Efetobore1980:Thank goodness you said it’s an ongoing temporary ban and that they should continue their admission process and also explore other countries. Don’t be advising people to be going to interview when there is a temporary ban. Tell them the correct thing and what will improve their chances which is what I am doing. “Go to interview una” when people are collecting rejection upandan with letter citing the proclamation. You are still pushing them to go. If you are reading this, just have other options but still pursue your us admission process. As for visa, hold on for now and see what unfolds on or before June to take your decision. You have 99% of getting rejected currently. Shalom

Good luck, just that Canada doesn't have as many schools compared to the USA Ose2988: |

While it is good to communicate with your school of choice—especially if you have already paid application fees—it is important to understand that no school will reject an applicant solely because of the ban. Instead, schools may reach out to admitted students (who are yet to get visas) and request that they defer enrollment to a later semester. Vanjori: |

Sirleecoded:I know someone on 221g for H4. Visa interview was on the 31st of December and they took the passport. Status hasn't changed online since then. |

People with valid visas are still coming into the US as we speak, just that there is extra scrutiny in some cases SimpleGuy001: |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by snoopy(m): 6:12pm On Jan 07 |
Sirleecoded:I know someone who has been on 221g for H-1B since October and hasn't been approved nor denied. I also know someone who was on 221g in the same October and was approved just 1 week after. I think the employer is the issue. If it's an employer that has filed for H-1B several times, it could be easier. if the employer is fairly new in the biz, it could result in long vetting periods.. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by snoopy(m): 6:14pm On Jan 07 |
Sirleecoded:You can only reach out after 60 days with no response. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by snoopy(m): 6:23pm On Jan 07 |
earnvest:They introduced social media vetting for H-1B and H4 on December 15th, 2025, which is probably the reason for the slight delay, added with the holidays. The fact they collected the passport is already positive; they will issue it pending if they don't find anything of concern on the social media. I was placed on 221g when I applied for my H4 in October last year and they likewise collected my passport. Before I got home from the interview, the status had already changed to approved. Fingers crossed, it will be approved. |

chibertha:That is different actually. Proclamation never stopped those who have valid visa. It’s about those not yet approved I was referring to.. |

Sirleecoded:Wow! 221g for a year is a long time, though. Your I-797 approval notice is usually for an initial 3 years, which means 1 year is already gone. Please contact the embassy to find out the update, as you can reach out to them after 60 days without hearing from them. |

Ignore the advice above. Odds of getting approved is extremely low. I’ll say 99%,,, I wonder why embassy is still collecting people’s money, denying them and giving people rejection with proclamation as basis.. Put yourself in a better position to be approved, than go in when the odds are already skewed against you, chill small and see what plays out until June end. Strategize but not blindly especially when your chances of approval and monetary resources are at risk. Take this advice seriously if you are a first timer (referring specifically to F1 visas) |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Taal17: 5:46pm On Jan 10 |
Kahyoba:Based on the current proclamation 10998 they would not be able to issue you visa under the partial nan. F2 circumstances would probably not qualify for the exemptions of the proclamation. I'd say you can reapply if you get a date after June 2026 and by then we'd know if the ban would reversed. Now the recent visa bond for B1/B2 that includes Nigeria might be a possibility but I don't know how this works for Nigeria since visa issuance is banned, that I'm not clear about By next week I'll confirm, it might help in your case. |
