeria have publicly cited the latest anti-terror bombing with Nigeria to be a joint effort, claiming "Tinubu never knew about any strike" or "strike not a joint effort" ?

The sad thing is that those making these noise are not members of the joint anti-terror force USA and Nigeria, showing mutual respect for each other, went ahead to convene. Yet they know more than the official statement USA and Nigeria have put out.

There is something wrong with the soul of Nigeria and Nigerians that continuously leads to the situation we see today where too many Nigerians, than is healthy, find it easier to attack government over good development we all stated we wanted rather than just give credit where due and praise gains made.

This is why I am a die-hard regionalist. I know, with so much proof visible daily backing my stance, Nigerians will never love themselves enough to create a great nation that should be the pride of black people globally as the biggest black nation on Earth.

Simple bombing of terrorists, that should be welcomed by all Nigerians, we have turned into "Tinubu was ignored" and "USA acted alone" etc, etc because of nothing but hatred of our nation and fellow Nigerians.

PDP should shut up, they are not better than APC.

Southern Nigerians should get sense, protect the south, no let them use religion deceive you. We are who we are, from our tribes before religion. For freedom, progress and civility.

So Nigeria, presumably one of the military in Africa, now need USA to combat local psychopaths and terrorists?

Interesting...

America did not even seek their powerless permission before they went ahead with last night air strike.
