This is a very honest reflection. Serving God sometimes comes with discomfort and sacrifice “endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3).
However, faith must walk hand in hand with wisdom, especially in a country like ours. God’s protection does not cancel personal responsibility. Thank God for preservation, and thank you for sharing a lesson many people need to reflect on, particularly during crossover nights.
Tell me how attending a cross over service has anything to do with serving God. Also, show me the verse where cross over was mentioned in the Bible.

Attending a crossover service is not a commandment, and it is not a measure of salvation. It is simply one of many ways people choose to express devotion, prayer, and reflection. The Bible does not mention “crossover services” by name, just as it does not mention online services, yet the principles remain.

Scripture encourages gathering, prayer, and thanksgiving (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). How those are expressed can differ across cultures and times. Serving God is broader than a single service; it is lived out daily in obedience, love, wisdom, and responsibility.

Some years ago, I was in FUTO. I left my lodge to an all night in ikenegbu. It was my state headquarters, I was a leader in the campus fellowship.

Nobody from FUTO came because obviously many students had gone back home. I didn't want to go home. I needed to use that time to pray and fast.

Service finished few minutes past 12. I asked to sleep in church since I couldn't actually be heading back to FUTO that night.

Omo, dem no gree me sleep. The painful part was that they knew me.

I had to sleep in front of one photo studio like that.

It was painful.

This was 9 years ago.

I Started thinking of the danger I exposed myself to that night. I'm grateful to God that I was protected. No evil happened that day.

However, I learnt a lesson. Not to tempt God in a country like Nigeria.

3 years ago, I decided I will stop attending the cross over night service.

Any service that can not last till at least 5 am, count me out.

I have stopped attending cross over services for 3 years now. I join online if I have the chance.
I'm a FUTOITE too... I wish you can tell me the name of your fellowship.. 9 years ago I was in 200L

I remember a particular year on a cross over night when Late Don Wani opened fire on people coming back from service. Killing many.

That was the beginning of his end.
Yeah. I've seen his story on IG before.

King Saul of Israel was rejected for this as he CHOSE what he will do instead of obedience to God! 1Samuel 15:22

For your information it's pagans that do celebrate a New Year not God's servants and God warned His worshipers never to imitate anything from idol worshipers! Deuteronomy 12:30

No gymnastics here. Christianity is not dare-devilism. The Bible teaches sacrifice and wisdom. Even Jesus avoided danger when His time had not come. Calling is discerned through obedience, counsel, opportunity, and fruit, not by online dares or mockery.
If every believer must prove faith by relocating to hostile nations, then parenting, integrity at work, charity, and everyday righteousness would mean nothing. Service is lived daily, not performed for applause.
So no christian is going to save the heathens in Afghanistan, abi? grin Despite the bible blessings that says he has given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions grin

Christians are already serving in difficult and hostile places across the world, often quietly, wisely, and at great personal cost. But the Bible never teaches recklessness as faith.

The authority Jesus spoke of (Luke 10:19) was given in the context of obedience to His sending, not self-assigned missions or internet bravado. Even Paul escaped danger when necessary (Acts 9:25), and Jesus Himself withdrew from hostile crowds when His time had not come (John 7:1).

Saving people is God’s work; Christians are vessels, not superheroes. Faith operates under God’s instruction, not human provocation.

Wish you a fruitful and more prosperous 2026.

Respectfully, those passages are being stretched beyond their context.

1 Samuel 15:22 addresses direct disobedience to a clear instruction God gave Saul, not voluntary acts of worship that God neither commanded nor forbade. There is no biblical command that says “Thou shalt not pray or give thanks at the turn of a calendar year.”

As for Deuteronomy 12:30, the warning was against adopting pagan worship practices and idols, not against marking time or offering prayers. The Bible itself acknowledges the passage of years and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1; Psalm 90:12).

A crossover service is not a doctrine, a commandment, or a requirement, it is simply a cultural expression of prayer and thanksgiving. Christians are free in such matters, as long as Christ is central (Romans 14:5–6).

Have a fruitful and more prosperous 2026.

What do you mean 'self assigned missions'? Are you saying no Christian has received any calls to go to Afghanistan? Which country is more dangerous for Christians than Afghanistan? So how many missionaries are there? You disturb countries with high Christian populations but ignore those ones with low Christian populations. If that is now cowardice,I don't know what it is. And this is despite all the bravado about gods power and might

Whatever is not founded on truth will fail. There is nothing called crossover night in the Bible so you can't expect humans to set up something that's not scriptural yet hoping it will be taken seriously as truth!😟
Lol... Una don come with this una zombie-like Christian ideology again, i.e. "it is not in the bible so therefore, it is wrong".

Even PRAYING and WORSHIPPING is now wrong to this ones because it wasn't recorded anywhere in the bible that someone prayed through the night into a new day/month/year.
