Like I said before now NOLLYWOOD is the most wicked industry on earth.

genuinely dislike the Nigerian entertainment industry with every fiber of my being.

There is little to no love in that space—only clout and cold calculations. Take Funke Akindele for example. This is someone whose movies have publicly recorded box-office earnings running into hundreds of millions of naira in a single year. That is not speculation; Nigerian box-office data and cinema records confirm it.

Now tell me: if someone who makes ₦500 million+ from just one movie cannot spare ₦20 million to support a colleague in distress—even if they are not on speaking terms—what does that say about us as an industry?

₦20 million is less than 5% of ₦500 million. In any serious society, that kind of gesture would be seen as basic humanity, not charity. It would send a powerful message that human life matters more than ego, beef, or brand image.

But here, success is celebrated loudly, while compassion is rationed carefully. That is the verifiable truth, and that is why many of us are tired of pretending this industry is built on love.
I dislike when people give analysis like this. It's what is called entitlement.
When God blesses you and you are rich In this part of the world, if you don't use your head. People will use it for you. You'd be amazed at the number of family members looking up to her for feeding, medicals, school fees etc and the fact that she is not loud about her giving does not mean that she doesnt give or support others

You are a very wicked, entitled and dangerous person. See how you calculated Funke Akindeles earning and how she should gift 5% to an industry mate in distress. It's the audacity for me. I am not even going to school you on the cost in achieving that earning and the likes. What rubbish? You could have told her to put your account details so you can help her spend the earnings as na you wise pass. No one owes anyone any dime, her money her perogative to do as she pleases.

A complete African, you are.
Waking up everyday to believe that:
- others are responsible for the consequences of your bad decisions.
- others should take responsibility for your decisions
- others should not enjoy because you aren’t.
- others should always acknowledge that you are entitled to the rewards of their good decisions.

Thou art an average African.

grin grin

And I’m sure you have never cut 5% of your salary to others as well.

I have given my entire salary to people I was meeting for the very first time. God bears me witness.
From your reasoning, it seems you have never been in a truly hopeless situation—one where your only hope is God. I pray you never find yourself there. But if you ever do, and you realize that your colleagues have abandoned you to your fate, then you will truly understand what it means to help one another.
A stranger on Nairaland—someone I have never met in my life—once helped me. That is humanity, not charity.

We are talking about N1m here not N100m.
And you think 1m was paid to just any actor when he started ? Go to movie set and find out how much people earn for minor roles even in 2026.

In the early and mid 2000s one of the hotels actors and actresses go for their gatherings in Surulere was managed by a close friend of mine, so I had the opportunity to spend time with many of the upcoming actors.

I agree with you 100% — she owes no one anything. No argument there.
But let’s be honest: this is not a random stranger we are talking about; this is a colleague.

Imagine five people selling the same product side by side — say gadget or phone stores on the same line. Suddenly, one colleague’s shop is burned to the ground. You, in particular, are doing well. Won’t your conscience prick you? Won’t you feel a sense of responsibility to help, even if it’s small, so that your colleague can at least start again from scratch?

Search your heart, my brother. No matter how you choose to see life, helping a colleague in distress is an obligation, not charity.

The Bible is clear on this:

> “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2

It also says:

> “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?”
— 1 John 3:17

The Qur’an is equally explicit:

> “And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.”
— Qur’an 5:2

And again:

“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress in this world, Allah will relieve his distress on the Day of Resurrection.”
— Sahih Muslim 2699

These are not suggestions; they are reminders. Humanity comes before comfort. Brotherhood comes before excuses. Helping a colleague in hardship is not weakness — it is faith in action.

Let these verses stand as a reminder to us all.

Abeg make una dey lie small small.

Even make up artists are earning reasonable not to talk about an actor
He meant bulk sum per role..... it's possible he's saying the truth...he may act 5 movies in a year and earned 400-500k/movie.

There's a possibility that It took him 7yrs to have the boldness to even charge such an amount per movie.

I always saw him not to be Igbo but his name made me feel he is Igbo, but he might still be Igbo from the Igbanke side of Edo state...

I will search for his biography

So I did the search on him and he is from Oredo local government which does not cover the Igbanke people either, however I noticed something in his full name Okolocha Eso Dike, Okolocha also looks like an Igbo name, the only name that doesn't look Igbo there is Eso, though I know the whole names there could mean entire different things from the Igbo version.

But personally I just feel something doesn't really add up, I might be wrong though but that's just how I feel, I'm not saying he is Igbo but the names....
