US now deciding what’s next for Venezuela, says Trump

Trump has said he watched the operation “like I was watching a television show” … noting the “speed” and the “violence” of the raid.

He said the US is now deciding what’s next for Venezuela after Maduro’s capture.

He said the US will be “very strongly involved” in Venezuela’s oil industry, adding that “we ‌have the greatest oil companies in the ‌world, the biggest, the ‌greatest, and we’re going to be very much ‌involved in it.”

Trump said the raid was a “signal we’re not going to be pushed around”.

Maduro was captured from a highly guarded “fortress”, adding that a “couple of guys were hit, but they came back, and they’re supposed to be in pretty good shape”.

He said the US will not allow anyone to take over where Maduro “left off”.

Trump says the US will look at whether the leader of the opposition should lead, but acknowledged, right now, they have a vice president in charge.

UN chief says US attacks carry ‘worrying implications’

A spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has released a statement expressing deep “alarm” about the “escalation” in Venezuela, including potential breaches of international law.

The latest US attacks on Venezuela “carry potential worrying implications for the region,” said Stephane Dujarric.

“Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent.”

Dujarric said Guterres “continues to emphasise the importance of full respect – by all – of international law, including the UN Charter. He’s deeply concerned that the rules of international law have not been respected.”

Brazil’s Lula says US crossed ‘unacceptable line’

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has denounced the US for committing a “serious affront” to Venezuela’s sovereignty that threatens regional peace.

“The bombings in Venezuelan territory and the capture of its president cross an unacceptable line,” Lula wrote in a post on X, saying they threaten “the preservation of the region as a zone of peace”.

He said the US attacks recall “the worst moments of interference in the politics of Latin America and the Caribbean” and urged the UN to “respond vigorously”.

Russia calls on US to release Maduro
Russia, a strong ally of Venezuela, has called on the US to free Maduro and his wife.

“In light of confirmed reports that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife are in ‌the United States, we strongly urge the American leadership to ‌reconsider its position and ‌release the legally elected president of a sovereign country and his ‌wife,” said Russia’s Foreign Ministry in a statement.

Trump said the US will be “very strongly involved” in Venezuela’s oil industry, adding that “we ‌have the greatest oil companies in the ‌world, the biggest, the ‌greatest, and we’re going to be very much ‌involved in it.”

UN Secretary- General said “Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent.”

Welcome to the world view of Donald Trump where might is right.

From Palestine to China to Turkey to ISIS in Syria to Lebanon, Mexico, Iran, China, Denmark and now Venezuela, he singlehandedly took the US back to the pre-9/11 era where US citizens are endangered all over the world.

China and Russia are taking notes for Taiwan and Ukraine respectively.

U can see reasons why tinubu SABI government. If na that eluupiii and ADC (ABU...) now U.S for don invade Nigeria.
Both of them has been acting immature since 2023. They can't coordinate their party not to talk of the whole Nigeria.
Many Nigerians could have suffered thru trump if any of the two be president.
Bcus I know none of the two will attack north bcus of second term.

venezuela maduro is not innocent either. apart from engaging in drug activities, he has consistently rigged elections and refused to step down. he set back democracy in venezuela and i cant pity him. USA is the nemesis of dictators that have refused to allow their citizens prosper.
If you are a good leader your country would rally behind you and fight to the end. The primary problem usa has with maduro is his engagement in drugs that are killing americans, if it was about the oil, maduro has consistently begged america to come on board and take the oil. i have seen videos of him begging trump to have dialogue with him and he would allow american companies participate in venezuelas oil. But the issue here is that maduro was enthroned into power by drug cartels for them to have a free hand in smuggling drugs to the usa, unfortunately that is something trump can not tolerate and he shouldnt because he is a patriotic leader

Power almost always come with some measure of criminality. It all depends on where you stand. Maduro who got to power in Venezuela over 12 years ago is not exactly a saint. Life is life, just understand your options and keep moving.

The US Congress have already set in motion Trump's impeachment while the Judiciary is also set to jail him for blatant disobidience of court orders, after his impeachment he is heading straight to jail, the only option available for Trump is start a senseless war that would keep him in power for as long as the war lasted, eventually, his assassination will be the last card on deck.

All Trump is doing now is the last kick of a dying horse.
