AES Forces Destroy Terrorist Logistics Base Near Mali–Mauritania Border

The combined forces of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) have destroyed a major logistics base belonging to a terrorist group in western Mali, near the Mauritanian border, security sources have confirmed.
The operation, carried out in the Nioro area, followed actionable intelligence gathered through coordinated and proactive efforts by AES security and intelligence services. The strike was executed as part of ongoing measures to prevent cross-border infiltration and disrupt terrorist supply lines in the Sahel region.
According to the sources, the targeted facility served as a logistics and support hub for terrorist elements operating along the Mali–Mauritania axis. Several items used for sustaining armed operations were destroyed during the operation, significantly degrading the group’s operational capacity.
The successful operation underscores the evolving security posture of the AES, which places emphasis on anticipation, intelligence-led actions and close coordination among member states. Security officials noted that the new approach prioritises discretion and efficiency to ensure rapid responses to emerging threats.
The AES authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding territorial integrity and maintaining stability across the Sahel, warning that any attempt to destabilise the region would continue to attract a firm and decisive response from the unified forces.

I like these wheel armored vehicles the SANF are fielding here. In my view this is the solution to the issue of ISWAPs ubiquitous gun trucks.
A vehicle based on one of the many Nigerian assembled MRAPs or APCs (e.g. Igirigi, Ezeugwu and others from Proforce etc.), with reinforced frontal amour to withstand 12.7mm shells, with a turret mounted 20-30mm cannon.

It would be relatively cheap (being assembled locally) and cannon would out range the Dhsk 12.7mm which ISWAP favors. With imported aiming and fire control systems it would be able to accurately target and take out those gun trucks from over 1km on level ground, and would itself be impervious to the fire from the gun trucks.

Elsewhere, in Edo State, four (4) suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and for alleged violent attacks on a community. In Lagos and Ogun States, two (2) suspects linked to a car-snatching syndicate were apprehended. Additionally, in Nasarawa and other neighbouring States, twelve (12) suspects, namely Mohammed Isa, John Baba, Musa Iliyasu, Rabiu Hussaini, Mohammed Abdullahi, Adamu Hassan, Usman Mohammed, Umar Musa, Muhammadu Ahmad, Inusa Adamu, Shuaibu Mohammed, and Sulaiman Dabo, connected to banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling were arrested, with several firearms recovered during the operations.

Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) wishes to inform the general public of an explosion incident that occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 24 December 2025, at a mosque located within Gamboru Market in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), while Muslim faithfuls were observing evening prayers.

Preliminary findings indicated that the incident was caused by a suspected Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) suicide bomber, who detonated an improvised explosive device, killing himself and 2 civilians on the scene.

Troops, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, other sister security agencies, Borno State Government and NEMA responded promptly, secured, and cordoned off the affected area to prevent further harm and ensure public safety. COAS CHARGES TROOPS TO MAINTAIN OPERATIONAL MOMENTUM, DECISIVELY CRUSH BANDITS AND TERRORISTS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of 8 Division Sokoto and Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to sustain the current operational tempo and decisively eliminate bandits and terrorists operating within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge on 27 December 2025, while addressing troops of 248 Reconnaissance Battalion, Illela, Sokoto State, during an operational visit to Formations and Units under the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

The COAS commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism and resilience in confronting criminal elements whose activities have brought untold hardship to innocent Nigerians. He lauded their operational successes, noting that their sustained efforts have significantly improved security within the Area of Responsibility.

“I commend you for your courage, professionalism and the operational successes recorded so far. Your sacrifices have translated into improved security in your Area of Responsibility. You must maintain the momentum to further annihilate and send the terrorists to their maker who is to decide what to do with them. We can no longer tolerate their excesses against the Nigerian people” the COAS stated.

Lieutenant General Shaibu further reassured the troops of his unwavering commitment to their welfare. He directed the construction of additional accommodation, medical and other essential facilities at Illela Barracks to enhance the morale, well-being and operational effectiveness of troops and their families.

