President Obasanjo visited Umuahia in Abia state. His destination was the home of Nigeria's first military Head of State. Gen. Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi. He shared his time with the late General's wife and family as seen in these exclusive pictures.

Obasanjo has very deep regards for the Aguiyi-Ironsi family.

Obj obviously remains loyal to the Ironsis. Remember during his tenure as president, he appointed Ironsis son as minister of state defence, and now he's found it worthy to visit Mama Ironsi. Obj may have his character flaws and moral weaknesses, but he isn't in any way parochial or clannish. I won't be surprised to find Obj taking a stroll in my village in Anambra because he seems to be at home in any part of Nigeria. That's why it's a pity if indeed Tinubu is the best the Southwest can offer.

OBJ was one of the soldiers sent by Nzeogwu to discuss with Lagos authorities qbout his surrender after the January 1966 coup failed.

OBJ was with Nzeogwu on the night of the coup but was not informed because Nzeogwu though too friendly with him, never trusted him that much.

At Lagos, OBJ decided to join the Lagos forces led by Ironsi and encouraged Nzeogwu to come to Lagos, insisting that he had a good agreement with Ironsi and that he will be safe.

On landing at Lagos from kaduna, Nzeogwu was promptly arrested by Aguiyi Ironsi forces and detained afterwards till the war broke out..

Again, Ironsi appointed Fajuyi as the Premier of the Western Region. OBJ expected that for his efforts during the January coup, Ironsi would have made him Premier instead of Fajuyi. That didn't happen, so on the night Ironsi was abducted and killed in the Western region by northern forces, OBJ who was at Abeokuta refused to lift a finger to save him.

OBJ knows everything about that January coup, and he knows the good intentions of Nzeogwu, that was why the first place he visited after he was released from prisons was Nzeogwus hometown in Delta State to see Nzeogwus ageing mother. He also stated many times in his book "My Command" that Ironsi was totally innocent.

So na guilty conscience dey worry am

He worked with the people who killed Ironsi.
Murtala was the leader of the northern coup plotters. Obj latter joined him to plot a coup in 1976. Babangida, Yaradua senior, Buhari, Danjuma.., all of them participated in that Northern counter coup. Ironsi was murdered as a result and was later framed as having a hand in Nzeogwus coup. That was/is a fat lie. No other person knows that this is a lie more than Obasanjo. Yet, he will join Murtala to continue on his repressive policies against Ironsis people based on that wsrped notion. OBJ is suffering from guilty conscience. Simple

Everything I said are in open books. Go and read. I have been reading about those events as a student of politics for years. Go and read and stop listening to your uncles who are totally bereft of ideas..

To his credit though, OBJ has been nice to that family since he became a civilian president. If OBJ believes Ironsi was involved in the January coup, he wouldn't ever have appointed Ironsis son to replace Danjuma as defence minister.
He was making a statement there with that appointment..

Still very beautiful even at 97years......we would hardly have such beauty in our ladies of these days at that age...
