2026 Will Bring Renewed Hope, Stability - Akpabio Assures Nigerians by adenigga(op): 5:13am On Jan 01
The Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has expressed optimism that 2026 will mark a period of renewed hope, institutional stability and steady national progress for Nigeria.

In a New Year message issued on Wednesday and signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio said the outlook for the year ahead would be anchored on responsible leadership, strong institutions and collective national resolve.

He commended Nigerians for their resilience and civic maturity, particularly in the face of economic and security challenges, and reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to safeguarding democratic stability and promoting accountable governance.

“As we enter the year 2026, I extend my warm wishes to Nigerians for a peaceful and fulfilling year. I commend the resilience, patience, and civic maturity of our people, even in challenging times,” the Senate President said.

Akpabio noted that while the Executive arm of government continues to implement policies, the National Assembly remains firmly committed to its constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking, representation and oversight to ensure governance outcomes align with the aspirations of citizens.

According to him, the Senate will continue to provide legislative support where necessary, exercise oversight where required, and act in the best interest of national unity, economic stability and social justice.

He expressed cautious optimism that ongoing efforts to address insecurity, economic pressures, infrastructure deficits and youth unemployment would deliver more tangible results in the coming year, stressing that sustainable development depends on strong institutions rather than individual personalities.

“Our democracy is strengthened when institutions function properly and leaders remain accountable. The National Assembly will continue to work to strengthen these institutions and to ensure that public policy is people-centred and forward-looking,” Akpabio stated.

Looking ahead to heightened political activities as the country moves toward the 2027 general elections, the Senate President cautioned against divisive politics and what he described as false messianic narratives that could undermine national cohesion.

He warned that individuals who portray themselves as sole saviours often deepen divisions rather than resolve them, noting that democracy thrives on ideas, responsibility, accountability and respect for national unity.

Akpabio urged political actors to conduct themselves with restraint and a sense of national duty, assuring that the Senate would continue to uphold democratic norms, parliamentary discipline and the rule of law.

He also reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to constructive engagement with the Executive, the Judiciary and other stakeholders to build a more united, just and prosperous Nigeria.

The Senate President concluded by calling on Nigerians to remain hopeful, vigilant and actively engaged in democratic processes, while wishing citizens a peaceful and prosperous 2026.

Why should we wait for the never happening renewed hope of All Promises Cancelled, APC leaders looters when we can work for the return of Prosperity and Development Party, PDP?

PDP’s deregulation and privatisation capitalism policies gave us 16 years of high employment productivity before we allowed Tinubu to replace them with Buhari in 2015, which was four years after calling him expired!!!

Does this waist focused senate president want us to have renewed hope of looking for where to eat free food and die in stampedes, because Tinubu is clueless about creating jobs for earning a living in dignity huh

All looters will die mysteriously in 2026.
They will die before EFCC even arrests them.
All of you looting public funds will fall sick and no hospital in the world would be able to treat you.
All the people stealing national funds at the expense of citizens who are suffering daily, will meet untimely death and assorted illnesses.

AMEN.

How will God save us from these people if we don’t work together to reduce our tribesmen zoning and rotation mechanisms to choose political office holders in local, state and federal governments, both in the legislative and executive branches?

What happens to faith WITHOUT works is dead maxim? Are you trying to mock God and make Him a liar, which is what we allow our politicians to be huh

edet19892015:
Unless you understand your role in society, you can never make any meaningful contribution.

According to the Greeks, they are three types of people on Earth,
1. The idiots,
2. The tribesmen, and
3. The citizens.

Studies show only 10% of Africans are citizens.
The remaining 90% are either tribesmen or idiots.

1. When the Greeks used the word "Idiot", they did not use it as a curse word.
Idiots are people who just don’t care.
If they sit for exams, they will cheat.
If they are in government they will steal.

An idiot does not care at all, if he eats bananas he throws the peels anywhere instead of putting them in a trash bin.

IDIOTS won't attend monthly neighborhood meetings. They won't pay security dues. They won't contribute to community development. Even when they see or know about something that will harm others in the community they won't report it. When they see/know/have something that will benefit their community they won't share.

