Expect Prosperity This Year - Tinubu Assures Nigerians by Kemetian(op): 11:50pm On Jan 08
President Tinubu has assured that “year 2026 promises to be an epochal year for delivering prosperity to all Nigerians''.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, said Nigeria’s current account balance was projected to rise to $18.81 billion in 2026, up from $16.94 billion in 2025, on the back of the ongoing economic reforms.

The President stated this while applauding corporate Nigeria, citizens, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian capital market for surpassing the N100 trillion milestone on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the President described this “record achievement” as an inspiration for the investing public operating in the money and capital markets.

“From blue-chip industrial giants that have localised their supply chains, to a banking sector that has demonstrated resilience and technological innovation, Nigerian companies are proving that the country can deliver strong returns on investment.

And we are just getting started. The pipeline for new and upcoming listings looks robust. More indigenous energy firms, tech unicorns, telecoms, and infrastructure-heavy entities are seeking to access the public market to fund their expansion. As these firms are listed, they will boost market capitalisation and deepen democratic ownership of the Nigerian economy.

We are also seeing an expansion of the rail networks, the completion of major arterial roads and the revitalisation of our ports. With the transformative Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badgry superhighways, the nation’s infrastructure is growing."

“Our medicare facilities are improving, and medical tourism costs are declining. Our students benefit from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and universities are receiving increased research grants. The N100 trillion market capitalisation is a signal to the world that the Nigerian economy is robust and productive."

“As your leader, I pledge to continue working unrelentingly to build an egalitarian, transparent, and high-growth economy that will be further catalysed by the historic tax and fiscal reforms that came into full implementation from January 1”, President Tinubu concluded.

The President noted that the country was not just celebrating the superlative stock market performance in isolation, but “we are also celebrating the microeconomic effects of our reforms."

No responsible leader will sneak out of his country when it's on fire

Boko haram and Iswap Islamic terorist affiliates are unleashing mayhem on Nigerians and the president is nowhere to be found . What a leader ..

The fact is that Tinubu and Wike will part ways sooner or later. Tinubu is to make that call but it will be definitely be a hard call

Aligning with Wike will mean lots of disgruntled elements in APC national leadership and loyalty concerns with APC governors. The Rivers people might fight back at the poll and if Fubara is not fully on the side of the president, 2023 type of rigging might not be possible. Besides, Rivers is not as critical as it was in 2023 because all other SS states are in the bag for APC.

Aligning with Fubara will mean that Tinubu risks leaking of 2023 rigging secrets among other prior acts between Tinubu and Wike. The extent of damage this will cause Tinubu’s 2027 mandate is yet to be determined but not expected to have significant impact as Wike has grown national apathy for himself. Infact, Tinubu might endear genuine voters if he openly goes after Wike and he has the apparatus of the state to shut him up or make him politically irrelevant

At the end, irrespective of what Tinubu decides in this case, Wike will fight Tinubu and APC leadership like he has always done his entire political life…… the question is When?

It is ironic that a government that tells the masses to endure its ill-thoughtout reforms does not itself adhere to those reforms.

The government that removed pms subsidy has almost tripled its own spending on transportation costs, spending over 25m a day to 'subsidise' its own transport expenses. So is it only the masses that are 'worthy' of enduring delibitating policies? Why can't the government officials also significantly cut thier costs?

A government that preaches an end to medical tourism has its leader travelling to France at the slightest headache. Wasting public funds for flimsy foreign frolicks under health guises.

An administration that tells its citizens to be upright is arrogantly and criminally altering tax laws.

The government says the tax laws are to help the poor, but it increases PIT by more than 100% for those at the low end of the scale from 7% to 15%, but only increases it by 1% for those earning the highest, a category to which the political class and thier corporate cronies belong by virtue of thier stealing and selfish manipulation of public funds.

Your country is unsafe. Citizens are being killed by terrorists in gruesome manners and large numbers, but the president travels out of the country for no reason.
