President Bola Tinubu says sustained military operations against terrorist and criminal networks are producing measurable security gains across the country.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day gala and award night, Tinubu commended the armed forces and other security agencies for improved safety in several communities.

Tinubu, represented by Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, noted that areas that were previously gripped by fear are now experiencing relative calm due to consistent operational pressure and improved coordination among security agencies.

He added that enhanced collaboration with regional and international partners has also contributed to restoring public confidence and stabilising affected communities.

Tinubu said the sacrifices of fallen and serving military personnel remain the foundation of Nigeria’s peace, unity and democracy.

The president noted that remembrance of fallen heroes must go beyond ceremonial activities.

“Remembrance is a lasting national duty owed to those who laid down their lives in defence of the nation,” he said.

He acknowledged the role of military families in national defence, thanking spouses, children and relatives of service personnel for their resilience and support.

He also announced two public engagement initiatives, including the ‘Thank-a-soldier electronic wall’, a digital platform for citizens to post appreciation messages, and the ‘My Nigerian hero campaign’, a year-long social media initiative to honour serving and retired personnel.

Tinubu reiterated that security remains the top priority of his administration, pledging continued investment in equipment, training and improved welfare for troops, while urging them to remain disciplined, united and loyal to the constitution.

Christopher Musa, minister of defence, said the courage and sacrifices of military personnel are central to Nigeria’s freedom and sovereignty, noting that the awards presented at the gala reflect stories of bravery and quiet sacrifice.

The event featured awards for serving and retired officers, including Waidi Shaibu, chief of army staff; Tukur Buratai, former army chief; and Sani Usman, former army spokesperson.

But key mentioned terrorism financiers in the govt are protected just the same way the EFCC is protecting Yahaya Bello?

Can you imagine the EFCC saying Yahaya Bello is innocent until proven guilty but young boys during their sting operations are automatically guilty and sentenced to public disgrace, handcuffs, stolen from, ransacked and meant to pay bribes even before taken?

Anywhere they put a RCCG pastor as the leader of an org, it's always heavy corruption!

The real fraudulent organisation is the one claiming to fight fraud!

Terrorists still being released is an anomaly and show we are not serious in this fight against terrorists jihadists kidnappers. 70 terrorists were released in Katsina just days ago.

This government is not serious... terrorists can not be killing Nigerians and soldiers/police yet you stay silent when governors release terrorists, it beats common sense.

Anytime I remember the quote, I feel like majority of Nigerians need psychological evaluation to understand how they reason.
Because most of them still believe this .

Are you sure that no sponsor has been caught? Are you expecting their names in the newspapers? Do you know the current state of their businesses or the status of their bank accounts. If an account is frozen, is it pasted on social media? Clandestine ops may never be known. When you see an uptick in robbery can you trace it to the reduction in direct funding?

Leave this to the experts. They are on the job. You may have reason to doubt Nigeria but do not doubt our silent service.

Sustained, while the residents of Sokoto State are obeying the Clarion call to evacuate their communities within 24hrs.

The government is still joking with lives and properties of its citizens no doubt. Just like the electricity issue in Nigeria, the insurgency cannot be fixed. It's all rocket science for those that swore to protect lives and properties of Nigerians.

No doubt an average Nigerian is a coward.

Nigerian laws are designed to ridicule the weak and protect the strong. Interestingly, Tinubu is not even interested in fighting corruption because we all know what he stands for.

He should just do whatever he thinks he can and get out for a more competent and disciplined person to organise this country.

The president yet again, misses the Armed Forces Remebrance day after previously missing successive NDA passing out parades. Is the Dubai trip more important than honouring our fallen heroes? 15 days into a new year and counting and a president hasn't stepped foot into a country he is supposed to be governing.

So it took this long to appreciate the benefit of improved coordination between branches of the millitary!?

I've never understood how Army bases will be under attack for 5 hours and we will not get air support in that time. 5 hours that I will use to fly from Lagos to Paris!!! Makes no sense.

We honestly have not been prosecuting this war on terror like we ought to.

If we are serious, we should be killing like 100 of these terorists a day.

Maybe improved intelligence sharing by USA and Isreal, using advanced technology may have something to do with it sha.
