The best thing to do now is to defer to fall 2026 or spring 2027.
If it’s 31st, No problem..

Go and get the stamp ✅✅

The Issuance Ceases on 01/01/2026 at 12:01am EST.

Please o, does anyone have any idea if this ban will also affect Nigerian permanent residents in Canada? cry

Getting a US visa as a Canadian PR from Nigeria used to be easy, but now idk again
Based on the proclamation, yes.if you're a Canadian PR you'd need your Nigerian passport to travel . So wow...the ban would affect you unless you get a visa before Jan 1st 2026

As a Nigerian student currently in the US on an F1 visa, is it advisable to travel to the UK and return to the USA on 30/12/2025 before the proclamation takes effect on 1/1/2026?

Has anyone gone for H1B/H4 stamping recently. I am in the US and I am planning on going back to do somethings and then go for my stamping on the 5th of January. I just wanted to know the situation of things as regards that. I heard visa appointments are be rescheduled in us embassies in India.
Additionally, what are the chances that Nigeria will me placed on travel ban?
Are you presently on h1b Change of status or you opted in for consular processing. If your approval is h1b change of status, you don’t need visa stamping to continue to work. Hmm, regarding the situation, some people might be lucky anyways. But be ready for anything that might come up like short or prolonged admin processing. Some people that went for visa processing from Nigeria had a smooth process but I can’t really say much. But I know someone who I is currently in the states but his wife in Nigeria has be on admin processing for h4 for more than 60 days. There is a lot of uncertainties presently. I pray it goes well and there is no delay considering the new vetting process extended to h1b. All the best

As long as your F1 is still valid and it is multiple entry visa

You'd have multiple entry F1 visa is you got your visa last yr or previous yrs

It’s been sorted out already. We had to cancel the check and paid via western union. I got the payment receipt on the website almost immediately.

Thanks to everyone for your contribution.

Am also in this same situation, please I want to ask if you contacted the school. I haven't contacted my schools yet.
yusman14:
I haven't been myself since yesterday that I read this. I'm a prospective graduate student planning to resume for fall 2026. I have spent money and put in alot of efforts, now all my dream of studying in the US has faded away.

I applied to more than 10 US schools and my recommenders submitted over 40 recommendations. All these efforts just in vain.

I have been depressed since yesterday.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Ose2988: 7:17am On Jan 02
Am in a similar situation too, all my applications are under "awaiting decision". I don't know if I should contact the school or not. Please can we connect, let me not just be alone. Thanks. oselin1988@gmail.com
yusman14:
All my applications are currently under review before the restriction. I read that it means they won't even bother to go through Nigerians admission documents, it's automatic rejection because of the VISA issue.

The people of like minds that I can talk to are currently processing admission too and we are all worried.

My environment? Those people aren't even approachable, their mentality is somehow. Just an environment full of yahoo boys and runs girls.

Thanks so much sir. I have started 5 Erasmus Mundus Scholarship application already.

But US is my best choice and first option.

We are writing to inform you of a recent update to U.S. immigration policy that may affect some members of our campus community.

On December 16, 2025, a new U.S. presidential proclamation was issued expanding entry and visa restrictions to citizens of additional countries. New visa restrictions will be effective beginning January 1, 2026, and citizens of additional countries will no longer be eligible for certain visas. Some of the countries are designated as a total ban, meaning that no new visas will be issued, and some are subject to a partial ban, meaning that only certain kinds of visas are affected. However, because citizens from countries with either designation will not be granted either a student (F-1) visa or exchange visitor (J-1) visa, we have combined the newly affected countries into a single list.

Angola
Antigua and Barbuda
Benin
Burkina Faso
Cote d’Ivoire
Dominica
Gabon
The Gambia
Malawi
Mali
Mauritania
Niger
Nigeria
Palestinian-Authority-issued travel documents
Senegal
South Sudan
Syria
Tanzania
Tonga
Zambia
Zimbabwe
Our understanding is that this ban is applicable only to nationals of these countries who are outside the U.S. and without a valid visa as of January 1, 2026. Individuals who are inside the United States on January 1, 2026, or who are outside the United States on that date but have a visa that is valid as of January 1, 2026, would likely not be covered by the ban.

If you are a citizen of one of the affected countries, these changes may impact future visa applications or travel plans.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update you as more details become available.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

To be honest, I won’t advise anyone to go for visa interview now. Especially if you don’t want to spoil your profile.

They state “except it is in the national interest”. Tell me how you want to prove it is In Their own national interest when they expect you to come back to Nigeria after your studies?

Omo, just book your visa interview to early July. And then hope that it will be lifted by then. It gets reviewed every 180 days (6 months).

I don't if F2 WHOSE husband is already studying in US can go. Date already book to January 26 before the proclamation news. I don't know if she can give it a try. Reschedule to July is no option because their visa (her and 2 kids) would have reached a year, and hence expired.

What do you think?

Let's be positive.
I'm sad, I'm just using the remaining energy in me to send cold emails to Canadian schools. I wanna get a supervisor first.

I haven't contacted any of the schools I applied to. I want them to reach out first.

They might wanna suggest that they will defer my admission to spring 2027 (Jan).

Efetobore1980:

Any visa applicant from the affected countries, who think he or she can run to any of The 5 - Eyes nation ( U.S.A, Canada, Australia, Newzealand & the UK) will definitely face the same visa debacle, because these countries are the world's strongest information sharing partners. If the U.S embassy has flaged you as a potential terrorist, then you are going no where into any of the 5 - Eyes.

As per Nigeria, the United States is only trying to force our leaders to do the needful regarding the security of lives of the citizens and others. This can be attest to in the recently joint-force (U.S Airforce & Nigerian forces) strike against Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa ( ISWAP).

In this respect, the temporary visa ban is going to be short lived , and those with ongoing visa or admission application process should continue with wisdom, and not yield to negative outlook.

Happy New Year 😎
I just hope Trump will remove Nigeria from the banned list by June.
I heard that it is always reviewed every 180 days.

Thanks for the tips. You sound very knowledgeable about how they operate, like bruv, you good grin

Anyways, the same course that I was denied visa studying(Nursing) was the same course I later studied back in Nigeria, after which I practiced in Nigeria, left for the UK, and I’ve been practicing as a UKRN. My sibling is here in the UK and I have a full time job. And honestly I don’t know how to answer questions regarding my previous denials, cos Mehn I don’t know why I was even denied visa the previous time. I answered all my questions correctly, yet I got denied back to back.

Then the second question I have is regarding to the choice of my program. Someone told me(however I don’t know how truthful it is) that going for MSc Nursing with CPT has high denial rate, that I should use a program that doesn’t have CPT and I use any health related program, that when I get to the USA, I can switch program with another school. Please how feasible is this?

Thanks alot
Please I have questions to ask sir

My sister wrote OSCE 3x last year. She already has her UKRN last year, just remaining few things to do for her to get a job

According to her, "UK is saturated now, more Nurses are flowing in. I'm thinking of paying someone to manage my job applications. That way it'll be faster, but it's expensive. The least I've seen is £150"

According to what I've been reading I don't think she needs to pay to secure job applications

Please am I wrong

Am also doing same, I have sent up to 80 mails so far, 2 responded that they are not taking students at the moment. Still waiting for the rest
