Impeachment: Fubara’s defection to APC threatens Wike’s grip on Rivers — Ex-Commissioner

A former Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Austin Tam-George, has suggested that the defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, altered the political dynamics in the state, weakening the influence of the camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Tam-George said that political calculations in the state within the last three weeks has changed, noting that the development appeared to have unsettled Wike and his allies.

Speaking during the Arise Television’s Prime Time, the former commissioner stated it was why Wike in recent weeks embarked on visits to several local government areas in the state.

According to him, the governor’s defection eroded the leverage previously enjoyed by the Wike camp over the Rivers State Government, forcing them to seek new ways of reasserting their influence.

He, however, warned that the prolonged political tension and instability resulting from the rivalry would ultimately be detrimental to the state and its people.

Tam-George said: “The movement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to APC in the last 21 days has changed the political calculation in Rivers State.

“You know, in the past two weeks or so, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has been going from local government area to another local government area, threatening the government of Rivers state, even insulting the leadership structures of the APC at some point.

“He even accused some senior leaders and the Tinubu administration of going to Rivers State to literally accept, take money or bribes, also from the Rivers state government.


“So what I think is happening is that the defection of the governor has obviously threatened the original leverage that the Wike’s camp had over the governor, and they are finding a way to look for a way of asserting what they thought might be a threat to their leverage.

“But the regret is that it is the state ultimately that suffers from this kind of instability.”

This is what is likely happening between Wike and Fubara

Immediately after the SOE declaration by president Tinubu, my first suggestions was for Gov Fubara to sack all his special advisers and some people who called themselves friends pitching him to start unnecessary fight.

He started firing them when he was on suspension, he continued when he resumed.

As for the Wike's side, it's the same fate that should happen to the River state assembly members loyal to Wike as they will be eventually be tossed.

Wike will prefer Fubara to be fighting the state assembly members till election period.

I can't find it logical that president Tinubu will intervene between Wike and Fubara before the SOE expired and they will still resume fighting each other. That's meaty

Now that Fubara has decamp to APC, it is now difficult for House of Assembly members who are also APC members to impeach an APC governor to please a PDP person who is Wike...

Tinubu and APC must now protect Fubara to stop him from decamping to ADC so as not to split Rivers state's votes

If they decide not to give him APC ticket, he will contest under another Party like ADC using state resources which will not favour Tinubu.

So in this case of defection, everything now favours Fubara... He has nothing to lose because I learned is part of their agreement that he wouldn't contest again or decamp to APC ...

SIM moving to APC practically killed Wike's career. To even make matter worse, SIM said, Na me be APC 001 in Rivers state. That guy sef get bad mouth

At this point, Wike needs to humble himself and iron things out man to man with SIM. I see him getting disgraced soon. Tinubu is not a man he can challenge directly or indirectly.

They way Wike is going, i just hope he does not have a heart attack. I have never seen him this unsettled and confused.

This one is nothing near anything that's happening. Many people are still assuming what will never happen. It's going to be an interesting episode at the end of the day.


In this same Rivers State that we are hearing that the State governor is angry over the deputy governor having to join him in APC because he wanted her in another party!!!!!


PBAT does not work with people who are untrustworthy and deceptive.

So no one cares about the welfare of the state for now,everything is all about wike and fubara…let them continue to enjoy the standstill,but one thing for sure is that the rivers house members are also APC members so there is nothing that can stop them from impeaching him is they want to.
Some of them should continue with the delusion that fubara’s defection has threatened wike’s grip,they will know that he holds the assembly still very firm

it is now very difficulty for them to impeach APC Governor... The federal government and the NWC are supporting the governor.

How can you impeach an APC Governor for a non APC man who is Wike?

If APC refuses to give Fubara ticket to contest, he will decamp to ADC and use the state resources for his reelection

If Fubara remained in PDP he would have been easily impeached at this point.

Moving to APC was the best decision as it stands.

what Wike boiz that defected are yet to realize is that, APC is not like PDP where anything goes Anybody can do as they like

In there is a structure and a sheriff in charge , you must fall in line or you get ostracized they still think na PDP dem dey wey dem fit do anyhow nd get away with anything

One advice I personally have for Mr Wike; he should take a break from active politics for a while. He is silently killing himself with all these unnecessary pressures. Oga needs to chill for a while.

BTW, I've always stated that Tinubu is not in the best position to resolve this lingering crisis. The destiny of Rivers state is in the hands of the Rivers state people. Where are their elders? Are there no influential people in that state that can call these two men to order? WTF? 🤥

I believe Tinubu knew the personality of Wike before asking for his help in 2023…. That help done by Wike got him a reward of FCT minister.

The point now is if Tinubu has a backup plan on how to set Wike up and excuse him from his reelection in 2027…. Yes Tinubu does.


Tinubu will treat Wike the way he treated insecurity in Nigeria, he will allow him do Rivers state the way he pleases for now making him think the president is on his side, which is the trap. Then at the right moment Wike will be dropped and kept busy with EFCC… he can’t spill any secret he has with Tinubu because that’s a treasonable offence and his judges he built houses for will all be there in Omotosho Supreme Court where he’ll be answering how he helped Tinubu become president…no one will save him not even his wife.


Wike will be his own downfall, just a matter of time…. Rivers state speaker and his cronies are just held in captivity by Wike, they’re scared of not honouring the agreement they have with Wike… so that’s why they’re barking in the direction Wike presses his remote controller

That's why all the governors are defecting, and the funds would help them in building their states.

That's what they will always tell you after defecting.


But are they really looting the funds or using it build projection their various states?

But same wike even before the election that produced Fubara went from one LGA to another.

Did Fubara campaign. The truth is that no Jupiter can save Fubara.

Wike remains the number one politician in Rivers state.

Fubara as a sitting governor cannot win a Local govt come 2027.

It doesn't in any way. As a matter of fact Fubara being a poor general made the wrong at the wrong time. Wike wants an APC governor in Rivers State. APC is not threatened about losing Rivers State but it must not be Fubara.
