KPMG, NRS Meet After Debate Over New Tax Laws by luvola(op): 10:47am On Jan 13
KPMG executives and Zaach Adedeji, chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), held a meeting on Monday following the disagreement over the new tax laws.

In a statement on Monday, the NRS said Adedeji hosted a courtesy visit from the delegation of the tax advisory firm.

NRS said the KPMG executives commended the chairman for his leadership and the timely implementation of the new tax laws, noting that “their initial apprehensions have been significantly allayed”.

“They affirmed that the reforms are both necessary and timely, and pledged continued professional engagement in support of effective tax administration and national economic growth,” the statement reads.

According to sources at the NRS, the firm’s executives came to seek clarity on specific provisions of the laws.

“A delegation of top executives from KPMG paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch A. Adedeji PhD,” a source said.

“During the visit, the KPMG team clarified that their earlier opinion on the new tax laws “had been misconstrued and expressed regret over the misunderstanding.

“They sought further clarity on the provisions of the laws and highlighted areas where recommendations could be made.”

All those firms with all their packaging. All they have is name, after that na empty vessel. They use their name to bully thinking people are stupid if they don’t have their brand. A competent accountant is a competent accountant. Brand or no brand.

Let the meeting be made public so we can know who is saying the truth

I think KPMG initial assertion wasn’t presented in the best way though

But regardless, we await the implementation and how it affects the common man

It is rather damage control by the NRS and FG team.
It is totally unprofessional for firms like the Big 4 (KPMG, Deloitte, EY, PWC), not to be carried along for their professional input and advice on a major tax reform. The NRS probably knows KPMG was right in many of their concerns, hence the meeting to cool them down and control the damage. Imagine if Deloitte and EY should also issue their own criticisms of the new tax laws

Tinubu wants the tax laws for fighting and crippling political opponents. They want lots of funds at their disposal undecided

Nowhere in the world will this happen. The big 4 are not government consultants so there's no grounds in inviting them when creating new tax laws. If they did, they'll just try to make the tax laws favourable to them. You forget that these companies are profit oriented.
They are free to state criticism and ask for clarification though but it should be professional as well.

ll.
How do you know they are not? Have you checked or asked VDM to check who drafted the tax laws, who created the NRS website, who is collecting percentage from all the tax to be paid etc etc?

The NRS was right. They are the ones who were mistaken and jumped to conclusions. I have worked with their products and I am not impressed. All they are is paper pusher with software and fancy template.

There is no requirement to carry along any of the so called. Big 4
There is nothing unprofessional about not carrying along so called big 4
So called big 4 are businesses not moral authority

It is more important to carry along voters and those who will actually pay the tax

These big 4 do not necessarily even agree with each other or have the same opinion so carrying them along is meaningless

Did we carry them along before Dangote built his refinery or The Lekki Sea Port investors came to Nigeria

With respect to the concerns have you read them?

Name the one that you think is the weightiest . Just one

And why you think that one is so important

That is the challenge to you

Relax folks

KPMG should have conveyed their concerns in private and consulted offline.
