Oduduwa had one son, Okanbi, whose seven children (Oduduwa's grandchildren) founded major Yoruba kingdoms, often referred to as the "seven sons" in lineage: Olowu (Owu), Orangun (Ila), Alaketu (Ketu), Onisabe (Sabe), Olupopo (Popo), the lineage of Alaafin (Oyo, via Oranmiyan), and the Benin royalty (also via Oranmiyan).
The Seven Children of Okanbi (Oduduwa's Grandchildren):
Olowu: Founder of the Owu kingdom.
Orangun: Founder of the Ila kingdom.
Alaketu: Founder of the Ketu kingdom.
Onisabe: Founder of the Sabe kingdom (in present-day Benin Republic).
Olupopo: Founder of the Popo kingdom (also known as Popo-Agbara).
Alaafin (Oranmiyan's line): Okanbi's youngest son, Oranmiyan, established the powerful Oyo Empire, linking to the Alaafin title.
Oba of Benin (Oranmiyan's line): Oranmiyan's lineage also led to the Benin monarchy, starting with his son Eweka.

Mo need for unnecessary struggle for supremacy.

Where did you see local champions? Ladoja was a senator and a governor. He has international conglomerate business. He is not Alafin mate in all ramifications.

Though, it's not all Alafin fault, if not Seyi Makinde and his god that make bast@rd Alafin of Oyo

I am Igbo so I won't claim to be an expert in Yoruba history. But from the little history I know should the alaffin of oyo not be the highest stool in Yoruba land? I know of the great oyo empire that stretched far and wide. I have never heard of ife empire or Ibadan empire. I believe that Ibadan was under the control of the alaffin so olubadan naturally should be a subject of the alaffin. If this was the 16th century the olubadan would be beheaded for this disrespect. The alaffin was a god king like Xerxes of persia
You must be mad for this nonsense. Ibadan has never for once been under Alaafin of oyo. In fact Alaafin used to beg Ibadan to war in those days

It serves him right , Alaafin has been revelling in unwarranted superiority context in this modern civilization where the roles of Obas are nowhere to be found in the constitution.
Olubadan is far below Alaafin in the traditional context but political and geographical influences have turned the tide so Alaafin better stop those lopsided historical tirade
Olubadan is not below Alaafin in traditional context

Some of you just type whatever you like and you are only giving publicity to your ignorance Oduduwa, the Yoruba deity, had just *one biological son* named Okanbi (also called Omonide). Okanbi fathered *seven children*, considered Oduduwa's grandchildren, who founded various kingdoms:
- *Olowu of Owu*
- *Onisbe of Sabe*
- *Onipopo of Popo*
- *Oba of Benin*
- *Orangun of Ila*
- *Alaketu of Ketu*
- *Alafin of Oyo
Where is Oni there
So Oni is from where?

Forget about being a monarch or not.
Ladoja is old enough to father Hakeem.
Elder should be the first to stretch hand towards the younger one for a handshake, not otherwise

There is no single son of Okanbi called ''Alaafin''.
Stop typing rubbish if you dont know the history of Oduduwa and Okanbi.

Okanbi also gave birth to Oranmiyan (one of his children) who later founded Benin Kingdom, and from there he went to establish Oyo kindgom and became ''Alaafin'' of Oyo.
The same Oranmiyan abandoned his throne in Oyo and returned to rule Ile-Ife as the 6th Ooni of Ife. He died and was buried in Ile-Ife.
This singular act of Oranmiyan shows that the Ooni of Ife and Oba of Benin are both superior to the Alaafin of Oyo.
Oranmiyan also gave birth to sons who later became Ooni of Ife.
If you say Oni of Ife is superior I understand and because of Oduduwa but I don't see how Oba of Benin is superior to Alaafin

No big deal here now. Normally, no king in Yoruba land should be shaking hands. Handshaking is not of our culture.

lol your post is a rage bait but I’ll oblige you a bit.

Ife is the source of the Yorubas, and Ooni’s throne in Ife is the same throne Oduduwa, the progenitor once sat. Ooni is both a king and a priest (the custodian of all Yoruba gods)… He’s the Arole Oduduwa.

The Oba of Benin kingdom (the throne) was founded by Oranmitan for many years before he left Benin to go and establish Oyo kingdom.
That is where the seniority comes from.
Oyo kingdom became famous only because they fought wars and conquered territories

gesture from the Olubadan, because the Alaafin is too found of himself and very proud. The former Alaafin wasn't like this. He should try watch himself closely, and take things easy.

How come it’s only Oyo that has this version of the history while Ife who owns the event doesn’t have it?

This incident and various comments above on this subject has further corroborated my position THAT, the Yorubaland is NOT united.

To those of you clamouring for a Yoruba nation, you can now see the futility of your ambition. Isn't it when you have a United front you can push for your dream? Now if it is not Ooni and Alaafin, it will be Soun and Alaafin or Alaafin and Olubadan!
Sad, very sad.
Thankful,I haven't heard about Awujale and England monarchy exchanging words.
Tell me why will the Sultans and the Emirs not take our royal fathers for granted?
Even the youths that should be thinking about how to resolve these unending mess and busy taking sides. Long way, we have a long way to go.

It is very disrespectful for the Alaafin to sit down and stretch out his hand to shake the Olubadan while he (Olubadan) was on his feet.
In Yoruba culture, he should have found a way to greet the Olubadan behind closed doors, and not to stretch out his hands like that in public!
You know the Alafin relocated from abroad to be 👑. So his exposure to western culture may have influenced his behavior.

The Alaafin cannot talk if there is Oduduwa Republic because all other Obas know that Ooni is superior. During the regional system, Ooni Aderemi was the governor of western region and head of all Yoruba Obas.

When did he relocate?
Was he born there?
What was he doing in Canada?
Oba Ghandi Olaoye relocated from US (the center of western culture) to be 👑 also.

Only God knows what they sniffed in that Canada. Like Oluwo, like Alaafin

8Ebisco:
Reactions have continued to trail the action of the former Lagos State governor and All Progressives Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu, over his refusal to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal.

The spokesman for pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday while reacting to a viral video showing Tinubu sitting down while the Ooni stands to greet him, has berated Tinubu's actions.

He said although monarchs no longer hold political power, it was important for traditional institutions to be respected especially by the Yoruba people.

The activist recalled that in 2016, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is many years older than the monarch, bowed down to greet him.

Odumakin stated, “We are still Yoruba people. With due respect to our royal fathers, we should not say because we are in a modern age, we should not give the proper respect that we give to our oba.

“You saw the time former President Obasanjo prostrated before the Ooni.

“So, it is still our culture and we must sustain our culture and give the respect that is due to our monarchs.”

If he is overexposed to western culture, then why did he accept the traditional stool? Did you force him?

Why fight for, grab power and run with it if you are incapable of doing the job like Tinubu? Na by force huh
