Good day everyone.
Please I need sincere and practical advice.
I’m trying to make serious career decisions going into 2026. I’m married, have responsibilities, and I don’t want to keep jumping from one idea to another or wasting time learning skills that sound good online but don’t actually translate to real jobs or income.
Everywhere you look now, people are recommending different things — tech, software development, data analysis, UI/UX, digital marketing, content creation, AI tools, product design, etc. The advice is overwhelming and sometimes contradictory.
What I’m looking for is not hype or “quick money” stories, but skills that are genuinely in demand, skills that employers or clients actually look for and are willing to pay for — either in Nigeria or through remote work.
I already have some exposure to tech and digital tools, but I’m open to focusing properly on one solid, marketable skill that has longevity beyond trends and will still be relevant in 2026 and beyond.
For those who:
have successfully learned a skill and are earning from it,
have switched careers later in life,
work in tech, digital roles, or hire people,
please, based on real experience, what skill would you honestly recommend someone focus on now if the goal is employability, stability, and long-term relevance?

I would propose skillset that you can use to help another business.

I'm personally going into full blown video editing (specifically reels and marketing videos) - as more people are getting into the creator industry, there be awesome opportunities for those who can brand and position themselves - that's if you're on the creative side.

Or you could learn Analysis if you're close to an academic setting - University, Teaching Hospital - you can get gigs helping with data analysis stuff - SPSS and shii.

Or niche digital marketing skills - Paid Ads and stuff.

Or just find what works for you

I just want to be sure this skill is actually sought after by companies or businesses and not just something people do for fun.
