Nigeria Safer Than US – American Rapper, DDG by seunmsg(op): 11:41am On Jan 02
American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., also known as DDG, has described Western media propaganda on Nigeria as “fake”.

The hip-hop musician, who is now on vacation in Lagos, stated that contrary to Western propaganda, Nigeria is “nowhere near” as dangerous as the United States.

He urged foreigners to visit Nigeria to see things for themselves.

Speaking in a video broadcast, DDG said, “I honestly think America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near.

“No doubt, there is insecurity in Nigeria. But gun violence and gangsterism is not common in Nigeria as in America. So, if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up.”

DDG also said that he was taught Nigerian foods were unhealthy and that he should always boil water before drinking in Nigeria.

He claimed that, contrary to popular belief, Nigerian food, particularly jollof, are extremely nutritious.

Having spent enough years residing in America and in Nigeria, I disagree 100% with the opinion expressed by this rapper who claims that the USA is more dangerous than Nigeria. If the rapper had claimed that GHETTOES in America are more dangerous than Nigeria, his statement would be factual due to the prevalence of "Saturday Night Special" cheap and disposable $50 handguns in most American ghettoes, where the gang and drug culture has decimated generations of semi-educated black Americans.

From coast to coast USA, the odds of falling victim to gang violence drop off steeply as soon as one leaves the inner-city ghetto, and moves into any middle class suburb, even if that safe haven is just a few blocks from the ghetto's boundary lines.

In Nigeria, however, there is NO "safe neighborhood" because kidnappers and armed robbers can strike anywhere and any time, against any and all Nigerian citizens who cannot afford to have armed police guards. When driving along any highway in Nigeria, the risk of getting ambushed and kidnapped that is prevalent all over Nigeria, simply does NOT exist in ANY American city or rural area.

Unless one is wealthy and connected enough to charter helicopters for routine inter-city travel in Nigeria, literally ANY road trip could wind up becoming a one-way trip into hell. The absence of any such ambush danger along ALL highways in the USA , taken as a single factor of consideration, makes Nigeria orders of magnitude more dangerous than any part of America, including the Deep South.

More than likely, the American rapper visiting Nigeria spent his entire holiday in an up-scale area like Lekki or Victoria Island in Lagos, and on noting that there was no gunplay as is a normal occurrence in American ghetto night clubs, concluded WRONGLY that the entire nation of Nigeria must be safer than his ghetto "hood" stateside.

What an exaggerated nonsense.

Tens of millions live in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Ibadan, Enugu and several other towns and cities in Nigeria and carry on their daily business and activities. How many of them are actual victims of violent crime on a daily basis.

Outside of the terrorist activities in the northern part of the country, crime is not a daily experience of the overwhelming majority of Nigerians.

You are safer in many parts of Lagos or Abuja than you would be in many parts of London.

Lagos is outrightly safer than Detroit, Memphis, St Louis, Baltimore, Cleveland, Oakland, and many parts of Chicago and Philladephia.

That is not to say everything is honky dory here, but there is some definite truths in what the American rapper said.

My experience in Nigeria has been DRAMATICALLY different from yours, sir, and I will leave it at that.

Then, tell the foolish rapper to relocate to Maiduguri, Kwara or Zamfara since Nigeria is safer than the US
Re: Nigeria Safer Than US – American Rapper, DDG by Babatunjo: 1:38pm On Jan 02
True.

I always tell my friends: your quality of life is not location-dependent.
There are many people in the US, UK, and elsewhere living worse lives than a lot of people here in Nigeria.
Same thing the other way around.

We don’t hear of school shootings or gun violence in Nigeria like in America.

But in terms of economic power and opportunity, USA na baba.

Go say that in the north or you drive from the south west through yagba in kogi and hit kaduna road ,alone in the night
Re: Nigeria Safer Than US – American Rapper, DDG by Rootprof(m): 1:39pm On Jan 02
Let him stop using security guards on Nigeria soil... Enter street with this your wristwatch and ring, you will know what's up. Definitely some areas are safe in Nigeria but the insecurity increase is alarming. Now traveling during day time is with prayers not to talk of traveling at night.

Many things that happen in normal daily life (like neighbors fighting or police encounters or bumping into someone on the street) which country do you think will lead to shooting?

I think DDG is right.
For example the neighborhood of the late rappers such as King Von, Lil JoJo and FBG Duck in Chicago na war zone for trigger happy hit men/women that are drill rappers.
ISWAP and Boko haram go dey fear to operate in such neighbourhood.

Sounds like a smart response.
But there are many people living in Nigeria who are better off than some people in the US, UK, or Canada.

There are people living well in Nigeria... and living well elsewhere too.

Once you rise to a certain level in life, your quality of life becomes largely location-independent, wherever you go.

No need to argue, make him buy flight ticket, come Nigeria, pay 1 month rent for Benue, Plateau or Southern Kaduna, Kogi, kwara or ondo state. No need for too much talk

We know the format. He probably has a song with Burna Boy or Wizkid coming out soon and needs the streaming numbers. Tell him to stop the 'I love Nigeria' wash. Once his data finish or he experiences one week of 'Hold Up' and NEPA taking light, he will fly back to LA and start calling us a 'Third World Jungle.' Typical clout chaser.
