Lagos Man Cleared of Child Molestation Charge After Seven Years in Custody

An elderly man, Idowu Fashola, has shared his experience after being accused of raping a young girl who had lived with his family from the age of three. He explained that the girl was brought to his home by his wife for care and training and remained with them until she reached secondary school age before returning to her parents.

He said the family later arrived with the police and accused him of rape, leading to a prolonged court case and his detention. The man said he was eventually found not guilty and discharged after the court determined he had no case to answer.

He would have earned Millions of naira by now if this happen in a country that steal oil but unfortunately it happen in a country of "particular concern"

On a serious note, this man need to be compensated by the state govt and also by the Federal govt. No be beans to spend years in prison in Nigeria. Days in police cell in Naija self na something else.

Who is going to pay for the trauma he's subjected to?

The game is already rigged against men.

All it takes to destroy a man is just some accusations of an event that may never happen several years back.

Then he'd be in and out of the court battling to clear his name while reputation remains permanently stained.

The crowd baying for blood will never objectively examine the facts. All they will do is chant; "crucify him" , " hang him" . The few who could think rationally will also be too scared or feeble to bring forth their opinions for the fear of being tagged an apologist.

It's a crazy word and I'm pissed about the man's case, it could be anybody's turn next time.
This has to stop!

To balance this story & reduce rape allegations, such accuser should face death sentence or life imprisonment to serve as deterence.

The best way to go around cases of rape is to sentence the accuser to prison terms of the defendant is found not guilty. Ladies have weaponised it.

Was gisting with a lady friend yesterday in my car and out of friendliness, I wanted collecting her phone. Aunties reaction to me is I will accuse you of rape o.

I became weak and she tried down playing it but it was too late. I told her to come off my car and she was trying to tell me it's a joke. I dropped her by the roadside and sped off. She called more than 20 times to apologize, I told her not an issue but the fact she could think of that speaks volumes about her person.

Like upon everything to say or react with, it's rape she could think of when we've never had sexual conversations or sexual whatever. Come imagine I date her n break her heart.

Our legal system should be made to take responsibility and pay substantial fines for wrongful convictions as is done in saner climes since we are already copying their tax system. Where do they want this man to start from after failing to properly investigate and judiciously prosecute ensuring only the guilty are convicted undecided

This is deeply troubling and highlights two hard truths at once: the need to protect children and the need to protect innocent people from destroyed lives. Seven years in custody for a case with no answer is a tragedy on its own.

For men especially, this is a reminder to take precautions: avoid being alone with minors, teeneagers, women etc. keep interactions transparent, involve third parties, document arrangements, and ensure parents or guardians are always present and informed. Good intentions are no longer enough; structure and boundaries matter.

At the same time, the justice system must act swiftly and fairly. Delayed justice ruins lives on all sides. Child protection and due process must go hand in hand one should not cancel the other.

Legal system? Did you read the story at all? For all we know, the man was pardoned for his crime— the story says nothing of the court's finding him not guilty of the crime —so, how does that prove he was not guilty? The statement is according to him — the man accused of rape — he was set free, not that he was cleared of the charges by a court that found him not guilty. 🥱🥱🥱

How can the police hold someone in custody for 7 years, when they have not been sentenced. Did the man not have a lawyer? The first thing they should have done is processed his bail.
