At first, I assumed heavy drinking or drug use was the genesis of the accident. On a second thought, I doubt it. Bad roads, unfit drivers and someone raised outside the country behind the wheel were the likely contributors.

I remember traveling on the road back in England one night. Our oyibo friend was behind the wheel. It was 2250 hrs and we had a journey of an hour ahead. She was with her boyfriend. They both were in the front seats. This waifish woman fired the car at a steady 111.847 mph. My heart was in my throat almost thirty minutes into the journey. Funny enough, her boyfriend was relaxed and gisting the whole time. It occurred to me that this was the norm whenever they traveled. The roads were brightly lit and every warning sign was highly visible. We passed police checkpoints and no alarm was blown. It showed me that we were within the law. For the next thirty minutes I relaxed. I didn’t forget to thank my stars when I was safely in bed that night. I’m better suited to 120 kmph as the highest speed when commuting.

Imagine AJ’s friend telling him “don’t worry, I’ll drive” instead of them hiring an indigenous driver. It was a recipe for disaster. If they drove at 100 kmph, all three of them would be safe and having a laugh about the trip by this time.
Ogbeni, get your facts right. AJ’s friends were not driving. One was in front and another at the back with AJ. The impact happened on the right side of the car and they both died. AJ and the driver on the left side of the car survived.

Una go just open mouth waaaaaaaaaa dey misyearn with confidence. Hiss!!!! angry

That road is actually in good condition yet remains very dangerous especially at night because of these many trucks. Some of them drive without lights at night. I nor dey use Lagos-Ibadan express play at all!

One of those that died was beside him. He was on the left side with the driver and they both survived. The other two on the right side of the car (front and back) died.
That means the driver intentionally avoided using his own side to hit the truck when he realised it was stationary and he was over speeding.

This accident was 90% due to driver's carelessness and he should be prosecuted!
Re: Anthony Joshua: FRSC Blames Excessive Speed, Wrongful Overtaking For Car Crash by Minjim:
The kind of reckless driving you can drive in Nigeria, you can't try it in a civilised country that has a functioning system. The cops would have pulled you over .

The driver was over speeding and no police was there to pull him over?

I hope the will teach Ogun government some lesson to put traffic officials on that road to caution reckless drivers. Moreover, they should do something about theses trucks always parking recklessly on highways . Vehicles are always speeding on Highways.

I know the Corp won't we want to blame it on the reckless parking on highway because it'll highlight their negligence

We see the same recklessness with Tinubu's escorts
Whenever you visit Nigeria and caution them they say you don't know how to drive

There was a broken down trailer in the middle of the expressway way. That is a disaster waiting to happen anyway for the normal Nigerian driver and 5 times dangerous for a foreign driver, 10 times dangerous for a British right sided driver.

Governments failure is why was a broken down trailer in the middle of the expressway? Abd unattended to.

He has absolutely no excuse for not seeing a parked truck on the roadway ...it was mid day ...not midnight. Very poor judgement. One would think he'll be more careful seeing he's driving a celebrity.... but this is the opportunity he used to show off his daredevil skills. I'm sure he never got his license legally. Th more daring you be...th better driver you are ...the mentality of most drivers . Thank God not much visibl damage to AJ .... just hope no trauma shows up a few years from ok now.

Same accident type that killed Dagrin. Over speeding and Stationary truck.
Why is no one saying anything about the driver that caused the accident
It's an accident. Let's not call out blames now.

Poor country! undecided

The metrics of measurement of any poor country is the quality of the people on the streets and those living on the margins in the society.

In as much as it might be cause by wrong driving, I think government should put a stop to all these truck parking by the road side.

If I have suggested that every local government should setup a trailer park and any trailer park outside of the park should be fined.
Seriously we need to solve this safety dilemma. Some portions of most Nigerian highways are dangerously narrowed by trucks parked on both sides. This is a huge problem across the country.

Any experienced driver who examines the position of the crash and the level of impact will tell you it happened due to over speeding and reckless overtaking!
An armored SUV running 60km/h and slammed into a fully loaded stationary truck, which vehicle do you think will be written off?

You should understand Newton's laws of motions particularly the 3rd one. I still disagree with your assertion, prove me wrong and prove yourself correct by our comments.

Why was the truck stationary?

What warning signs were positioned around the stationary truck?
FRSC quick to blame over speeding. Why didn't they remove the the faulty truck from the road

If you are driving, does FRSC need to tell you that is the cause before you know? Looking at that level of impact, you should know the driver driving that Lexus is a madman regardless of if a truck is parked by the roadside or not.
What about the stationed truck... On the highway without Warning sign

Many local government boss have stone has brains. Setting a park will generate money has trailer parked at the park will pay a small fee this could also generate some fund.

After making these findings what are you going to do about the defaulters?
Records show that roughly 80-85% of road accidents are caused by reckless driving but unfortunately, the fatalities do not seem to abate because stern punishments have not been meted on the perpetrators!
