How To Know If Your Church/fellowship Is Becoming A Cult! by Sermwell(op): 10:08pm On Dec 27, 2025
As we approach year 2026, ensure you make a review of your church or fellowship on campus and ascertain of your are not in a church cult.

(1) constant activities that drains you completely, such as constant multiple services, rehearsals, programs etc. For instance, your church just ended one program and they're already preparing for another one. You attend church activities like 5 or 6 days in a week. And when you complain, they question your spiritual life by asking you to pray and fast more

(2) Personal boundaries are disrespected, such as asking about your personal situations, sex life, your relationship, family, and if you're married, they want to know private things between you and your husband/wife. They may even manipulate you to say the dettiest or most horrible things you've have done, which they end up using against you.

(3) Public shaming, such as using your personal information to preach in church, or calling you up in front of the whole church, and using your private information to claim they're seeing a prophecy about you. They can also say dirty secrets of those who have left the church before everyone in a church service, thereby making existing members to hate them

(4) When you feel constant pressure to be submissive, especially women. There's always this constant question as to if you're doing the right thing, by making you feel you're not humble or submissive enough. You are constantly chasing perfection which gives you that feeling of fear rather than love whenever you're in church or going to church.

(5) We are the only true church mentality. They make you believe that every other church is not a good church, to the extent that you even feel sorry for your parents or siblings for attending other churches

"Cult" is the wrong word here. Cult values secrecy more than anything else. Cult obeys principles and respect boundaries.

Your writeup talks about churches that publicise secret things and cross boundaries.

The purpose is that churches have become centers for emotional manipulations, divisiveness, immorality and fraud.

You could have just said this instead of bringing cultism to the matter. By definition, most churches are not cults, so instead of trying to create a false narrative, just attack the issue on ground and speak against corruption in the churches.
