JUST IN: General "Raizin" Caine gives a detailed breakdown of the U.S. attack on Venezuela, says they were so detailed that they knew what Maduro ate and where his pets were.

- 150 aircraft involved.

- U.S. forces arrived at Maduro's compound at 1;01 a.m.

- Helicopters came under fire, but "replied with that fire with overwhelming force and self-defense."

- Maduro and his wife gave up and were taken into custody.

- The youngest crew member was 20, and the oldest crew member was 49.

- Preparation took several months.

- "Those in the air over Caracas last night were willing to give their lives for those on the ground and in the helicopters."

This whole Venezuela situation also showed how important it is for weak countries to avoid grandstanding.

Weak countries have to understand their place, and there's nothing wrong with that.

When the US and Trump was accusing Nigeria of Christian genocide, our President and political leaders especially the NSA and Foreign Ministry handled the situation very well and commendably.

Nigeria understands our place, we know we depend on the US economically and Militarily, there was no Grand standing, posturing or signaling.

We understood clearly from the start the US is powerful and we are not and we towed the diplomatic line.

I think had more to do with VP Shettima’s condemnation of Israel at the UN assembly than Nigeria’s interest in joining BRICS. Nigeria has always expressed interest in joining the BRICS bloc since the Buhari administration of which Trump did not set his gaze on the security situation of the country. Even when Nigeria became a partner nation of BRICS in January 2025, he didn’t say anything.
The moment VP Shettima berated Israel at the UN assembly and called for a recognition of an independent Palestinian state, BOOM!!!, orange man-child declared Nigeria a state of particular concern. Called us a disgraced nation and claimed there was a Christian genocide. Same way he tried to play white farmers genocide card against South Africa
Mind you, Nigeria has been fighting insecurity since 2009 which mainly affected the Northern part which is predominantly Muslim. Trump was the 45th USA president from 2017 till 2020, throughout his first term he did not for once bat an eye over Nigeria’s security situation.

Trump is jst a dictator that violate US and international law, the illegal operation wasn't even approved by the congress.

The Rand at R7 to the dollar was massively over-valued and a lingering consequence of the Apartheid siege economy which effectively ran 2 exchange rates and manipulated the value of the currency.
Every single decent economist will tell you the ideal rate for the Rand is around R18-R20 to the dollar. This is because we are an exporting economy and at that range, our goods are cheap enough to compete with our peers.
Our major imports are oil and machinery, and are easily affordable at that range, provided that the price of crude doesn't exceed $100.
If we didn't make stuff and relied on imports, then yes, a strong Rand would be an imperative. I do not mind a weaker rand forcing me to pay more in US$ terms for my overseas holidays, because it also means VW in the US will buy more parts from my mate who employs 500 people in PE, rather than from Australia or Europe.

You're right that our economy needs better stewardship, but the currency is not evidentiary support for that assertion. Especially because its value is solely determined by the market, being one of the world's most traded currencies.
Perhaps if you highlighted 4 or 5 worsening indices/areas of the SA economy that point toward "crisis", I'd be better able to respond.

I agree, except I wouldn't say the rand has ever been overvalued in fact for the good part of 15 years its been one of the most undervalued currencies in the world.

I would also say there is definitely an improvement on all fronts of our economy, probably not as drastic as what we want but we are moving in the right direction.

Certain policies that I think appeal to his sudden popularity(although I'm very suspicion, like Bell Potinger suspicious) Calls to bring back the death penalty, very strong stance on illegal immigrants and border control, seen as an anti corruption hero, performance as the minister of correctional services, people are so gatvol for the ANC they will vote FF+ to make a point

Things that should hurt his campaign wrt to black voters but seems to be ignored, The FF+ is unapologetically a minority Afrikaner party, strongly against EWC, Strongly against BEE, strongly for the right of self determination(probably will actually get some Zulu support for this) especially for Afrikaners, Free Market capitalists, for privatization of SOEs

Seems like people just want to get so far away from the ANC they want to vote for the party that is the least like the ANC grin

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded notable progress in its fleet modernisation drive as the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, engaged the Leonardo Aircraft Division in Milan, Italy, on the M-346 fighter ground attack aircraft programme. Describing the programme as a critical leap in renewing the NAF’s combat capability, the CAS noted that the M-346 platform will significantly enhance precision strike operations, improve advanced training outcomes, and strengthen Nigeria’s regional deterrence posture through synchronised delivery and seamless induction into operational service.

The visit to Italy, held between 19 and 20 January 2025, formed part of a broader strategic engagement with Leonardo, including high-level interactions with the Leonardo Helicopter Division. The engagements, undertaken alongside the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Defence and Finance, other senior government officials, and senior NAF officers, underscored the priority placed by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on airpower modernisation and defence–industrial cooperation as central pillars of national security. During the visit, Air Marshal Aneke commended Leonardo’s professionalism and longstanding support to the NAF, noting the vital role of platforms such as the AW-109 Trekker Type B helicopters in ongoing counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and internal security operations.

The CAS further highlighted the proven operational record of Leonardo platforms in NAF service, including the G-222, ATR-42, and various AW-109 helicopter variants, which have delivered dependable performance across combat operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and other national support tasks. He emphasised the importance of timely aircraft delivery, structured training, and the establishment of a Leonardo Support Office in Nigeria to enhance aircraft availability, reduce turnaround time, and strengthen long-term sustainment. Responding on behalf of Leonardo, Mr Andrea Mirteto, Senior Vice President, Sales, Leonardo Helicopter Division, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria as a trusted strategic partner.