While receiving a CAN delegation led by Archbishop Daniel Okoh in Lagos, President Tinubu disclosed that the FG has ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S., expected to arrive “soon,” and that Turkey has also been approached for assistance.

What stands out is that this hasn’t been publicly reported before. The only known U.S. related helicopter deals are for 12 AH-1Z Vipers and 12–24 MD530F helicopters (probably now on hold), There has been no open source reporting on a separate order for 4 units of any helicopter

Literally impossible. How can civilians give you BDA?

That’s a BGM 109 block IV with sat feed and loiter ability. It can be controlled via military satellite with video feedback. Even if the initial target is incorrect. The strike can be paused. The missile will go into an holding pattern and the target updated before it hits the new target.

Cruise missiles are insanely accurate. This is not Air to ground missile. Unless a tomahawk missile failed mid flight and crashed, it will certainly hit its target. It does not miss.

AFRICOM will still do a detailed analysis and send the BDA to congress later. From there you’ll see the casualty figure and whether any civilians were hit.

CHRISTMAS: CDS, COAS FETE FRONTLINE TROOPS AT SPECIAL LUNCHEON IN SOKOTO

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, in company with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday, 26 December 2025, feted frontline troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA at a special Christmas luncheon held at Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto State.

The operational visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA was aimed at boosting morale, appreciating the sacrifices of troops and reinforcing strategic directives for ongoing operations across the North West.

Addressing officers and soldiers at the luncheon, the CDS conveyed warm Yuletide greetings and commended the troops for their courage, discipline and unwavering commitment to duty, especially at a time when many Nigerians were celebrating with their families.

“While many Nigerians celebrate this season with their loved ones, you remain steadfast at your duty posts. With sweat on your temples and strength in your backs, you are the wall that never breaks and the hope that can never be shattered,” the CDS noted.

He praised the operational gains recorded under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, noting that the efforts of the troops have significantly contributed to restoring public confidence and stabilising the North West geopolitical zone and adjoining states. The CDS urged sustained collaboration with other security agencies, federal and state authorities, as well as continuous engagement with local communities to consolidate peace.

General Oluyede reassured the troops that their welfare remains a top priority, stressing his commitment to improving living and working conditions, healthcare delivery, and support for families of personnel.
He further charged the troops to maintain heightened vigilance during the festive period, warning that criminal elements often attempt to exploit such periods to undermine security. “Remain alert, proactive and disciplined at all times, strictly adhering to the rules of engagement and respect for human rights. Do not be swayed by false narratives or propaganda,” he cautioned.

The CDS also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support for military operations nationwide, assuring Nigerians that the Armed Forces would remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and all forms of criminality.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu described the Christmas luncheon as a long-standing tradition aimed at recognising the sacrifices, resilience and professionalism of troops deployed in operational theatres.

“It gives me a deep sense of fulfilment to celebrate Christmas with you, our gallant troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff. While we make merry here, similar luncheons are ongoing across other operational theatres in the country,” the COAS revealed.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the Christmas season provides an opportunity for reflection, thanksgiving and remembrance of fallen heroes whose ultimate sacrifices continue to make Nigeria safer. He assured the troops that the Nigerian Army would continue to honour its fallen personnel by supporting their families and upholding their legacy.

He reiterated his Command Philosophy of Transforming the Nigerian Army into a More Professional, Adaptable, Combat-Ready and Resilient Force, with strong emphasis on personnel welfare, rewards for excellence and operational readiness.

The COAS urged the troops to celebrate responsibly, remain security-conscious and uphold the highest standards of conduct, while conveying the appreciation of the President and the gratitude of well-meaning Nigerians for their selfless service.

Both Service Chiefs reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to safeguarding the nation’s peace, unity and democratic stability, while wishing the troops a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year 2026.
