Federal High Court in Abuja Orders Remand of Ex-AGF Abubakar Malami, Son, in Kuje Prison Over allegations of Money Laundering Charges

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), his son Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The trio appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite on Tuesday, where they pleaded not guilty to a fresh 16-count charge of money laundering filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Following their plea and after hearing arguments from both the defence team (led by Joseph Daudu, SAN) and the prosecution (led by Ekele Iheneacho, SAN), the judge ordered their immediate remand in Kuje Prison pending the hearing and determination of their bail applications.

The EFCC alleges that between 2015 and 2023 a period covering Malami's entire tenure as AGF,

The alleged offences are said to violate the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended) and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, with some acts purportedly committed while Malami held the position of chief law officer of the federation.

This remand order follows Malami's arraignment earlier on December 30, after weeks of prior detention and legal battles over bail conditions with the EFCC. The former AGF and his co-defendants have consistently denied the allegations, with Malami previously describing aspects of the probe as politically motivated.

EFCC should squeeze out every single kobo that he stole while in office out of him. He must never be allowed to go and enjoy his loots.

Truly Politically Motivated Trial but every corrupt person must pay back all stolen wealth from Nigeria.

I Stand with Peter Obi anyday.

Nigeria is a funny country.

The more bigger thief and criminal you become the more APC will celebrate you.

You forgot to add Obi to the list. Just because he was never charged doesn't mean he did not steal let him come.snd explain the 250m in the booth of his car. Also why invest state money in to a business in which you have financial interest. Pandora money is another one. Many corrupt politicians are walking freely doesn't mean that they never stole.

This man was feeling like God when Buhari was in power.

He became the constitution of the country and was feeling ontop of the world.

He forgot that power, highest it's 8 years and then you're back to being a normal citizen again.

These people pushing this tax forget they will only be in power for a while and once out, the very tax law will hold them too.

Jokes. But Okowa is Tinubu's renewed hope ambassador for Southsouth while Yahaya Bello is prepping up to contest against Senator Natasha. Tinubu is paranoid. He's trying desperately to starve opposition of funds but funding will come from unlikely quarters. Even Batists confessed that Sanwo-olu funded Atiku in 2023.

And he should serve his time if found guilty.
Those who are quick to berate government directed criticism as politicizing issues should themselves stand to ensure no politically motivated deals of escape are made.

Because I can count on the palm of one hand the number of successful convictions of politically exposed people and where they so happen to see the inside of a jail cell they are quickly pardoned.

With all the tales of graft and the mountain of financial recklessness that has crashed down on the Nigerian state and decimated the economy since 1999, there is zero, zero, zero, not one, not a single hair on the head of any principal of an MDA or government enterprise in prison today.

They are ALL walking free and ALL enjoying the proceeds of their crimes. And the list of escapees grows longer by the regime.
