Many Passengers Trapped, Feared Dead In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash On New Year Day

A fatal accident occurred on Thursday opposite the NASFAT junction along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with many passengers feared dead.

PUNCH reports that a video recorded by its staff member at the scene, Mrs Mercy Eboigbe, showed an 18-seater commercial bus travelling from Lagos ram into a truck which was reportedly making a U-turn near the NASFAT area.

The impact caused the bus to slide beneath the truck, trapping several passengers, while many others were left unconscious at the scene.

Eyewitnesses said emergency responders and residents were making frantic efforts to rescue victims as of the time of filing this report.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, said the command had been alerted to the crash but had yet to receive a full report.

Rescue operations were ongoing as of press time.

In a similar development, SaharaReporters recently reported that a fatal night-time crash claimed the lives of eight students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), raising growing concerns over student travel safety.

The accident, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. opposite Unity Bank along Zaria Road, involved a trailer and a bus conveying 11 students.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said seven victims were already lifeless when emergency teams arrived at the scene, while one more student later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to eight. The remaining three students, all male like the deceased, are currently receiving treatment.

The tragedy has plunged the university community into shock and has also renewed attention on the risks associated with late-night travel by students, particularly during examination and festive periods.

No bro
It is time we start holding these human beings accountable!
Haba!!!

For how long are we going to continue like this?

It rather should be the human beings are DEADLY!

look at the recklessness and carelessness written all over this accident!

Where were they rushing to?

Speed does not mean and should not mean you are the best driver,
Rather Safety should be the best rating

Speed is only meant for car racing sports such as formula 1 or the stunts in movies fast and furious.

Road safety don't care, FG don't care. Same story every year. They would blame the driver but the truth is the white know that every human don't like to obey law and that is why they put stringent rule for those kinda people and they follow it to the last. I wish it's our politicians that are always in this fatal accident. I pray that this year, they will be the ones involved for them to do the right thing.

If you see the over speed on that express road ehn, you will know it's accident waiting to happen.

It's like the fixing of that road was taken as license to drive to hell! Government should prosecute drivers involved in accident due to overspeeding.

Overspeeding, impatience and recklessness is too much on that road. I commute there virtually everyday.

That accidents don't happen even more frequently than this is a miracle.

All the while, I thought one of the foreigners was the driver.

Perhaps, the driver was high on liquor. They should investigate him very well for the records.

Over speeding in vehicles that are, almost always, non road worthy is a dangerous combination.
