Kristy Hallowell had just lost her job when her energy bill unexpectedly tripled to $1,800 a month.

But the gas is still off and electricity bills keep mounting this winter, leaving her in fear of another shut-off. She said she now had about $3,000 in utility debt.

The 44-year-old is one of millions of Americans who have fallen behind on their energy bills as prices have soared over the past year.

This is what you get when you vote for a tangerine 🍊 in human form. I hope America get it right someday..

Enter TikTok, nah so so lamentations… I was shocked when a USA guy made a video of how they averagely pay $9,000 for ambulance. The comments on that video was shocking… I was like, shey nah Amelica be this?
$9k is nothing, pray not to find yourself in emergency units for one reason or another. You will see serious billings. Without insurance people do go bankrupt. Healthcare is world class but very expensive in america.

What is the lunatic that 200 million Nigerians allowed to grab power and run with it, doing instead of crashing petrol price and dollar rate as he vowed to do huh

Should we be focusing on this, or should we continue doing ṣọbọlation into what is happening in America?
You are uninformed.
Petrol and dollar rates are crashing.

Petrol is less than 750 from over 1000 in 2024
Dollar less than 1450 from 1800.

No regret voting Jagaban

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

If Tinubu’s expired Buhari failed to make the dollar less than N200 in his eight years, does it mean that APC is truly All Promises Cancelled huh

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.

NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

Another one....let me rub it in....I post with my real name because I got nothing to hide.....I brought ALL my siblings and my parents to the USA. We're all here now and we're ALL citizens of the United States same as Tinubu's children.

While other people were doing "ohhhh, Igbo tradition says we can't forsake our homeland".... I was busy filing papers and it's paid off big time. My mother's social security retirement pay is equivalent of MILLIONS of naira per month.

Sapa has no place in my family and thanks to Trump stealing on our behalf, the USA economy is looking better every month.

Good Luck to Nigerians.

I am on band A, about 23 hours of lights a day, blasting 5 AC non-stop in Lagos Nigeria and the monthly bill is about $55. I have zero credit card, line of credit or loans. You couldn't pay me enough to live in those western countries again.
I live in Southern California and my LADWP power bill is every two months. My average bill from 2019 till now is about $81.13 ( which is $40.57 monthly). You can't compare Nigeria to America because the US is just too big. California is about half the size of Nigeria (46% to be precise), so the power bill will vary from one area to the other. This lady's bill is just an outlier and it baffles me how she is paying $1800 per month.

Thanks, I'm actually a 4th Class Citizen of the USA, I've continually stated that on Nairaland. I also wash dead bodies for a living and I work at night to hide from ICE. Life is hard, bro!

But as a 2nd Class Nigerian Citizen I can't risk getting killed for trying to vote in Lagos or have my house there pushed down because I'm Igbo.

Yes we take the crude oil and also their gold. And we can do the same to Nigeria anytime.

And nobody can do anything about it. You may want to check out HOW the USA captured Maduro, the Venezuelan soldiers involved are giving interviews.

Trump has the world by the throat, they can't even cough grin

Good Luck to Nigerians.

Good Morning Ma,
I am based in Kaduna. We were also told that the units remaining on the old meter would be transferred to the new meter, but up till now that has not happened. Recently, when I tried to vend a token, I was informed that there is a debt of 25 million, which I have no idea how it came about. I’m using a prepaid meter, so I don’t understand how such a huge debt could be accumulated.
ok thanks

It’s easy to assume life is automatically better abroad, but situations like this show that cost pressures exist everywhere, just in different forms

If one works hard and earns the right type of qualifications, and keeps on getting qualifications in their area of job, life can be good.

Can, is conditional though

Is that how they are doing in our japa destinations to attract us there?

You live in a single room? I respectfully call BS. I paid more than $350 monthly electricity bill for more than 5 years, with the amount going to about $500 in the winter months. This excludes the gas bill, and most live to pay bills in Western countries. It's a pre-authorized debit that gets yanked from your account every month. You still get to pay even when you are dead.

No, I live in Playa Del Rey in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom, and I have a roommate. Fall and Winter bills, of course, are usually the highest. I have uploaded, so you can see for yourself.
