You can't tell if it was tyre burst. The vehicle occupants, probably the driver can tell what actually happened.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that a tyre burst caused the road accident involving British Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, resulting in two fatalities and minor injuries to the boxer.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this on Monday at the Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He explained that the tyre burst caused the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team to lose control before colliding with a stationary truck.

The crash occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, and claimed the lives of two members of Joshua’s team, identified as his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Joshua, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is currently in stable condition after receiving medical attention in Lagos.

The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, which occurred on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.

Both members of AJ's team who unfortunately lost their lives in that horrendous accident are British-Nigerians and seem to be of Yoruba descent based off of their names... Latif "Latz" Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Though light-skinned, it's clear they are both of mixed heritage of African and European (or Caucasian) roots.

I still feel goosebumps over how ephemeral this life is. One moment, they (Latz Ayodele and Sina Ghami) were alive in videos taken of them by AJ just yesterday on arrival from the United Kingdom at the Lagos International Airport and the NEXT thing, the Lexus Jeep crashed into the rear of a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on their way to AJ's ancestral home of Sagamu.

Don't be so gullible.
Someone that had an accident due to overspeeding or reckless driving, will always put out a contrary narrative that will shift blame away from himself.

An independent investigation is needed to establish what truly happened.

Even Some cars are built to withstand pressure on wheels incase tire burst with anti torgue mode , auto breaking assist mode activated... But not when you are overspeeding like doing 180km/h

Anything above 140km/h.. just go and book a flight... because you are already flying... On the road .

All three can be true. (1) overspeeding, (2) overtaking, and (3) tyre burst. Who knows. It does seem there was an element of losing control so the tyre burst is plausible, though possibly in combination with these other factors.

Liar! And someone is trying to lie and cover up the real cause of the accident which was over speeding and dangerous overtaking. Truth as it appears to me is that the driver was, on very high speed, overtaking on the far right which is the parking lane or lay-by where the stationery trailer (as shown on the third picture below) was rightly parked. It is a very common genre of reckless and dangerous driving I regularly see happening on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway! That Trailer was lawfully positioned where it was. Truth is being covered up by someone for whatever reason. The FRSC already spoke up. Little wonder it took sometime before the picture of the frontage of the now-wrecked accident vehicle got out to the public space. Before now what was commonly seen was the back of the accident vehicle and I kept asking myself why is the front not shown. I kept suspecting somebody was trying to hide something and suppress information flow. The driver drove furiously in a terror style into the belly of the stationary trailer: that much is now clear! Rather than attempt a cover-up the authorities will do well to educate the motoring public on the dangers in overtaking on the right where you might just have a stationary vehicle parked (as in the instant case) or a pedestrian standing or someone fixing a bad tire. Except for the burst rear tyre and its badly dented rim the stationary trailer bare had any sign on it showing it was badly rammed by the accident vehicle at a terrorist speed! Here you have a lying Policeman saying it was a collision!!! Thoroughly shameless for 30 pieces of silver in betrayal of public trust!!!

It was not a tyre burst. The Policeman was lying through his teeth. Clearly Anthony Joshua's vehicle recklessly and dangerously overtaking on the right at a very high speed ran into the stationary trailer lawfully parked well of the road and from behind. See the pictures below. Especially the second picture showing the position of the trailer whose tyre went burst and the tyre rim badly dented when Anthony Joshua's driver did the evil deed that killed two on the spot!!

The statement by the Nigeria Police is a face-saving PR for Joshua. He should just be very careful with the kind of people he moves and drives around with.
And when he is driving or traveling long distance on the expressway, he should move with at least one security escort vehicle which would be ahead of his vehicle. Tbis would help minimize the possibility of overspeeding and road crashes like this.
