COMRADES, I don't understand this case oo, is the offender/ culprit who is supposed to be punished for their crimes or the parents
Re: Couple Banished In Anambra After Their Son Pushed 2 Siblings Into River by Tendd:
People making laws by themselves and persecuting their fellow humans. Why banish the parents? So barbaric. We watched a man being manhandled in Edo state,a few days ago, for criticising the Oba of Benin and now this one again.Nigerians seem to take delight in barbarism or mob action.

What is Barbarian about this? ...you see Barbarism in the penalty but not the act. If the parents raised their son right there was no need for this.
✓ Police and prison were never part of African culture ... what's wrong with practicing our own? It's called accountability.... not fit to live amongst others ....banishment. I still strongly believe the murderer should've been forced to eat at least one bowl of heaping hot peppers before being banished.
Penalty as defined but the legal framework in the state of by a mob? 🥱🥱🥱

2. African culture when there is codified system of laws in place which all citizens are to be held accountable to? You think you can just wake up one morning and decide your own brand of jungle justice on your neighbor and then tag it African culture, abi? Nonsense !! Ever using words they have no true grasp of. 🥱🥱🥱

Go f up for your commit. When dem banish you, call police for them.
My community is simple. We just ostracize you.
Na only poor illiterate people una dey fit attack with that nonsense knowing fully well that chances are slim to none that they will stand up for themselves. Try that against any well established educated individual and all of you there might end up selling your lands and moving away to pay the penalty for your actions. 🥱🥱🥱

If he's a minor take him to juvenile court. He still bears criminal responsibility

and outrage have gripped Isiagu community in Awka, Anambra State, after a tragic incident claimed the lives of two young siblings.

The children were reportedly pushed into a river by a fellow youth while searching for firewood, leading to their untimely deaths. In the aftermath, the alleged suspect’s parents have been banished from the community, sparking intense debate over justice, tradition, and communal responsibility in Nigeria.

The heartbreaking story has left residents in mourning and raised serious questions about accountability and safety.
grin very backward people…..how can you still be banishing people in this time and age? Yet they claim to be exposed and civilised undecided btw are billionaires still using firewood to cook in their billionaire region? Bunch of empty delusional chest beaters undecided

First of all, this is illegal nonsense and should not be encouraged. Second, I hope the boy who pushed the kids in the river has been charged and maybe even arrested, depending on the circumstances. 🥱🥱

The family that is supposedly being banished could actually sue the community for this. I don't know why in 2025, Nigerian communities still cling to barbarian practices. 🥱🥱
isn’t it better than it degrading to inhumane act like killing or maiming?
For me it was a more peaceful resolution

Inhumane acts from whom? Criminal members of the same community?🥱🥱🥱

2. If your idea of peace involves robbing others of peace and right by law, then there is nothing peaceful about your actions. 🥱🥱

Banish simply means to move out of the community. It’s a way to also prevent reprisal attacks.
Ofcourse not optimal but also not barbaric as you put it

2. You conveniently forgot to mention that is against the will and freedoms of those being banished. undecided

2. You prevent reprisal attacks by making sure the authorities are aware of the possibility and ensuring anyone responsible for such acts will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, not punish the potential victims of said attacks by telling them they can no longer live in the neighborhood. 🥱🥱🥱

3. It is also illegal . So what in the world is this conversation for? 🥱🥱

There are communities that have no regard for State or Federal laws .... they have their own traditional justice system ....as in this case. The sooner we recognize this the less likely we will be shocked by "jungle justice".

You forgot legal laws need enforcement and enforcers?

So where are the law enforcers?
Why aren’t they doing anything?

Why aren’t you talking about them?

If the child is a minor there isn't much anyone can do about that. I don't know if Nigeria has facilities for the trial and rehabilitation of deviant minors. Lastly, if your kid is known for causing trouble and you failed to address and curtail his excesses. One day you may be held responsible for his escapades.

1. Last I checked, International, Federal, and State laws supersede any local/private jungle laws that a bunch of people claim they live by. 🥱🥱🥱

2. The reason you lot mouth off this jargon has a lot to do with the corrupt state of legal affairs in Nigeria. If not, I doubt you would have the audacity to spout this nonsense. 🥱🥱🥱

Is it the parents that commited the crime?
bloody hypocrite, they re many cultures in your Yoruba land that codedly needs human sacrifice. Some meaningful Yorubas among them will warn their friends on low key that doesn’t know about the practice to restrict their movements.
While they re some practices that doesn’t require a female to step outside on some axis throughout that whole day

I love this, once parents know they are accountable for the behaviors of their wards, they won't raise concerns to the society.

Then maybe we should start from there and not the barbaric place you jumped into? did you even ask if they have a police station? or possibly 12 community sharing 1 court room?

Don't be too quick to belittle others because you are in a faceless forum with them. I asked a question if Nigeria had facilities for handling minors involved in crimes and you started throwing a tantrum about "age" and remand homes. I asked this because cases abound were kids were put in the same jail/prison cell with hardened criminals. This won't have happened if your justice system is working well and the government actually have functional remand homes for minors. A good example is the case of the boy who stood in front of Obi’s convoy who was freed after three months in detention. Like I mentioned in some other place, the supposed banishment is much better than lynching that would have been the case in some other place. This will give the family the opportunity to seek redress and reconciliation...
