Lagos has been thrown into mourning following the passing of the traditional ruler of the Badagry Kingdom, the Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi, who died at the age of 89 after a brief illness.

The demise of the monarch marks the end of a remarkable 48-year reign on the throne, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in Lagos State.

According to the palace, the Akran was pronounced dead by medical experts, and traditional rites for his burial have gradually commenced.

Residents of Badagry, who are currently mourning the loss of their revered monarch, described his death as a heavy blow, noting that the town has lost not just a king but a father figure whose wisdom, counsel and presence brought reassurance in moments of uncertainty.

As of press time, the Lagos State Government was yet to issue an official statement on the development.

Truly a peaceful man. I visited his palace once on official duty. We were warmly received even though he had a right to be angry for some reasons.

More like Egun, I think they have their own language most Yorubas may not even understand, but most of them understand Yoruba and also speak their Egun dialect..

One of the longest serving monarch in Nigeria……his reign brought peace and progress to the good people of badagry. Visiting badagry my paternal grandmother home town, i am always impress with the level of development badagry have experienced and I hope and pray the next Oba will follow in his footsteps……may his soul continue to rest in peace.

thats not a Yoruba name….badagry people are predominantly Egun people a sub group of the Yoruba tribe and they also have the Aworis who are also indigenous to badagry but not as much in population as the egun people.
