The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has described the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, as a political betrayal.

DAILY POST reports that the governor on Monday joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, despite warnings from his estranged political godfather, Kwankwaso.

The governor’s decision to quit the NNPP for the APC has triggered a serious political crisis in Kano State.

Some cabinet members of Yusuf’s administration who are loyal to Kwankwaso are reportedly preparing to resign in the coming days.

Addressing his supporters in a viral video on Wednesday, Kwankwaso lamented that the mandate handed over to the APC was hard-fought by his support organisation, known as the Kwankwasiyya movement.

According to him, handing over the mandate to his perceived political enemy, former National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, was a sin against the people of the state.

He said, “Handing over Kwankwasiyya’s hard-fought mandate to Ganduje and the APC is nothing short of political betrayal and a grave sin against the people.”

He is an agent of destabilization because his ego is too big for his actual size

Apc will have only one leader in kano between him and ganduje and i don't see how tinubbu will throw ganduje under the bus for him

I am not talking about presidential primaries. I am talking about primary elections across the states with new defectors. Tinubu is already striking deals that benefits only himself while asking too many prominent politicians to shelve their own ambitions in order to accomodate newcomers. Interestingly, he left Osun state alone and rejected Adeleke's defection because his cousin, Oyetola assured him that APC can reclaim Osun state. Why didn't he consider this for other states with already strong APC presence like Kano (Ganduje and Barau), Delta (Omo-Agege), Plateau, etc?

Not surprised. He brought the Lagos mentality to national governance. That's why his cabinet is filled up with only his boys from Lagos. For your information, "Baba sopé" politics can never work across all states of the federation.

Can someone please explain the reason behind all this defections by the governors.

Is there something they are promising them if they defect or are they defecting under duress or under gunpoint

Can kwakwaso and Atiku co-exist in ADC? Both have the same ambition. You think kwakwaso would want Atiku to win? Tinubu knows what he's doing. Kwakwaso would have no choice than to come to Tinubu bcoz Kano State government is his ATM card and where would he get money to float another party or run for presidency?

Kwakwaso is coming to APC, it's just that the Gov wanted to defect on his own before kwakwaso.

Bayero has upper hand now because Abba will leave Sanusi to Kwankwaso; Bayero surely has higher support among Kanawa. However, nobody really understands Kano politics. They may divide the Emirate again to accommodate the cousins.

Doesn't look so. There were no primaries in Ekiti and Osun state so far. Other aspirants were disqualified for the president's choice. That will be a recipe for disaster.
