Is 2.5M Naira Offer In VI Good? by jobgbemi(op): 8:37pm On Jan 09
I have an offer of 2.5m - 2.8m naira monthly at VI, is it okay to accept? I'm just considering Lagos being an expensive city.
I currently earn 946k in PH but I need an upgrade.

Is this going to be worth an upgrade if I take it?

Don't accept it, they are supposed to pay u nothing less than 20 million, considering that the location is vi, a plate of food in vi is 1 million naira while 1 room self contain goes as high as 1 billion naira per year. So don't take that offer OK!

Hmmm, what type of work is this? I'm not asking for the company name oo, so no spying here. Just that it will be very rare to see a job of 500k here in Nigeria let alone 2.5m

Leave those people thinking because one has a 2.5 million naira job one shouldn't ask since it's an offer that falls in the top 1% of salaries in Nigeria.

As long as the offer is good, you can afford to stay in close promity to your place of work , and the career prospects of your job is wonderful take it up. Fear not

Re: Is 2.5M Naira Offer In VI Good? by LeoThaGreat(m): 11:27pm On Jan 09
The acceptability of the offer depends on the industry standard and the Lagos' standard salary for the role.

You can rent a good 2 bedroom in Victoria Island with 8m per annum as rent, or a 1 bedroom (mini flat for about 5m).
V.I is a nice environment to live in

N8m per annum for rent on a N2.5m monthly salary isn't a flex.

When you consider he is starting afresh in Lagos, cost of living around V/I is crazy, he needs to save, invest, develop himself, fend for himself & family, black tax, etc.

If he is married, child care, school fees, fending for them.

It is well.

What is your total package in PH (take home, other benefits in cash & kind, current living/feeding arrangements, family support/leverage, cost of living etc.) viz a viz your total package in V/I.

If the difference isn't much however with a high chance of growth/better prospects, you can consider the move.

Thanks everyone. Looks like it's good to go. Someone advised me to stay in Gbagada or Yaba. I am expectant father. Someone was asking, it's actually 2.8M Naira net. May Lagos bless me. Thanks everyone.
It is well.

There is no law that says if your work is in Victoria Island, you must live in Victoria Island.

Some years back when I was working for a firm shortly after my NYSC, I was living on the Mainland and working in V.I.

You can rent a nice affordable apartment in areas near Victoria Island, areas like:

1.) Surulere
2.) Obalende
3.) Ikate
4.) Oworo
5.) Gbagada
6.) Anthony
7.) International airport road axis

Lagos seems to house headquarters of most Nigerian firms, so being in Lagos will be an advantage for future growth.

But look very well before you leap. Does the company have a history of outliving bad governments of the past or are they new? If they are new, tread with caution because they can be thrown off balance by Tinubu's thoughtless policies which could make them shutdown operation and flee if it's a foreign firm. Make sure they have a future based on the services they offer, their founders, years of existence/operation in Nigeria, etc.
Re: Is 2.5M Naira Offer In VI Good? by MemoriesAndMe: 12:57am On Jan 10
It depends on the nature of the job,I wonder why nobody asked what kind of job it is.

N2.5m is too small for jobs like kidnapping, armed robbery, Yahoo, drug dealing etc in VI, even as an errand boy for the bosses. So, consider negotiating if that's your case
Re: Is 2.5M Naira Offer In VI Good? by Kaczynski: 3:07am On Jan 10
2.5M > 946k. Good. Victoria Island eats salaries: rent, security, fuel, uber, electricity bill. demand written housing + transport if you know your worth which depends on the value of your skill set or push to 3M+, get net‑pay breakdown and payroll history. If they refuse, don’t romanticize VI they’ll gut your salary with bills. Take the money, automate savings, and never trust an HR smile.

