Students of Government College, Ibadan, Western Nigeria performing experiment inside a science Laboratory.

Date: 18th of September, 1960

Government College Ibadan (founded 28 February 1929) is a boys' secondary school located on the hills of Apata Ganga in Ibadan, Nigeria.

The founding fathers of Government College Ibadan were Selwyn MacGregor Grier, Director of Education, Southern Provinces, who conceived the idea of the school, and E. R. Swanston, Inspector of Education.

The school was conceived and founded on 28 February 1929. The first principal was C. E. Squire. The second principal was H. T. C. Field. V. B. V. Powell was the third principal.

Government College was modelled on the British public boarding schools of the era, and the first set of students numbered 29.

During the Second World War, the school temporarily moved to several sites before finally resettling back at its original site. The alumnus popularly called Old Boys, holds an annual reunion programme in order to connect former students.

In the period before the dissolution of the country's Western Region, the school earned the fame of being the best secondary school in Nigeria.

Some of its notable alumni's include the following:

Adegoke Adelabu, Akinola Aguda, T. M. Aluko, Segun Awolowo, Wale Babalakin, Cyprian Ekwensi, Oba Erediauwa of Benin-City, Abel Guobadia, Christopher Kolade, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, Femi Osofisan, Ayo Rosiji, Olaokun Soyinka and his father, Wole Soyinka.
BAT too claimed he went there.

HOW MANY SCHOOLS HAVE YOU BEEN TO IN NIGERIA TO CHECK?

YOU JUST OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO TYPE RUBBISH BECAUSE YOU HAVE INTERNET, ABI?

TALKING AS IF THE COUNTRY WAS FILLED WITH SCHOOLS IN 1960 RATHER THAN A TINY HANDFUL OF SO CALLED MISSIONARY SCHOOLS.

NIGERIA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM HAS VASTLY EXPANDED WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS MORE SCHOOLS THAN YOUR 1960 CONDITION OF 95% ILLITERACY RATE COMPARED TO 25% TODAY.

AND WITH IT, BETTER AND MORE MODERN LAB FACILITIES, INCLUDING DIGITAL RESOURCES NOW WIDELY AVAILABLE IN SCHOOLS.

Non of them, if alive, should be less than 80 presently.
That's a 1960 pix. 65 years ago.
Each of those boys there can't be less than 15 years old. Add 15 to 65, that will give 80.

Has anyone spotted him?
You can't miss him out (that's if he was in there), the froggy eyes give him away forthwith.

As a book publisher, I do business with schools nationwide. I visit different schools in different states almost on daily basis. Believe me when I say most schools in Nigeria don't have standard laboratories. Some don't even have at all; (especially all these mushroom private schools). I'm a Nigerian, I'm not talking down my country, I'm only saying it as it is.

BTW, your insults is of no meaning to me. You can keep them coming.

Why do you label schools that you do business with as mushrooms? Anyway, your books too might not pass as standard. So you are still part of the educational problem selling books to schools and encouraging them to make parents buy regularly to keep your business flowing. Hope you heard of the new directive about single use Text books?
