Breaking News: Russia Deploys Advanced Oreshnik Missile in Strike on Ukraine's Largest Underground Gas Storage Facility in Lviv Region

In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russian forces have reportedly launched an Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) targeting a critical infrastructure site in Western Ukraine's Lviv (Lvov) region. Ukrainian officials confirm the attack struck the Bilche-Volytsko-Uherske underground gas storage facility near Stryi—the largest in Europe with a capacity of over 17 billion cubic meters, accounting for more than half of Ukraine's total gas storage network.

The strike, which occurred in the early hours of January 9, 2026, caused powerful explosions heard across multiple regions, including Lviv, Ternopil, and Rivne. While exact damage assessments are ongoing, preliminary reports indicate potential disruptions to Ukraine's winter energy supply, including heating, power generation, and gas transit to Europe. No immediate casuāˆ†lties have been reported by local authorities, though emergency services are on site extinguishing fires and evaluating impacts.

This marks the second confirmed combat use of the hypersonic Oreshnik missile, following its initial deployment in Dnipro in late 2024. The attack follows a U.S. Embassy security alert warning of a potential major air assault, highlighting heightened tensions amid Russia's continued targeting of Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops. #Ukraine #RussiaUkraineWar #BreakingNews

out of 193 countries
if you can't go to bat for your core 6 allies then why is he wasting everyone's time

interestingly, venezuela does not need an active intervention
it only needs an economic lifeline
dispatch a flotilla to reliably break the blockade
that's it
the worst that'd happen is troop deployment and venezuela is vietnam on steroids

6 out of 193 countries
and the largest economy, navy, and most populous country on the planet is giving excuses that would embarrass f*cking sandal-wearing militants in yemen
and it's not like these countries are basket cases
russia is a superpower. iran is formidable. both have their respective hegemonies and are civilization states, venezuela has the largest oil reserves. cuba is a small island nation in a prime location facing off a foe that could practically squash it like a bug. north korea is ride or die.
each one of them is a first round pick of resilience and sheer f*cking chutzpah deserving of xi's overt support and yet he's dropping lamba about international law
f*ck international law. f*cking act.

does he think the us will stop with venezuela
let them finish up setting up their alternate supply chains for chips, rare earth, and the core industrial metals
they will give every major supplier of chinese raw materials the same choice they gave maduro
kick out the chinese or spend the night in rikers
they already attempted same in panama and in the netherlands
just outrightly try to seize chinese billions in investment and unceremoniously kick 'em out and there's no war yet

You are very correct here. It has happened in those countries and will happen in the DRC pretty soon. A deliberate change or coercion of governments and policies towards the Chinese to starve them of needed natural resources. Those political protests in Indonesia and Tanzania after their respective elections were attempts to challenge the incumbents. Even the one in our country is to attack Chinese interests. That new port in Peru really pained them, and Lula in Brazil is another person they don't like, as there are plans to create a railway that will pass through the middle of the country to Paraguay. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Bi-Oceanic_railway

The main target is China with the aim of starving its economy. So yes, I do agree with you that Xi is too slow or indecisive towards China's allies.

That will not happen in our lifetime. USA lacks the means to refine rare earths and China has made it nearly unprofitable for companies to venture into the sector.
The US does not have to be the sole refiner as they could be refined elsewhere such as neutral Malaysia. However, the US wants to dominate the sourcing as China is the sole domineering power. The Chinese have retaliated by barring the exports of refining technologies/knowledge outside of the country and permissible only when approved. However, there exists a risk of seizure of Chinese assets by governments backed by the US. Or an outright rejection of Chinese investments by some countries or high tariffs. The former has just happened in the DRC and the latter in Mexico.

That was that China is afraid to fight and avoiding, whether they like it or not, they will fight it.
Whatever projection they think they are planning won't work.
I read someone wrote by 2050, China will displace the US by doing nothing but continue in this road they are.
Helloooohuh??
If China continues on this road, by 2030, they would have moved so backward instead of forward that it will alarm them.
You can only thrive, expand and rich if your interest is been protected else, you will become poorer.
The last company I worked for is a French company that went broke and bankrupted and they had to sell it to a bidder.
Chinese companies were the foremost bidders but just for the company not to fall into the hands of Chinese and make them stronger, American companies came onboard and it was sold to them.
50% of the properties in the company were owned by Chinese investors and they are been forced out to sell the properties cheaper or face the option of these properties not getting contracts and costing the Chinese owners maintenance money.
Either way. They are being banged.
This is what is happening at the background/behind the scene in the corporate world far from the public eyes unlike the war that is popular.
The Americans are going any length to push out Chinese investors, companies and rendering them poorer.

