Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jamiu Azeez has responded to growing backlash from sections of the Muslim community following claims that he converted from Islam to Christianity.

The Yoruba movie star addressed the controversy after a video of him attending a church crossover service surfaced online, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The controversy began after Jamiu shared a video showing himself dressed in a white garment while attending a church crossover service.

The post quickly went viral, with some social media users, particularly from the Muslim community, questioning his faith and urging him to change his name following the alleged conversion.

The video generated mixed reactions, with fans defending his right to personal choice while critics accused him of abandoning his religion.

On Sunday, January 4, Jamiu Azeez took to social media to respond to the criticism.

He shared screenshots of messages and comments he received, revealing the intensity of the backlash and direct messages questioning his religious identity.

Reacting to the situation, the actor wrote:

“It’s only in Nigeria people are so bothered about another person’s life. Imagine telling a man in his 40s how to live his life. I posted myself in white garment on the crossover night and mehn, the comments I have been reading on blogs, especially on Facebook, are crazy. Some even came to my DM to drag me. I can choose to practise any religion and that should not be anyone’s problem. I never even came out to say I have converted.”

Jamiu further emphasized that his faith remains a personal matter and that he should not be judged based on appearances or assumptions.

In a sarcastic follow-up remark, he added:

“No worry, I go wear babalawo cloth tomorrow.”

His response has since sparked further debate online, with many Nigerians calling for tolerance and respect for personal freedom, while others continue to question the actor’s religious stance.

Arabic is a language, just like the way you're fluent in English. Anyone can speak it if you learn it
