tunjijones:Yall are always desperate to normalize rubbish, that's why your politicians bend you over. Her complaint is that the cost of electricity is high, not that ther3s no electricity. Spot the difference. In your country, even of you can pay or paid, can the government guarantee the electricity? |
| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by morikee: 12:41pm On Jan 11 |
saphiere:Good Morning Ma, I am based in Kaduna. We were also told that the units remaining on the old meter would be transferred to the new meter, but up till now that has not happened. Recently, when I tried to vend a token, I was informed that there is a debt of 25 million, which I have no idea how it came about. I’m using a prepaid meter, so I don’t understand how such a huge debt could be accumulated. |

| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by creolehunt: 12:44pm On Jan 11 |
EnkayDezign:I asked a question Sir. Do those who can afford electricity in Nigeria have it? At least in her country, the government has provided the necessity, the question is of affordability not availability. In Nigeria, theres a problem of both affordability and availability. Again, note the difference. |

morikee:..but the difference between Nigeria and USA even with the high electricity bill..the electricity light supply in USA is 24 hours daily everyday while in Nigeria lack of power electricity light supply..not all that..constant ..2 hours,or 3 hours, or 6 hours a day..some days no electricity light at all |

morikee:The debt must have been accumulated by the people using that meter before. The same apply to my house meter. Just finished clearing our house meter debt last year and now enjoying the new meter with the bonus they gave us. |

PulaPower:She isn't paying the bill...that's why she isn't enjoying the light. Also, it is because they pay such high bills that they enjoy the power supply. |
| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by nairalanda1(m): 1:32pm On Jan 11 |
EdiskyHarry:LOL...this does not console APC. It shows them that their polices on power are bad...that paying for power at full price and disconnecting those that do not pay means that everyone who does pay full market price gets light. Not like what APC Is doing where most people don't pay at all or underpay, despite over 80% being on subsidised prices for power. |

funsho75:Because of greedy people and selfish leaders around the world. |
| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by nairalanda1(m): 1:36pm On Jan 11 |
frankmoney:That is because most people pay the power bill in the US...at market price. See the figure..one in twenty people cannot pay for power in the USA, and light gets shut off. That means that 5% of Americans do not pay for the power they use. In Nigeria, that figure is 40-50%, with over 60% of users on meter not paying. Only 20% of users pay for estimated billing. That's why you don';t have light. Our power sector has been and still is operating at a massive loss to give you power, unlike the US, where they are so profitable, they can give light to those that do not pay, till they cut them off. If an American company was running our power sector, most people would have been cut off for not paying for power. And they would send debt collectors after all of them. Ha, we don't do that here. ![]() |

morikee:The debts are not sudden. Nigerians don't pay bills, they have accumulated bills on the post paid meters, bills they didn't pay for donkey years. They assume the bills will be written off by installing a new metre, it doesn't work that way |
| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by nairalanda1(m): 1:38pm On Jan 11 |
laitsy:Also, because things cost money to make. Like now, in the USA, fuel costs far more than it did 50 years ago, because refining technology has improved drastically. The type of petrol they refined 50 years ago is not made now. That increases costs. Add the fact that the people that make the things you buy also want to live well too. And yes, greedy corrupt executives want to earn a lot. And people that invent stuff too want to make a lot of money.. So, prices go up. |

| Re: I Had No Electricity For 6 Months: American Families Struggle With Energy Prices by nairalanda1(m): 1:41pm On Jan 11 |
creolehunt:1.Government does not provide power in the USA...it is private companies 2.One in twenty people in the US do not pay for power, that is five percent. The rest do..that is 95%. IN Nigeria, it is like 40-80% not paying or underpaying, and less than 20% actually paying for power. 3.Result is the US power company has the cash to supply light 24/7, Nigerian companies do not, and are struggling with people owing them money. ALso, as you can see, if you don't pay for power, or bypass your meter in the USA, you get cut off. Nigerian power companies don't. At the end of the day, US Power companies make enough money to guarantee power, Nigerian power companies do not (remember NIgerian power generation and distribution is also PRIVATE)> |
