actually, it is both

buhari gave siemens a deal in 2019 to revamp the backbone of the power sector
the plan was to upgrade transmission to 25GW by 2025
not mere expansion, but a full-on get-in-the-weeds anything that is past its use-by date will be taken out
funding would be provided by the world's largest national development bank -- the german KfW
financing was a single-digit loan payable directly to siemens as the project progresses
all nigeria had to do was provide counterpart funding of tens of millions and pay the interest on the cheap loan
corruption is not a factor

today is two days to christmas and we are no where near 25GW
the germans used covid as an excuse
i bet they'd use the data center power crunch as a new excuse at the turn of the year

the chinese would have done it cheaper, faster, and with the exact same funding structure
their electrical supply chain is immune to whatever is happening in the west

if a nation of nigeria's stature does not have a dependable 25GW grid, no one is coming in
the chinese partners ote$ invited to fund geregu expansion have their hearts in their mouths because the only reason why they're not historic bagholders is because of the sweetheart GENCO deal that could be torched at any time
they look at the gas players and think "f*ck, that could be us"

Nnaji's geometric foreign investors are f*cked
they invested when $ was less than 150/$
blew past budget and timelines and have to recoup at 1500/$
forget about those who were leveraged
if they weren't racist before, they would be after nigeria happened to them

if the chinese with their 2% refi rates are seeing hell
who at enel, schneider, or constellation will sell FX bonds to raise cash to invest here
when they are having a bonanza in north america and serious emerging economies
yet, we desperately need the expertise of these world class players

i'll commend adelabu for not succumbing to pressure on the bands
but much of the ministry is operating on auto pilot
as there are too many structural issues

for instance, the south is subsidizing the rest of the country
only the lagos DISCOs are semi economically viable
Yola EDC in particular should be disconnected from the grid
everyone in that service area should be told to go buy solar
the core investor the GEJ administration sold YEDC to asked for their money back within 4 months of buhari's government
as of 2023, 9 of the 11 discos were functionally bankrupt

from 2013 to 2019, the discos reported losses of N2T at pre-tinubu subsidized exchange rate
Emefiele sank N1.2T as interventions in seven years and it barely made a dent
the numbers are improving after introduction of bands but the GEJ sold the DISCOs to cronies myth unraveled
the banks/investors that took over troubled discos have had their etisalat/9mobile moment

the most straightforward way to fix power in nigeria is to do what eisenhower did with the interstate highway system
the federal government follows through on an initiative where foreign development banks + swfs provide the funding, the federal government is the final backstop of the loan (however large it is), and foreign power companies are invited and contracted to do the buildout
the reason why this is a fever dream is that nigeria is not creditworthy
five years into such a project, and that is a conservative number, we will start begging for debt relief and forgiveness

in the absence of that, we will keep using duct tape. rainy season (hydro), and inshallah to fix power
if you like, clone nikola tesla and make him the power minister, he ain't performing no miracles

It can't be that high a speed especially if it took a hit on the side and the vehicle didn't flip

Nigeria still happened to them, from the careless driver to the parked truck. You would never see a vehicle parked on motorway or expressway in the abroad. They have hard shoulder running alongside the road for cars that breakdown, and laybys for drivers to take a rest every few km, not Naija where someone will just place a stationary vehicle on the side of a high speed road
It was that high of a speed, my Chief.

Truly, the country is sick if trucks can just park on highways. It's very rampant here. Almost ever old Toll gates are littered with trucks parked anyhow.

But then, if the speed wasn't high, they would have been able to control it. The picture shows that the road was good. Maybe they tried overtaking, and calculated wrongly.

May their families find comfort

Whats high speed on naija road is another question as we no Dey ever get speed signs. That should be a 100/110 road and ain’t controlling your car well if going 110.

A lot of things are wrong here.

No speed signs. No good roads. No emergency services.

So when we drive, we try not to get involved in any accident. The odds are already against you.

Will their families sue AJ for the loss of their loved ones
Not a chance, because they weren’t his employees on official duties.
But AJ would most likely pay some money to their families as part of his condolences
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 9:54pm On Dec 29, 2025
The last time I saw emergency services was during Fashola and Ambode's tenure. There used to be ambulances across highways in Lagos. After Lagos, these services were not existent.

Today, all have disappeared.

If you get accident, well meaning Nigerians will drag you out of the rubble, and begin to contemplate who should carry you to the hospital, because that's another police case in the waiting

One of the reason bystanders are reluctant to help. Your good might land you in big trouble.

