You’re capping nonsense. Is VAT a new tax? If she had made the same purchases last year, would she not have paid the exact same amount as VAT? So, why will any manufacturer increase price in January over a VAT law that has been in effect since the 90’s?

Again, are you aware that with effect from 1st of January, 2026, Company Income Tax has reduced from 30% to 25%? So, will manufacturers whose CIT has been reduced force any price increment on their customers? Does that make any sense? Are you even aware that companies with an annual turnover of < 100m are now fully exempt from CIT? So, why will such companies push any increment to customers?
I am surprised that many people believe this is a new tax. Nigerians have always paid Value Added Tax (VAT), and it was during the Buhari administration that the VAT rate was increased to 7.5 percent. As Taiwo Oyedele rightly stated, this is not the introduction of a new tax regime. Unfortunately, it is the so-called influencers who are misrepresenting the facts and attempting to rubbish the entire tax reform conversation.

If she has been paying this high VAT, why is she now crying out loudly?

Some people just support evil because it's done by their people.
One of the reasons, these people (influencers) making money on top of poor people like you, they know how to post irrelevant to attract criticisms from eternal wailers.

...... You don't think she can post this, just to draw trrafic and make more money, since, she knows, that is kind of news you people please to hear.

In her post and pic concerning the VAT, did she tell you what she bought ? How can you verify authenticity of her claim, yet, she had achieved her plan, by getting traffic on her content.

Do you known a business?
Because if you did, you won't utter this comment. There's no way a business will pay extra for the NTA(New Tax Act), they will push it to the end-users, it has always been like that. So your comments are very invalid. The companies that are making >100 million nkor?
They would definitely push for any increments. And which companies dominate the markets in Nigeria? Your guess is a bad as mine, or is it?

You make 6m but don't want to pay less than 10% tax. And you want to be like UK and US. We never ready.

Vote ADC and lets see if they will revert the tax.

Tinubu do this one and it will definitely lead to better economic growth

It is the poor masses that will suffer this. If the cost of your services is say 1m add 20% to it . Cost of everything will drive up. At the end civil servants ask for wage rise , cost of living increase, value of naira drops government realises they don't have the money they envisaged like removing subsidy.
Tinubu thought removing subsidy would make more money available to him but ended up having more money that couldn't do as much as the equivalent of that same amount before the removal of subsidy. Penny wise pounds foolish.

Listen carefully as well. If you are not aware that the 7.5 percent VAT has been in effect since the Buhari administration, then you need to read more. I have personally been charged 7.5 percent VAT consistently since 2020. This is not new information. People should take the time to understand facts for themselves rather than relying on noise. So-called influencers are not smarter than you most times; they are simply louder. I s

Taxing people very high doesn't lead to economic prosperity. If this fellow knew he would be taxed as.much he would charge more than he did. This will create a relay effect as well on other factors of production as well. If you don't produce you can never tax your people to gain rich.

This is BS!
How much is 100M Turnover? Not Profit!!
Turn Over is just Annual SALES.
If we divide 100M by Twelve Months, that is less that 8.5M Turnover in a Month. Again, this is not profit!
By the time a Company removes the Cost of Rent, Cost of Electricity/Diesel, Staff Salaries, Insurance, Office Stationaries, Vehicle Maintenance and Fueling in a Month, please, tell me how much of that 8.5M turn over is remaining? shocked

It is just like when Govt started yapping that if you earn less that 800K, you wont be taxed.
And l asked: How much is 800K per Annum? is that not just someone earning #67K approximately?
That is even below the Minimum Wage, for Christ sake.

So, if you earn 70K per Month, you will be taxed by this Government.
Now, what can 70K do for a Family man who has to pay Rent, Electricity, Transport to Work, Feeding, School Fees, Clothing, etc?
That Money is not even enough for a Single guy to live on for a Month and yet, here we are, Govt is boasting that they have made life easy for somebody earning #67K per Month (80K/year), as they wont be paying tax!

Banks are now charging left, Right and Centre, claiming they are adhering to Govt directives, l am sure we have all received that they Letter, in our Inbox.
First, Government claimed that they want us to go Cashless and started taxing Cash withdrawals, saying it is cheaper to go cashless.
Now, they have started taxing the Online Transactions, from WHT, SMS Charge, Over 10K charge, etc

You People just want to Kpai Poor Nigerians, right? Isooright

It would affect the poor more than the rich
Manufacturers, CEOs etc, they would be forced to increase prices of their produced commodities and services, even importers
This would drastically increase prices of things in the coming days
Come of that, you increase your price it reduce your turn over... It we Nigerian that turn this thing up in the Name of influencer... Una think say them no dey see us, Peller was on interview when he said he earn more than 30million a week they take it as yard stick... So let now come down to your own concern about price... If what you produce is not a everyday commodities you better dont affect your small scale business just register it and if you don't make 50million per year no tax...

Ignorance is bliss...but confident ignorance is amusing.

Most of them seem not to understand how this works.

Even those supporting it will soon start wailing when the reality dawns.

They forget the 800k cap is annual not daily.

Price of everything you buy will increase again including your bread, detergent, food... everything

Meanwhile, the Businesses that collect VAT, government better follow them up, else the wereys no go remit, but be adding vat as their business gain - Nigerians are that corrupt - all of us.

My own question: What does the VALUE ADDED in VAT mean?
value added to thief. That is to say, a thief that can only steal 1billion before will now have enough to steal 1trillion

The VAT is not a new development. It's always been there.

She hasn't been previously paying VAT or that business hasn't been charging VAT.

Since 1927, some people have been having Aba women's riot because of tax. They are historical tax defaulters but they can run to regions where people pay tax and enjoy amenities there.
That has ended.
