izzou:supernumerary Policemen otherwise known as SPY police are just private individuals trained by the supernumerary police unit for specific security roles and protection of high ranking officials and or organizations. Their job is to Complement the services of regular police officers Their uniform is slightly different from the regular police officers. It is the supernumerary police unit that trains SPY police and in charge of posting them to ministries, departments, multinationals, banks and other private organizations |

izzou:Supernumerary simply means "outside the numbers" ie not on duty For example in a Factory setting, if it takes 10 people to make 1000 products and you had 15 people that day, they will ask why you are not being efficient. If the extra 5 people were not producing output but were there for mandatory Health and Safety training, then those 5 people are Supernumerary - ie your efficiency stats should be normalised to exclude the 5 supernumerary workers that day |

In January 2024 when I wrote that “Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo will NEVER be able to revolutionise Nigeria’s messily-corrupt passport application system”, some accused me of prophesying doom. But it is now six months since I paid and applied for the renewal of my international passport. Maybe I will get it tomorrow. On Thursday July 31, 2025, I paid a sum of N109,700 via the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) payment portal, then proceeded to one of their Lagos offices, to complete further documentation and capture. Meanwhile, the officers first mocked us for kick-starting the registration online. I couldn’t complete capturing on that day due to a “network problem” that lasted several hours; I was forced to return to their office the following day for that. As I write this, “passport pending production” is the long-running feedback from NIS. The irony is that Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo continues to be lauded by the unsuspecting public as one of the best — even the best — ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet. It is already almost five months since Tunji-Ojo announced, in the latest of his many mouthwatering passport efficacy promises, that Nigerians would be able to receive their int’l passports one week after application. My opinion of him remains unchanged; he is simply the typical Nigerian politician who has a mastery of gallery play and public sentiment manipulation via the media for personal branding. Woe unto you if you rely on media reports to gauge the performance of public officers or, more importantly, the efficiency of public institutions! Fisayo Soyombo |

For those who didn’t know, BP was the British-Persian company, before it became The British Petroleum Company. 🇮🇷 ⛽ 1908: British discover oil in Iran; create Anglo-Persian Oil Co. (later Anglo-Iranian). 👑 1941: UK & USSR force Reza Shah to abdicate → his son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, becomes Shah. 🗳️ 1951: Democratically elected PM Mossadegh nationalizes oil, keeping the money in house and ends British control. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 1953: UK & US stage a coup (Operation Ajax) → Mossadegh overthrown, Shah restored. 💰 1954: Anglo-Iranian becomes BP; Western firms regain access. Western democracy for you. Salah al-Iranee |

Ibime:Which is why the complaints of police for VIP and the so called withdrawal of police from VIPs are always BS - because the police attached to VIPs are supernumerary [also called SPY] police - not required for actual police work back in the day i saw our CEO turn his driver to a SPY police anyway back to izzou and the supermammary glands |

PRESS RELEASE CP EDO ORDERS REORGANISATION OF EKPOMA DIVISION; OPERATIVES UNCOVER SELF-KIDNAP, BUSH COMBING YIELDS ARREST OF 11 SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVERY OF FIREARMS The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that as part of ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has ordered the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division, and approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect. Following a report of a suspected kidnapping along Old INEC Road, Ekpoma, received at about noon on 12th January, 2026, the new DPO immediately swung into action and deployed operational resources to track the caller. Technical intelligence and field investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, which later revealed a case of self-kidnapping. The suspect, one Obehi Odine ‘F’, aged 18, was arrested for staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000). She has confessed to the crime, admitting that the incident was deliberately fabricated to extort money. In a related operation in Ubiaja, the Command recorded another major operational success as Bush combing strategy yielded success. The Divisional Police Officer, Ubiaja personally led a coordinated bush-combing operation around Akwocha Camp and adjoining forest corridors, in collaboration with the Nigerian Military and the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC). A concealed forest enclave identified by the drone squadron through intelligence generated from air surveillance as a suspected kidnapping and logistics base, was stormed. This resulted in the arrest of eleven (11) male suspects believed to be members of an organized kidnapping syndicate. Exhibits recovered include twenty-four (24) Dane guns, seventeen (17) cutlasses, three (3) battle axes, gun powder, torchlights, mobile phones, solar panels, assorted charms, one Daylong motorcycle, and the sum of ₦209,700.00 cash, among other exhibits. The Commissioner of Police, strongly warns members of the public against engaging in false kidnapping reports and other deceptive acts, noting that such actions waste critical security resources, divert attention from genuine emergencies, create unnecessary panic, and undermine public confidence, hence anyone caught will be prosecuted accordingly. He further reiterates the Command’s resolve to sustain technology-driven policing, aggressive forest domination, and intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks across the state. |

GloriousGbola:This is not true at all. The regular policemen, MOPOL and SPU are majorly the ones attached to VIPS. It's mostly banks, some companies and few private individuals that use SPY police as drivers/orderlies. The real VIPS use regular policemen, that's why u see them lamenting since the order came out. |

BlueRayDick:yes you are right - i was mixing VIPs in general with private VIPs i also think it is part of Tinubu's plan - create an industry of armed private security contractors. just as Halogen ushered in the age private security - removal of VIPs can usher in armed security escort business. |

PDPGuy:The Ministry being discussed had a challenge (speed of passport personalisation) and went about it by focusing on another issue that didn't contribute to the problem for the most part. I did some consulting work on this project and had alternative Swiss partners for the Ministry that would have solved at least part of the problem. The ministry wanted to start local production of blank passport booklets in Nigeria (which they have now implemented) and which I reported to them is only economical (for the CAPEX spend) with annual production of 20m booklets. Nigeria had annual demand of 2m passports per year as of 2022 so why implement a 20m printing capacity which is wasteful and has poor ROI. Nigeria was better off purchasing 2-3m blank passports per year at $3-$7 dollars per passport depending on spec rather than a large investment in the printing capability and focus on partnering with a vendor that could ensure no biometric bottlenecks (that could still be IRIS from Malaysia who owned the contract if they fix up, or alternative partners). Also ensuring proper logistics so that booklets get to all the centres and ensuring all centres delivered to KPIs that would reduce the effect of corruption and understaffing on personalisation bottlenecks. But the focus was on the printing of blank passports in Nigeria though it was not economical and it was not the problem. You can draw your own conclusion as to why large capital investments are preferable than focussing on the Koko of the matter. There are also infinite chopping avenues in recurrent expenditure with local production (supply of paper, ink, generator fuel etc). Well hopefully these other bottlenecks that prevent quick personalisation are fixed, not just making noise that we now print our blank passports locally which was never the main problem. There is a reason most countries print their blank passports with few vendors around the world - because they don't have the demand to justify setting up their own printing. |

Ibime:And Nigeria's paper industry for all intents and purposes has collapsed. You can see it in the persistently rising prices of exercise books and... toilet paper. All packaged Printing paper is imported. So more cost. Ibime's consulting services for diff govt officials has given him a clear inside track to what is going on. Better leave your c-suite, strap on a machete and enter rivers politics and make some real money. Network is down is standard for all Nigerian agencies . Website is always broken and you best settle somone with direct access to the the database or you will spend the next 6 months wasting time. |

GloriousGbola:Hmmmmm It's possible that these local producers just import the raw materials and repackage here... Mheen... Producing in Nigeria isn't easy. The challenges are enormous. Many people just prefer to take the easier route which is importation. |
