Does the new law increase VAT?

Everyone in this govt is mischievous. Taiwo Oyedele is aware that there would be an outcry, so he quickly said poor people and small businesses won’t be affected by the proposed increase in VAT.

Of course, even a novice in economics knows that when companies are burdened with higher taxes, they transfer this burden to consumers, which invalidates his baseless assurance that poor people and small businesses would be exempted since inflation, which higher taxes on businesses will activate, is an ill wind that blows nobody any good.

However, Oyedele thinks Nigerians are morons while saying the government had extracted a commitment from businesses that they won’t jack up the prices of their goods and services in response to the increased tax obligation.
How many percent is the proposed increase

Do you know what irritates me the most with this administration? I'll tell you

Let's assume that all of these "slow down the economy, widen the tax net, reduce purchasing power, unify rates, devalue currency, remove subsidy, student loan, power supply by bands", increased custom duty etc., are actually the plans to make this country move forward. Again an assumption!

Administrations as far back as year 2000 have wanted to introduce some of these plans in bits, but Tinubu was like their number 1 critique. Even this man championing the Tax Act criticized previous administrations. Now, he's doing everything at once, as in, every of the agenda, all at once!

What if there was a better time to do it and the better time was years ago?
What if the economy had recovered years ago?
This indirectly means that this man slowed down the country for yearssssss? I blame the previous administration, even though, they had listening ears.

One thing is sure! There's no plan!
At the end of the tenure or tenures, Nigerians would realize that this was another "trial and error" administration that only delivered a few roads or other related infrastructures, but unfortunately, the cut would be so deep that the country would take longer to recover.
You sound like me in your last paragraph eleven years ago on this forum.

When I went to Benin by road middle of the year and returned with waist pain that lasted three days due to the horrible roads the cycle was complete.

Never believe what they tell you they will achieve by the yoke they put round your neck. All the Buhari hype on the infrastructure they claimed his government excelled in is just smoke and mirrors. Most highways remain in terrible state.

All the taxes they will burden you with will not result in any noticable improvement in your standard of living by the time they leave government.

Make the people so economically disaffiliated that they are vulnerable to manipulation.

Tinubu’s target is not more money. The focus is to further impoverish the masses to ensure subservience to the elite class.

That is his style of politics
Hmmm. I was talking to a friend of mine about this today. I told him since he was Lagos state's governor and left office he still has his hands on the funds generated by Lagos state till today. What kind of money is this man still looking for?

This just answers it.

The writer's angst is understandable but the solution is not to throw tantrums but to engage constructively.

The VAT increase is inevitable but it would be gradual and well communicated.

The writer should also be ready to pay more for goods and services as an average consumer
pay more for goods and service like Electricity abi?

and after paying more on band A, we still no dey see am.....you people are insufferable sha. but continie to defend.

no living wages, 70k is not enough as minimum wage, but if NLC cry out, you people will blackmail them still you want us to pay more from which wrap?

Didn't bother to read the rest of the monologue because President Tinubu has not increased tax with the reformed tax law instead reduced it and prevents multiple taxation that is being done under the previous tax law so yes tax increase is bad for the economy just as Tinubu said.

Did you write an epistle at that time to support Tinubu assertion that tax increase is bad. People with parasitic opinion not postulating any original thoughts but always analyzing other people's opinion to make points.

VAT still remains at 7.5 percent. There's no increase in VAT in the proposed tax laws.

Just imagine!

I don't know if there's a rule that says institutional development cannot co-exist with infrastructural development. All they know is repair roads, build a few bridges. The remainder of the money is spent on their allowances, cars and trips. Although, roads and bridges are not bad, but we can't stay on this every tenure.

“If we reduce the purchasing power of the people, we can further slow down the economy. Let’s widen the tax net"

It will hit everyone, not only we who have been shouting since 2023 not to vote this man, not out of hate or tribal sentiments but because he would throw this country overboard.
We fully supported Yemi Osinbajo but Tinubu allies and the army of millions who eat from his crumbs called us names.

Few days from today will finally define the path this country will head to as I see serious crises brewing.
The National Assembly that was supposed to fight this fight have already been subdued with billions of bribe, so there's no hope for the common man as we all shall go down together.
