Veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has reacted publicly after a controversial Islamic cleric, Al-Waraqi Olopameta, sparked nationwide outrage by predicting the singer’s death.

The controversy began after a video circulated online showing Olopameta claiming that Osupa would die on January 10, 2026, which he described as a divine revelation allegedly received from God. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In the now-viral video, the cleric insisted that the singer’s death had been revealed to him spiritually. He swore by the Qur’an and his own life to support the claim, stating that he was a fan of Saheed Osupa.

Olopameta further alleged that the Fuji star could only avert the predicted death by performing a ritual sacrifice. According to him, Osupa was instructed to slaughter a white ram, attach his name to it, and present it as a sacrifice to escape the foretold fate.

The claim immediately triggered outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the statement as reckless, dangerous, and irresponsible.

The controversy intensified after an audio recording surfaced involving respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Ishola Olanrewaju Alfulany, who openly challenged Olopameta’s claims.

In the recording, Alfulany warned that the cleric could face arrest and possible imprisonment, accusing him of misrepresenting Islam and spreading false teachings under the guise of prophecy.

Following sustained criticism, Olopameta later admitted that the prophecy was not a divine revelation. He claimed that the statement was merely a tactic to get Saheed Osupa’s attention.

Rather than calming public outrage, the admission further fueled anger, with many Nigerians demanding accountability for what they described as deliberate fear-mongering.

In another video that later surfaced online, Olopameta was seen begging for forgiveness, claiming that he was hiding in a forest and sleeping on a banana tree out of fear for his safety.

Reacting for the first time, Saheed Osupa strongly condemned the cleric’s actions and warned him to stop calling death upon him and other entertainers.

The Fuji star described Olopameta as a fake cleric, completely distancing himself from the prophecy. He insisted that he would not die as predicted and cautioned against reckless spiritual pronouncements.

Osupa further stated that such claims should not be tolerated, adding that the cleric would not live to see the fulfillment of the prophecy he falsely declared.

The incident has continued to spark debate nationwide, with many Nigerians calling for stricter regulations and legal action against individuals who spread fear through false religious declarations.

That said, there's nothing like seeing the future in Islam. That is only for prophets and there is no prophet after prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) so this olopameta is only a dajjal (wicked liar) and must be completely disregarded.

In fact, wbat he did (claiming knowledge of the unseen) is an act of apostasy in Islam.

Unfortunately, alfa in yoruba land and many african cultures is almost synonymous to babalawo.
