PRESS RELEASE

AKWA IBOM ASSEMBLY DEBUNKS FABRICATED BILL CRIMINALIZING RELATIONSHIPS WITH MARRIED MEN

The attention of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has been drawn to a fabricated report circulating on social media, alleging that the House is set to pass a bill criminalizing sexual relationships with married men.

The report, attributed to a Facebook post by Obiavel Albert Abigo, claims the bill is sponsored by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and imposes a 10-year prison sentence on women found guilty of engaging in sexual relationship with married men, while men would face a ₦2 million fine.

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly wishes to categorically state that this report is entirely false and has no basis in fact. The Assembly has not received or considered any such bill, and the Deputy Governor has not sponsored it.

We condemn this malicious attempt to tarnish the image of the Deputy Governor and the Assembly, and urge the public to disregard this fake news and any associated commentaries.

The House remains committed to its constitutional role of law-making, and will not be swayed by mischievous attempts to undermine its integrity.

*Signed*

Hon. Jerry Anson Otu
Chairman, House Committee on Information

Very laughable fictitious bill

Bills like this can only pass in the north.

Can't see light of day in the south.

The North's penal code already criminalizes sexual relations with a married woman

Unserious people in government deliberating on married and unmarried women.

Meanwhile nearly all of them have one or two hotels in Uyo. They use it to sleep with young girls and their colleagues wives... Exchanging their wives in a rotational manner every weekdays and weekends. You see reason why they are quick to debunk the rumor? They can't ban it. grin grin grin grin

Re: No bill criminalising sexual relationship with married men - Akwa Ibom Assembly by anionjasa(m): 10:13pm On Jan 12
Why? It would have given the deputy governor a good name if he had sponsored it.
You don't carry your promiscuity to people's wives.
Anyway, traditionally, you are wrong to advance your sexual prowess with married woman

There is no smoke without fire. That bill was really presented to the house but because of people outcry they withdrew it. Believe Nigerian politicians at your own peril.

Motion pushers for that bill would strongly have Godswill Akpabio to contend with. He would never support such bill. You know what I mean.