In fact, Idiots don't care to register for or vote in an election, yet they complain the most. If they register to vote, IDIOTS will sell their votes for peanuts.

According to the Greeks, some societies have more idiots than tribesmen and citizens.

2. The next set of people are "Tribesmen", these are people that look at everything from the point of view of their tribe.

These are people that believe in you only if you are part of their tribe.
It can be terrible to have a tribesman as a leader, he will alienate the rest.

When the Greeks talk about tribes, it’s not just about ethnicity, they also consider religion, gang membership, group membership, party membership and even cult membership as a tribe.

A great percentage of Africans are tribesmen, because they view everything from the point of view of their tribes. They trust only their tribesmen

3. The last group are "Citizens".
These are people who like to do things the right way.
They will respect traffic light rules even if no one is watching them.

They drive within speed limits.
They respect the laws, and won’t cheat in exams.
In government, they won’t steal.
They are compassionate and give to others to promote their well-being.

Citizens often promote projects that benefit everyone.
The Greeks called this group "The Citizens".

Some countries have more citizens than tribesmen and idiots, others have so many idiots.

A tribesman can become a citizen through orientation.
And an idiot can become a citizen by training and constant enforcement of the law.

But things fall apart if you elect an idiot or tribesman to lead you if he has not been reformed.

Where do you belong? Are you an idiot, a tribesman or a citizen? Reflect on your life.
Reflect about your immediate community, city, state and nation.

Since we got independence 65 years ago, how much of this type of prayer have we prayed?

Why has the prayer failed to make our country like Singapore that broke free from Malaysia five years after our own independence? Or like Qatar and UAE that got independence from Britain 11 years after us and one year after the Biafra war ended?

When did South Korea end its war with their North Korea neighbours? When did China abandon unhelpful communism to embrace deregulation and privatisation capitalism that led them to awesome economic success for widespread prosperity and peace?

Do you think that the people of these five countries pray more than Nigerians? Or what else is the secret of their recent development success huh

Neo-black Problem: Must Blacks Be Ruled by Whites in Order to Prosper?

In short, the neo-black dilemma may be framed as follows: is it better to live under white rule without political dignity but with basic life-sustaining standards for many;

or to live under black rule with illusory political dignity and without basic life- sustaining standards for the majority?

The path forward for Africa lies in cultivating higher and adequate levels of personal and communal agential integrity as well as full personal responsibility and productivity. Not to mention creativity (including epistemic creativity), productive justice (such as merit and freedom), harmony and reconciliation at local and international levels, and a proper domestication of capitalism and other related values and institutions.

Africa must stop wasting her time on dreams of socialism because it is a system of wealth distribution primarily. Whereas, capitalism is a system of wealth creation primarily, and wealth has to be produced before it can be distributed.

How much has Tinubu favoured those who prayed like this, with petrol rising to almost N1,000 instead of the crash promised by him, just like APC has been promising Nigerians since before 2015 huh

Deltafirstson:
Although the pump price of fuel was N197 when President Bola Tinubu took over on May 29, 2023, the product now sells for N617 per litre – less than two months after.

In his inaugural address, Tinubu announced that subsidy was gone, fulfilling a promise that all leading presidential candidates made during the campaign.

Nigerians have been lamenting the hardship occasioned by fuel price hike. Amid the lamentation, a video where Tinubu campaigned to slash the price of fuel went into circulation.

Checks by Daily Trust affirmed the authenticity of the video uploaded on the YouTube page of Channels Television.

At his campaign rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on January 25, 2023, Tinubu spoke on a number of issues, but those of fuel scarcity and naira redesign made the headlines.

However, Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language, also assured the crowd that though people were saying petrol price would hit N200, it would be reviewed downward under him.

“The great Nigerian youths, the great Nigerian students, the confident Nigerian youths. This is a revolution. This election is a revolution. They are plotting, but they will fail. They said fuel price will increase and reach N200 per litre. Go and relax, we will bring it down,” he had said in the 7th minute of the video.

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

Buhari’ll reduce petrol to N40/L —David-West

FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop in petrol price from the current N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.”
