New Tax Laws: Has Your Bank Account Been Restricted? by grandstar(op): 12:06pm On Jan 01
Today is the D-Day the new tax laws comes into effect

I intentionally withdrew a lot of cash out of fear my debit card would cease to work.

So, has anyone experienced any problems?

The planned restrictions was about TIN and that has been cleared because one's NIN number now serves as a tax number.

And all bank account holders has NIN,so, there's no more need to submit TIN,since their NIN number is now their tax identification number.

Therefore, there's no need for banks to restrict their customers accounts

It wasn;t a fallacy. I just searched on Google "Would bank accounts without TIN be restricted?" and got the results below:

In Nigeria, bank accounts for individuals deemed "taxable persons" are expected to face restrictions without a Tax Identification Number (TIN) as of January 1, 2026, as mandated by the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA), 2025. However, the process is largely automatic, and accounts for non-taxable individuals will not be restricted.

So, it wasn't something that I invented.

However, now that the issue has your NIN automatically be your TIN number, the issue has been resolved.

It was actually true but with your NIN now automatically your TIN numbers, it resolves the problem.

No, what you got online is an AI response, not the govt position.
AI feeds on available data, the data available in respect to the new tax law is the different media reports out there, with few sections of the law itself.
No govt official has ever announced that account will be restricted, neither has CBN nor banks
So, it wasn't something that I invented.

However, now that the issue has your NIN automatically be your TIN number, the issue has been resolved.

That was before it was decided that NIN would be used in place of the TIN.

Things like this are expected of uneducated people. It is painful when people like you behave this way.

What is really painful is when people like you don't know how to speak or address others. ( Read Collosians 4:6, 2 Timothy 2:24-25)

I have no regrets asking the question I asked. I was more interested in confirming things. It easier coming here to get firsthand information. I also wanted an engaging thread that everyone would enjoy and benefit from.

Like the other man, he got his advice from the madman at Upper Iweka now. He is not the only one. When a blind man follows another blind man they both end up in the ditch.