China will never get richer towing this part.
This happened in Australia even during Trump's first term. So many Chinese investors have been barred, restricted or told they cannot buy those assets simply because they are Chinese. Corporate America is happy with Donald Trump, and to be honest, he was the best hand possible to tackle China from US-led West point of view. I have read how flagging companies - broke and almost out of business - have Chinese bidders all of a sudden, one reads that an American firm - competitor or private equity - comes in as the preferred bidder, whereas the Chinese bidders were qualified and in most cases offered the highest sum. In cases where the Chinese win, you read comments filled with agony that the Chinese won.

So, the Chinese must be ready o. That fight they are dodging, they must fight it, or else it comes to them right in their faces. Sometimes, I think they don't want to do it now because of the economics at home or something else I don't know, but they are dealing with gangsters o

A civilian sunflower oil production facility in Dnipro, owned by the American company Bunge, was damaged in a targeted Russian attack. 300 tons of oil spilled onto the road.

The strike was intentional, with repeated attempts to hit the facility.

šŸ’¬ ā€œRussia has been targeting American businesses in Ukraine systemically. Russian strikes last year damaged Boeing offices in Kyiv, a major American-owned electronics manufacturer in Zakarpattia, and other facilities,ā€ Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha has commented.

ā€œPutin’s attacks on American businesses and American interests in Ukraine show his complete disregard for peace efforts led by President Donald Trump. This is why it is so urgent to advance the peace process – and Ukraine is ready to move it forward – as well as to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence and increase sanctions pressure."

We had the helicopters crashing, the sandstorms. If you had sandstorms you should come back, but they tried to blast through the sandstorm.

Nature always wins. Helicopters don’t have that kind of an engine, they have a lot of moving parts, they don’t like sand blowing into their gears.

They decided to go forward. Should have come back.

i always find that argument puzzling
like if you have ever managed a business, you will not make that argument

take the average shop in nigeria dealing with energy issues, multiple taxations, and sh*t
maybe there is no gasoline because of scarcity
local government tax collectors locked your shop
unsatisfied customer called the police for you
logistics called you to inform you that your goods were in a truck that was in an accident or something

then someone will wake up and say you don't have to act
Look at dangote, he had to come out himself to battle oil cabals that doesn't want Nigeria progress, cabals that doesn't want our local refineries to work, who just want to be shipping oil everyday. The man had to fight for everything he is built not to crumble, and he is fighting hard. I have never seen dangote so bullish.

Official Statement of the Russian MOD

Tonight, in response to the terrorist attack by the Kiev regime on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation in the Novgorod region, carried out on the night of December 29, 2025, the Russian Armed Forces have launched a massive strike with high-precision long-range ground and sea-based weapons, including the mobile medium-range ground-based missile system 'Oreshnik', as well as drone strikes on critical facilities in Ukraine.

The objectives of the strike have been achieved. The targets of the attack were the production facilities of unmanned aerial vehicles, which were used in the terrorist attack, as well as the energy infrastructure that supports the operation of Ukraine's military-industrial complex.

Any terrorist actions by the criminal Ukrainian regime will continue to receive a response".
this did not go far enough for me
you should not wait until an attack causes casualties before retaliating with one against their decision makers

meanwhile ukraine to close all learning institutions and businesses until january 19
it appears putin used an active warhead instead of the inert warhead he used in the first oreshnik strike
vaporized the target

they're now calling for a UN security council meeting
someone should tell them that international law is dead

the ship no really join
what it did was hasten the response

on the day that the russian-flagged tanker was seized the kremlin organized a media event to present the chip it claimed proved that putin's residence was the target of the drone strike
so the seizure was an egg in the face
later events including that st***d 20-peace plan signaled to the russians that the americans were toying with them
so they had to move forward their attack and retaliation plans

there will still be a separate retaliation for that ship seizure
as i said earlier that is as certain as the sun

to their credit, the trump administration successfully pulled the legs of the kremlin with half-baked overtures and sh*t while they organized to be belligerent in the background
i hope that is over now and the kremlin sees them for what they are