Reno Omokri say we are demarketing Nigeria

He said that FRSC showed up few minutes after they were called.

So FRSC showed up to an accident scene without an ambulance.....What were they expecting to see there?

These people have lost every sense of right thinking

Unless the police men are actually people of respectable character, you will land in trouble.

Your first problem starts when hospitals begin to reject the victim, the moment they hear that you just rescued them, and you're not related in any way.

Na so dem go dey reject you till the person die

Most definitely a case of wrong overtaking.
My guess is he already wanted to overtake from afar. He must have been approaching the slow vehicle on the speed lane. Then at the last minute switched to the other lane. Realising the truck wasn't moving, he swerved and landed on the median. He/they were definitely on high speed. That wasn't a case of bad road.

It is a very sad one. I doubt AJ would recover from this. What would he tell their loved ones?

Sincerely, I can't even think of what he's going through mentally...

If they have kids, how would their wives cope?

Actually one of the dead is his coach so there may be some liability here. There should also be some insurance. They would be employed by AJs company which would have insurance for employees on duty. The other guy Abdul Latif (nee Latif Ayodele before conversion to Islam) is also on his team and is an employee

Official report has changed the cause of crash from over speeding to blown tire, reducing the liability on AJ
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 11:09pm On Dec 29, 2025
The owner of the car they drove has lost substantial millions of naira if the SUV is a typical rental which foreign based celebrities use whenever they are in town.

Exacot the owner insured the car comprehensively, that's a major loss of income/business interruption.

On all sides the incident is an unfortunate one.. The people wno lost family members, AJ who will love with the trauma of losing loved ones in am accident and the owners of the vehicle that is now right-off.

I'm sure Nigeria police will seize that stationary truck. The owner will pay through their nose to have it released later for them to sell as scrap

Think you may be right about the overspeeding thing.

Just seen pictures of the vehicle; which is even a bullet proof vehicle. Sustaining that kind of impact especially if you consider that the truck that was hit was stationary.

FRSC posts on social media also alludes to overspeeding plus overtaking

Lmao, you too funny...... the stationary truck angle is another gbese.

Omo. This one is stuff of nightmares mehn. I couldn't imagine bringing two of my homies to my country and they die on my watch

What do you tell the loved ones and how do you look them in the eye.

I saw their bodies on the bare hard asphalt. See how dem bring AJ comot motor and the circus. I'm sure he's not coming back anytime soon.

It's unfortunate our anyhowness is once again on full glare and display. Someone fresh off an accident sitting in front of a police vehicle. Nigeria is really not a real place

And to this speeding especially interstate. People have to be smarter mehn, all speeding is generally bad, we saw what happened with the COD founder guy barely a week ago. But speeding in a country with no emergency infrastructure is basically taking mortuary chances cos there are many variables going into surviving a crash and the faster you're running the less of a chance you give yourself.

The irony is you overspeeding and the person driving normally you can never get there more than 15 minutes earlier

I doubt if they can bail their truck in the next 6 months sef.

I even doubt if the owner will show up.

Because dem go first fling am inside cells. Then read charges of attempted murder to him.

That vehicle will be used as the proof that FRSC is working in 2025, and they have zero tolerance for parking on the highways. That's the new image of "Eye service".

They better convert all FRSC officials to emergency responders, and buy ambulances, instead of pick up trucks for them

There's this local proverb that says that "Na person wey reach him destination be good driver".

No matter how fast you drive, if you have an accident, people will always find a way to blame your actions and inactions.

We are Nigerians, seeing dead bodies is part of our upbringing, e no dey shock us.
We are so used to dysfunction unfortunately. I saw a body with a severed head for the first time on my commute to school as a 14y.o on the Lasu-Igando road. At least once every 3-6 months you're gonna see a body.

That body was on the road for several days, it was the stench that reminded you you were close to it on these commutes. It got even worse when Lasu cultists start their rampage. You would see bodies on the entrance to their main gate, back gate. Crazy stuff

Person wey be Nigerian no suppose still go hell fire walahi

Who drive with mouth no dey get accident. Me personally I don't see why anyone should be speeding recklessly unless they're suicidal. I have been in two car crashes and the only reason I'm here today is cos both vehicles were moving at somewhat manageable speed

The thing about speeding is the reaction time to correct your mistakes and the impact of whatever it is you hit. Your body was not built to survive that G-force. I'm always alarmed that so many people still do not understand this.

And that is not even factoring innocent people you might kill due to your errors

Nigerians do not consider a lot of things oh.
