“While this disagreement was on, a lot of us were deceived into believing so many things that were not true,” Ewor said. “In other words, the governor deceived us. Rather than give us the true picture of things, we were led with propaganda and lies, making us believe that the governor would wrestle political control from Wike.”
politics is deception

Remove the president factor, Fubara will defeat Wike hands down. People don't like wikes attitude here in Rivers state.

Godfatherism exists all over the world. Others even have lobbyists and Super PACs. It is a choice. If you renege on an agreement you voluntarily entered into, there are consequences. When people want to justify their treachery, they start talking about the constitution.

This is politics. You can honour agreements without violating the constitution. It is not an excuse to not honour agreements. Even Fubara, has he not violated the constitution several times? Who told you he cares about the people? He is also serving the interests of a select few. Only gullible people think a treacherous person is serving their interests.
It is false to claim that godfatherism exists so over the world. Democracy itself detests the idea of godfatherism. Lobbyists and super PACs are not godfathers. Go and understand what both imply.
If an agreement says you answer to a person, how do you honour it without violating the constitution?
If Fubara violates the constitution, there are courts and the legislature to call him to order.
It's not about whether he cares for the people or not. It's about what the constitution that created the office of governor says
If caring for the people is one of the functions of the office of gov, it will be written there. The big issue is how you can please the godfather and still please the people

I'm still trying to understand this power tussle in Rivers.
Who has the power? Tinubu, Fubara, Wike, or Rivers power?
How many votes can Tinubu, Fubara or Wike cast?
Nobody talks about the electorates.
Is this even a democracy?
Why waste the taxpayers' money conducting elections when someone can stand up and promise the president or governor a specific amount of vote outcome?
Hmmm 🤔🤔🤔🤔

There is something deeply wrong with the mindset of people like you who believe that loyalty is owed to a former governor who steals billions from you and then uses it to hold permanent control of your commonwealth for his private gain. In saying you hate treachery, you really mean that the governor must submit to Wike, which simply means handover control of the treasury to him so that he can keep stealing from you. What kind of slavery and Stockholm Syndrome is this?

BondRiv:

What agreement? Can you tell us what the agreement was?
You know it is an agreement to hand over the treasury to Wike as well as all authority in the State. Is that not illegal?

Re: Fubara Deceived Us, Boasted Tinubu Would Force Wike To Support His Reelection’, by Fido24: 11:00am On Jan 02
There is no way the soo called goodfather will allow any soo called political godson to contest election without first putting them into some unholy agreements, as if, he the godfather is the state. so to rest power from the godfather, is to apply wisdom and accept their terms and you get to the office, obey the constitution you pledged to uphold and keep your agreements with the people of the state and not with any godfather.
The godfather himself never keep agreement he enter in writing with his party and other aspirants.

in summary, the godfather is not greater that the state and the constitution of the state. and whatever agreement they may have that is contrary to the law of the land is null and avoid.

Kukutente23:
But the office holder is just one person
Godfatherism is built on two legs
1st is a hierarchy which is sustained by loyalty to a person and not the state. That in itself conflicts with the constitution
Secondly is that the godfather intends to perpetuate himself in office regardless of the voice/ votes of the populace. That again is in conflict with the constitution
So even if a man out of lust for power accepts to shackle himself with godfatherism, the populace are duty bound to reject it because it leads to them be on the losing side instead of being at the centerpiece of govt

You clearly have a problem with comprehension. I stated that others even have lobbyists and super PACs, which are additions. I never stated it was the same. There are different forms of control and influence. Godfatherism is one, then I stated others. Learn how to read and understand.

Now, regarding what democracy detests. You are fighting for an ideal, I'm talking about the reality prevalent in every country practising democracy.

It is also a fact that Fubara has violated our laws and constitution several times. Our courts have also told him that, from the Federal High Court all the way to the Supreme Court.

Support Fubara how you want, but don't come to me with an air of sanctimonity.

Why did he agree to those agreements when he knew he won't honour it?Just deceiving everyone even his supporters.
If APC is trusting him sorry oo,because he may even be supporting ADC and still be shinning teeth with them.
If you sign agreement keep to it.Infact they should make public the agreement he assigned.
With most of the political stakeholders in the state kicking against him,APC should not make that mistake.

It's shameful that Rivers people cannot fight godfatherism. Oshomole tried it in Edo against Obaseki, the People resisted him. Obaseki tried it again forgetting how the people fought for him and the said no again. It's a shame that Rivers people have allowed one single individual who is a serving minister in far away Abuja to turn their state to a war zone. Its so sad.

The topic is godfatherism not other forms of control and influence
The reality is still that Wike and the House have constituted themselves to a stumbling block to governance in Rivers
No matter what anyone thinks of Fubara, we know those who are derailing the governance of the state. Those are the effects of godfatherism I highlighted so you see that I'm talking reality not ideal
You also failed to mention the fact that the judgement of the FHC was in spite of an agreement to withdraw all cases in court

Is Wike still wanting to be a governor, why can't he moved on and allow Rivers state to have peace. Is he the first person to be betrayed? Why is he so intoxicated with power to the point that, he forgets that there is tomorrow

I addressed the aspect of godfatherism, and then went ahead to broaden your horizon. I am not to be blamed for your restricted intellect. While I am here, I will continue to educate people like you on politics and other subject matters.

I suggest you read those judgements and stop wailing. Be informed.

You only engaged in strawman arguments only to drop out when it was exposed
The fact still remains that godfatherism does not portend any good for society
The idea of an agreement outside the constitution is inimical to democracy and you as a lawyer should know this especially

Wike must obey Fubara eventually.

Both Wike and Tinubu will be retired in 2027
If you are waiting for the polls, then you may be disappointed. Because the way Wike them dey plan, Fubara fit no win primaries.
Rather, Magnus Abeg sef go win am since he be the same senatorial district as Fubara. They still have Senator Barinada Mpigi one side.

Both Fubara and Wike are working for the reelection of Tinubu, so any favour that will bring is struck out. The battle is beyond nairaland and Facebook.
