I had to bring this up because it has been bothering me for a while. I love beer to the glory of God and the shame of the devil. And I am very particular about it. So I find this concerning. Is it just me or are most beers being sold in Nigeria now very watered down? They don't taste like they used to anymore. It is even more sad that even with the reduction in prices of local inputs and rate of exchange between the Naira and the dollar, beer prices still remain high. Why are our brewers doing this? They keep prices high and yet sell near water as beer. This is evil and an abomination. You don't mess with a man's beer. What is going on? |

I longed to see a day when alcoholic beverage producers would go out of business due to low patronage.....the more people drinks alcoholic beverage the more their risk of alcohol-induced liver diseases increases trippple. I wish my uncle listened to me 5 years ago when I was warning ⚠️ him to keep away from alcohol beverages, unfortunately the man died from cirrhosis due to years of uncontrolled drinking |

I haven’t drank for a while now, but as at March last year, Heineken and Guinness tasted no different from years past. What exactly do you drink so people who indulge in it will tell you? Dogalmighty17: |

Beer did not kill your uncle. Stronger alcoholic drinks did. The safest forms of alcohol present here are beers. It is hard to intoxicate one’s self because of their low alcohol volume. You’ll sooner get frustrated from visiting the toilet than catch cirrhosis if beer is what you indulge in. DSS1335: |

kpankpangolo:Hero and Trophy are my preferred beers but I am dismayed that they now taste like Budweiser. |

Those are cheap beers which I doubt have spent up to six years in the market. Move to Heineken or anything from the Diageo line. They’ve maintained quality over the years. Dogalmighty17: |

Most beer in nigeria are either unauthentic or fake. Just go to nigerian brewery and see the gimcrack they are brewing. Local alchol like palm wine is getting too expensive, the other day i bought a keg for 80k . |

So the Brewery I once worked for in Nigeria started something called Taste and flavour Engineering/re-engineering. I understand it’s an ongoing experiment to use substitutes in place of ingredients and still arrive at the same taste. These experiments are for production purposes in the event of lack of certain ingredients or as a means to cut production costs for some products and maximise profits. Each reengineered product goes through lots of tasting by beer tasters and can go into production if the taste can match taste with the real product. Keen consumers can however notice the taste difference. Taste engineering is very common practice in the beverage industry. |

As a matter of fact, every product produced in Nigeria has been reduced in term of quantity and quality. Even some imported products too. Examples are: Indomie Spaghetti Coke Drugs etc. |

Immatex:I understand now. But isn't this taking consumers forgranted? Why change the taste of a product when you have won people over? I understand that businesses need to maximise profits but when it begins to affect their customers then it is counter productive. |

Dogalmighty17:Good question. Taste engineering is not a crime or simply about profiteering. You see, taste evolves and so needs modernising or updating to fit with consumer preferences. Take Gulder lager as an example. The taste has undergone many purification or engineering, so it’s now appealing to young drinkers, has no after taste and breath smell and hangovers. Every product goes through some modernisation over time to increase its appeal not simply to reduce production costs. Life lager beer is another example of a reengineered product in taste. |

Immatex:Gulder is still in the market? I never knew! I'll give gulder and life a trial and see. I'm not sure where I'll get gulder sha considering my area. But I'll try. Thank you so much for your knowledge based conversation. It means a lot. |