The move is worth it

He must not live in VI
He can live in mainland around sabo ,onike and commute to vi

Rents are cheaper here and he just moves across the 3rd mainland into v.i

Here rents can go for 3m for a 3 bedroom

In porthahcourt, I'm not sure where he works and stays but he is having a double increase so let him take it .

If he lives in 2 or 3 bedroom in porthahcourt in a decent area , his rent is likely 2m so let him take the v I job and start saving to v an investment that can easily produce money for his choice rent yearly while he quitely look out for a suitable personal residence he can buy or build .

Personally, I will live in sabo or onike and work in v.i
V.i is even ok not like it's leaking

When flooding comes , in ysba area, onike and sabo , u r safe , no flooding can chase u out of ur house.

In porthahcourt, maybe he works in transamsfi , he can live anywhere even
But if the area does not v federal light ,I don't care how cool the neighborhood is,even though it's my private house, I will rent it out and look for where there is steady or near steady power .
Peter odili maybe some area v federal light , transamsfi area has federal light, I know ogbunsbsli used to v federal light back in the days though. Mile 4 has federal light, some part of NTA area has federal light

Are you saying 2.5 million a month in Naija is small. If people like you plenty for social media spaces, plenty people for don die of depression. Don't be surprised someone having almost the same degree and qualifications as the poster is earning less than 200k in this same Nigeria and still thanking God

I am not talking about moving to V/I. Obviously, N2.5m monthly take home cannot take him to V/I.

N3m rent for 3 bed is very ok; I gather that the landlords at Gbagada/ Yaba/ Surulere axis are running crazy.

He still needs to do a SWOT analysis on the move. A higher paycheck might be nothing if his new expenses will rise about it.

It's ok but you may loose the job or any job you're in at all, if you don't have -

Adaptability & Flexibility
This course is designed to equip you with the single most valuable asset in the modern economy - the ability to adapt. We are living in an era where the shelf life of a technical skill is roughly five years, and the corporate landscape shifts with the speed of a weather pattern. The stable, linear career path of the past has been replaced by a volatile environment where "the way we’ve always done it" is the fastest route to obsolescence. In this new reality, your success is no longer defined by what you already know, but by how quickly you can unlearn old habits and master new ones in the face of uncertainty.

In the 1960s or 70s, you could go to university, learn engineering or accounting, and that body of knowledge would serve you for forty years. Today, we live in the age of Moore’s Law, where computing power doubles every two years. This has created a ripple effect on human skills.
Research suggests the “half-life” of a learned professional skill is now only about five years. This means that five years from today, half of what you know about your job will be useless, outdated, or incorrect.

Think of your degree or your current expertise like a carton of milk in the fridge. It is nutritious and valuable right now. But if you leave it there and don’t replenish it, in five years it will be sour. If you are a graphic designer who refused to leave the drafting table for the computer, you became obsolete. If you are a writer today who refuses to learn how to use AI tools, you risk the same fate. The “Case for Change” is simple: if you are standing still, you are actually moving backward because the ground is moving forward beneath your feet.
Imagine two carpenters.

Carpenter A has built the same wooden chair for 30 years. He is a master of that chair.
Carpenter B has only been building for 3 years, but she works with wood, metal, and plastic, and she watches YouTube tutorials every night to learn new techniques.

If the market suddenly decides it wants plastic tables instead of wooden chairs, Carpenter A is out of a job. His experience is his baggage. Carpenter B, however, is just getting started. She has Learning Agility.

Lol. So if I tell you what I earn weekly on travel allowance, you go craze. I don't even want to mention my salary. You may be depressed.

To burst your bubble, my last salary for a year and 10 months that I worked for and it is in PH, a Nigerian company is more than what the OP has. Believe me, such salaries are not uncommon. If I get an offer of 6m monthly net, I go still ask questions and before I consider it.

Yes it is worth it.

You must not necessarily live in VI. There are affordable areas that have close proximity to the island. Gbagada, Yaba, Maryland, Magodo, Shomolu are good areas to reside in.
