Don't stress yourself.
Ignore the comments telling you to learn manual because if you learn it and don't drive it actively, it is equal to learning with automatic.

I learned and drove manual for years.
I am not sure I have seen anyone around me drive one in the past 7yrs. If the need will come up one day, I don't know.
u see how u sabi beat about bush? cool

I learnt with manual.

I thought it was useless until the day there was an emergency, and someone was needed to drive a bus.

Meanwhile, driving a bus or truck is different ball game.

But the little knowledge I had about driving manual cars saved the day.

My own problem is that I have learnt manual driving almost on three occasions. Each time I finished learning, the next vehicle I would get is an automatic transmission. Because of that, I still can't drive manual vehicles. But you see automatic vehicles?? I dey fire am yangayanga!

I’m about to start driving lessons and I’m unsure whether to learn manual or automatic.
For those who started with manual, was it hard at first? How long did it take you to finally get hold used to it? Do you think it gave you an advantage later, or would you advise a beginner to start with automatic instead?
The aim of engineering design is to make life easier and more easier, why will you take yourself back when you are in the era of technological advancement, just enjoy it, you only riding on the soldier of those that had gone before you!

No need to learn how to drive at all.....since the next generation vehicles are self driven. If you ask for my opinion learn Manual first
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by 123readygo:
Yes it was.
Back in the 90’s when I learnt how to drive there were no automatic cars in Nigeria then.
The feelings are not the same, with manual, I can determine my rate of acceleration from the starting point but with automatic, you have to obey your car

Go to driving school and tell them you want to learn. They will always use manual. No point asking many questions. Follow the status quo.
This is not entirely true

Where I learnt, there is manual option and automatic option.
Infact, them go even they advice you to learn automatic cos according to them, in nearest future, manual cars will go extinct

And I used to enjoy and preferred manual transmission o...

It was more engaging and exciting. The part I hated was driving it in traffic.

Automatic can make someone fall asleep o especially when driving long highways.

All of a sudden manual just seems outdated and out of place and rare to find. It's more exciting!
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by wamide042(m): 2:46pm On Jan 02
Learn how to drive Manual, it will help you in the future.
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by E2000: 2:46pm On Jan 02
Manual is harder and more demanding. If you want to drive a big long vehicle Automatic is better and protects your life span Manual in trailers is a silent killer and may impact your health

It’s like suggesting that one should learn to use the four figure table, so they can appreciate excel and graphing calculators!

Of what use is learning manual when technology has advanced to the point that manual cars are being phased out? Except you plan to be a danfo bus driver, of what use is it to learn manualhuh
I have never even seen an uber driver using manual sef
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by jaxxy(m): 2:47pm On Jan 02
If ure a driving enthusiast then yes it's worth it to learn. But u can be a good driver without learning manual drive but u understand and appreciate the gear system more having that manual knowledge background.

Learn both... BUT start with the manual transmission in order to understand the fundamentals of driving.

I drive manual and automatic, but to be honest, I prefer automatic transmission. Manual transmission is torture. Why suffer yourself when technology has made driving easy?
Honestly.

learn manual cos it's harder, there's no big deal about automatic cars.

Let me break down d difference to u

Manual
U control
Steering
Gear
Clutch n others
Funny enough, I am good with manual. I have just driven automatic once. I wonder if it will be easier going with automatic.

Manual is fun sha! A real driver is a manual driver.

In auto u only control steering, no clutch n no problem with gear cos once u put am for Wetin u want na so u go drive am reach Kaduna.

But if na manual, there are rules

Once u want to move, it's gear 1 n so many basics

Learning manual in 2025 is like learning how to use Abacus instead of calculator. 90 percent of cars are automatic. I learnt with manual but I've not driven one in over a decade. Except you're a race car driver or a truck driver just learn automatic jeje
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by Kalulu44: 2:58pm On Jan 02
If you don learn manual then you don automatically learn the two.
But if you learn just automatic, then you still have extra lesson for driving

I'm sure that doesn't include Europe and Australia.

I advice you learn both because that was what I did, no knowledge is lost.

My friends always laugh whenever I tell them I enjoy manual more, I love any task that keeps my brains always engaged and that's what manual transmission gives you.
Re: Those Who Learned Manual Driving, Was It Worth It? by Biodun1929(m): 2:58pm On Jan 02
Of cos it was worth it. I was at a party a while ago and when it was time to go, I saw this guy doing stretches. He was having muscle pull and couldn't drive. There was no one else at the party that could drive manual, even though they were going his way. I was the only one else that could drive manual at the party and I was going his way. If you see how they held me in high esteem as if I was one magician when I was diving the car. Lol.

So, yes, it was worth it. Also, I love driving manual sometimes...I love the power that it gives when you're in full control while driving it. It's just something about it i can't explain.
