The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that a tyre burst caused the road accident involving British Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, resulting in two fatalities and minor injuries to the boxer.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this on Monday at the Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He explained that the tyre burst caused the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team to lose control before colliding with a stationary truck.

The crash occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, and claimed the lives of two members of Joshua’s team, identified as his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Joshua, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is currently in stable condition after receiving medical attention in Lagos.

The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.

How can you conclusively say tyre got burst, when half of the vehicle was almost ripped apart.
&FRSC claimed overspeeding & reckless overtaking.

Sounds more like a face-saving statement. Possibly, AJ's narrative.

But how the driver survived this accident most be studied.

He drives in America, no tyre burst, he drives in the UK always, including in the UAE during his vacation, taya no burst. Naija and weirdo. They knew he's coming home as usual for festivity. This is one of the reasons people don't like coming home. If you must visit, don't show off. He who says village people don't exist is still sleeping. The road is so smooth so, bad road can't be the cause

If it’s Tyre busting then which of the tires

That accident does not look like a case of tyre busting , it’s more of dangerous overtaking on top speed

Tyre busting most times makes the cast to spin most especially if the driver step on brake

No. Lagos-ibadan expressway is one of the modern highways in Nigeria, started by GEJ but completed by the Buhari's administration. The sagamu portion is cemented, instead of using asphalt.So, the accident can't be attributed to bad road
