Nigeria is not a rich nation and we all know why our people Japa. Meaning many may need some State assistance to settle when they reach their overseas destinations.

Yet, in no time, many Nigerians go on, be it in the UK or USA, to begin paying back by supplying high value professionals (in fields like Medicine, Engineering, IT etc) to their host nation.

I don't know the hate in the heart of some of you for Nigeria that can now make you begin denigrating Nigerians presence overseas whereas the rest of the world actually laud the successes of Nigerians for their capacity to contribute massively to the professional job sector of their host nations overseas.

It says a lot about the character of people like you that you ignore the positives related to Nigerian migration overseas whereas many non Nigerians are full of praise for that positive contribution of Nigerians to their nation.

After about 40 years of living and interacting with Nigerians in the US, I hardly know anyone on public assistance. I have never applied for or gotten any public assistance except for student financial aid while in college.

Even when things were so easy to get these benefits, I didn't know of Nigerians getting them. Not to talk of now that all these benefits are pretty difficult to get.

A lot of the ignorant and uninformed kids on NL might be supporting this PD file, thinking that foreigners are the ones collecting these benefits, hence, Trump is justified. That's a lie.
The vast majority of people on welfare in the US are the same low-educated people in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky and other Republican dominted States.

The States that usually vote democratic are usually the most educated and the richest - Cali, Mass, NY etc.

SO, while Trump is trying to make welfare a major issue, his supporters are the majority on welfare, but he won't call them out because they are white. End of story.


The people who voted for Trump are the ones who constitute the majority of people on welfare. The same people who always vote Republican are some of the poorest in the US.

How did you come to this conclusion? It certainly can't be from inspection of the facts presented because Bhutan is highest with 81.4 percent of their immigrants to the USA needing State benefit .

Whereas Bermuda is lowest with 25.5% of her immigrants getring benefits.

How can anyone, except a self-hating Nigerian, say Nigerians are "generally lazy and unhealthy" when 33.3% of Nigerians, not significantly higher than the lowest figure of 25.5%, receive welfare Benefits?

In which Western nation, Whether UK or USA, have you noted Nigerians being termed "lazy" rather than "hardworking, motivated, achievers, talented, driven, inspirational, brilliant" etc?

What state do you reside in? The major Blue States pay out welfare to ANYONE who asks, they're continually looking for ways to tax workers and pay out benefits 😉

I've lived in the USA for decades also and the stats are true. Most especially for Nigerian immigrants who arrived in the last 10 to 15 years, starting around the Obama Presidency.

I know personally multiple Nigerian immigrant families on welfare. For example in Boston, Massachusetts, a husband and wife with 3 children arrived maybe 5 years ago and is collecting over $4K per month in benefits.

I know an oil & gas engineer who arrived in Houston in 2014 on a type of temp work transfer called secondment. When it was time to return to Nigeria he absconded with his family. The had an ANCHOR BABY here and went onto welfare with free housing and all.

Today they're LEGAL RESIDENTS and probably citizens. The wife is a nurse and the husband is back in the oil industry.

Nigerian ELDERLY Nigerian citizens who become citizens are AUTOMATICALLY enrolled into Social Security and get retirement pay despite not working for a single day in the USA. Many take advantage of this benefit, my family has taken advantage of it and DOZENS of Nigerians I know also get it. The NY Times did a big story on this as far back as 1999 or so and I've linked it in past comments.

I know PLENTY of Nigerian and African immigrants on EMERGENCY MEDICAID, right now.

Those denigrating USA government benefits compared to Europe...

1) ALL public benefits in Europe are subsidized by the USA. One major way they have money to spend on welfare is by abandoning their DEFENSE DUTIES to the USA through NATO blackmail.

2) Ethnically homogenous nations pay more benefits. Most European nations are over 90% Caucasian White or mono-tribal. Black African benefiting from those countries is INCIDENTAL to the intent of taking care of their own kind.

3) More Europeans migrate to the USA than Americans migrate to Europe. E get why.

I know MANY Nigerian doctors, nurses & pharmacists who left their jobs in Europe and migrated to the USA....and also a couple of lawyers...one of them working in the French Civil Service...and a computer engineer. I know only ONE Nigerian who has migrated from the USA to Europe and they went to the UK.

The truth is that the nature, motivation and quality of Nigerian immigrants has changed drastically over the years. One simple change I noticed is that there's less discussion about returning to Nigeria to LIVE permanently.

Also Nigerian males generally no longer pick wives from back home. These are things I've noticed. In fact it's YOUNG NIGERIAN FEMALES, including USA born citizens, who now go back to Nigeria to marry husbands and bring them over.

During the migrants crisis where Gov Abbot of Texas was busing illegal migrants to sanctuary cities, NYC Government had a public hearing. It's on video, you can look on YouTube. ILLEGAL AFRICAN MIGRANTS are there on video DEMANDING culturally appropriate food and also language translators. Anyone can look it up. It's crazy.

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED, is what I'm trying to get across and that includes attitudes toward government welfare benefits.

There's a research paper I've cited in the past that showed a 33% rate of children born to single mothers among Black British of SUB-SAHARAN ethnic backgrounds. Many of them are on welfare and it surely will be replicated among our people in the USA in due time.

Your observation or comment is strange. Again, times have changed, that's all. Immigrants of the last 15 years feel a sense of ENTITLEMENT to European and American wealth based on historic racism or colonialism. In fact your own comments are a good example of that.

The major factor in this change of attitude is clearly CNN, the most watched USA news network in Africa. You will find young Igbo people inside Nigeria passionately protesting the death of George Floyd and totally ignoring the killing of Igbo people for trying to vote in Lagos. Surely I don't need to explain why?

It's either you don't understand English or what they wrote. And it also looks like eventhough you have not stepped outside Nigeria, you don't read about the things outside too. If not you will not say Nigeria are among the top immigrants, because I don't know what rate you will give Chinese, Indian, Philippines and co. Secondly, there statistics shows Nigerians are hardworking if 67% and above don't get public benefits. Because public benefits is given based on family income.
